5 week old suddenly really unsettled

So dd2 is 5 weeks old. Up until recently she was so easy and settled. Would drink her bottle (4-5oz) and then just go back to sleep, or be awake but content.

The last few days she's started bringing back up parts of feeds during and after the feed. Whereas before apart from the odd dribble, she never brought any up.

Furthermore it seems like she hardly ever sleeps! I know she's tired and I stroke her head and talk to her or cuddle her, she closes her eyes and drops off and then 10 minutes later she's awake and crying again! She seems to stay awake now after a feed and be crying or sleep 10minute stints. Until its time for the next feed and then repeat!

I've currently got her in a sling as a last resort and she's now zonked. However this is not going to be any help come bedtime.

Any advice? Is this normal for this age? Should I phone GP?

hi sounds like it could be reflux. would definitely be worth speaking to your gp. I completely understand how you feel both ds have had reflux. Hope you can get sorted with something.

Cheers for the advice Smile
Just got back from the doctors. She said she thought it was colic and suggested infacol, and to see how she goes over the weekend. Hopefully there will be some improvement, and some much needed SLEEP!

I think it's reflux. Go to the dr to get some medicine and see if it makes a difference. Also life up the cot/Moses basket at one side so they're not laying flat x

We have had the same last week with my ds who is 5 weeks today. Not always sleepy beforehand, but was sick a lot last week - phoned 111 as was 1:30am last Tues a.m. Said to go to A & E - they said was gastroenteritis & gave us lots good advice to care for him. He has been much better since Sunday, but still a bit sick sometimes (normal baby sick after feeding now). I wouldn't worry too much, just consult GP for advice & take any meds needed, as we're not convinced ds didn't have colic instead of gastro ourselves. He is feeding & sleeping better since Sunday, so it should improve, we did feed little & often for few days tho - as doc suggested - 5 min slots, followed by 5/10 min burping, then 5 mins food, etc. We're combi feeding breast & bottle as I wasn't producing loads milk in beginning due to blood loss during delivery (I lost 1.5 litres due to placenta coming out in bits).

Doc also suggested raising head of Moses basket wiv pillow due to bouts of hiccups (said may be reflux related), as we were at A & E at 2 weeks too as ds had low temp - doc said keep him warmer with blanket / swaddling & don't have window open at night. Used pillow ever since & it has helped.
