should a 6mo be rolling over by now?

My 6mo plays happily on his play mat kicking his legs about cooing away. He rolls on to his side but doesn't go over to his front. He has rolled over once onto his stomach about over a month ago and has never done it since. When on his tummy he doesn't try to roll back onto his back. My older ds was rolling over at 4mo. Is this normal?

There's such a wide range of normal. My DD didn't roll until the day she first crawled (at 7 months). She then walked at 10 months. I just don't think she 'got' rolling!

The fact he has done it before would mean I wouldn't be too worried - he's clearly able to do it, perhaps he's just not that bothered!?

Is he is reaching other developmental milestones more or less on time?

I don't think it is time to worry yet (must admit, I am not a professional, just a mum). If you want to help him along, make sure he spends time on his tummy not just his back. In the USA, I think they call it "tummy time." There are stats showing that since we have put babies to sleep on their backs because of sids, they are rolling over and crawling later.

Please don't worry! My Dd learnt to roll at 11 months, crawled at 15months and is no where near ready to walk at 18 months. There is such a vast range of normal

Not sitting at 6 month is perfectly normal.

My DS did this - rolled once or twice then didn't do it again till he was about 1! Walked just before his first birthday - think he knew he could but wasn't bothered. Used to really worry me when other babies rolled around all over the shop!

Don't worry. Neither of mine ever really bothered with rolling until much later. They are both fine. I was talking to some other mums about this recently and a lot of them had non-rolly children too
