biting at school

My 4.5 year old has started reception and has bitten other children 3 times recently, i talk to him every morning before school and he is sure that he won't do it. The school has sent him home a few times because of the biting and i'm just living in dread every day waiting for the phone to call. He is good at sitting and listening during teacher led sessions during carpet time etc but gets into trouble when its free time or in the playground. I don't know what to do, i feel like keeping him home.

I'm following this because I have the same problem. Have you identified any triggers to his biting? Have you any idea why he might be biting rather than hitting or shouting?
