My dd has always been a great sleeper (unlike her big sister) and has always needed a lot of sleep (naps and nighttime).

Until recently she was sleeping 6.45pm-7.30am, sometimes later and taking a 2-2.5 hr nap. For a few weeks now she has started waking for the day at 6am. She still naps for 2hrs and really needs it. She wakes at 6 no matter what time she goes to bed as there's been a couple of nights recently where I havent been able to get her to bed until 7.30/8 and she's still up at 6am.

I know that's still quite a lot of sleep but she just seems so tired all morning. She yawns, rubs her eyes, has less co ordination as the morning goes on. A few times she has even asked to go to bed at about 9.30/10am! I ve kept her nap at 12noon after an early lunch( as don't want to reinforce early waking with an early nap). But now we're just stuck in this same cycle where she wakes early but just seems tired and not ready to start the day.

My older dd went through a long phase of waking early at around this age but tbh she was just a dreadful sleeper all round so I don't know if this is just a similar phase.

Has anyone had similar at a similar age? Is it just a phase to ride out?

And just to add she has blackout blinds and there's no noise trigger I.e heating clicking on/anyone moving around at 6am to disturb her.

Ds is 21 months and generally loves his sleep unlike his bigger sis too!!
How ever last 2/3 months I have had to cut his nap to one hour. He was napping 2-2.5 hrs but starting waking early and sometimes in the night. He will now sleep 7-7 generally. Horrible waking him from his nap but got to be done!

Thanks feelery. Did it take a while to overcome the early waking? The odd time she's had a later night like 7.30 she Still wakes early.

The later nights never really work for us tbh. On holiday mine sometimes went to bed gone 9pm and made no difference to wake up time. Seems to be the reduction in nap that helped. Not sure why?!
Worked within a few days maybe? He goes to nursery one day a week and he naps for 2 hours there as I thought maybe it would be a very busy day for him but without fail the next morning he wakes early or wakes in the night so I will be asking nursery to cut his nap too!
