Vomiting at bedtime

Hello all,

I've posted about this before, but still not really found an answer / resolution.

My DS is nearly 10 months and I've been slowly switching him from ebf to ff. he started having a bottle before bed instead of a bf about 2 months ago and ever since then, on and off, he has been vomiting after his bottle at bedtime. The weird thing is it only happens when I give him his bottle which could of course be coincidence but he also takes 2-3oz more when I give him the bottle so I'm wondering if he over feeds with me perhaps because he finds it more comforting / like bf?

Has anyone had experience of this at all? I'm wondering whether tweaking his bedtime routine so the bottle is earlier and there's more time for him to digest the milk before bed might help?

Or could this be an allergy?

I'm trying not to worry too much as after each vomit he's fine and goes to sleep no probs. but obviously it's not good for him to vomit up his milk and some of dinner on a regular basis. He never wants more milk aft vomiting but will usually take a small amount of water.

Can anyone help at all?

If it was an allergy, he wouldn't be able to take formula at all and would probably have hives, or wheezing. It's probably that he finds formula more difficult to digest, or that he drinks it too quickly. Give him less maybe? Stop in the middle of the bottle and give him a chance to burp? In which position does he drink - on your lap or lying down?

My son went through phases of this (he was breastfed). It would usually happen as I laid him down after a feed, only ever at bedtime. I never really got to the bottom of why it happened, but it stopped eventually. I just made sure I kept a towel near the bed to catch anything. Sorry. That's probably not very helpful..
