My DD is just one. She has been babbling for the past few months but no words used in any correct context. She points, claps and occasionally can follow simple instructions. Should I be doing something to encourage speech?

She sounds pretty normal to me! Main things to do are to talk directly to her, turn the radio off in the car and chat, do singing face to face (my DD(2) loves row your boat) and lots of stories.

She sounds normal. Some just 1 year olds might have one or 2 words - not many - but perfectly normal not to have any. Pointing, babbling etc are all good! She is clearly engaged and communicating.

DS was in that position when he turned two. Three months later he suddenly came out with whole sentences, as if he'd spent the previous year working out what he was going to say. So at just gone one your DC is absolutely normal or even ahead of normal.

I think my DS1 may have said "da-da" for dog, once, at that age.
Seems normal.

Thanks everyone, I wasn't concerned until her one year check when the HV seemed insistent she should have at least 3 words. Mind she was also shocked that she wasn't walking alone too.
