Child upset going to preschool

I'm desperate for some advice. My lo is 3. He has been going to preschool since January. As he became eligible for funding in September he has been going 3 days a week rather than the one afternoon a week he was going prior to September. When he first started at preschool he would get upset going but once there he was fine. For ages he was great going but in the past week he's been awful. He keeps saying he doesn't like school, last week he was so upset my oh had to go and pick him up early. I dropped him off this morning, he burst into tears when we walked into school. I've called to see how he is and I've been told he's cried loads, he's needing lots of one on one support.
I don't like to think that he's there all upset. We should both be enjoying the time he is at school but I'm spending the whole time on edge.
I've tried everything I can think of to try to get him to enjoy going to school again but nothing is working. Any advice or tips would be gratefully received. I'm already dreading tomorrow school run.

Have you asked them if there was something that sparked it off? Is he scared of anything in particular? A new person for example.

Personally, if it was me, if my dd wasn't enjoying preschool, then I wouldn't send her. And if I needed it for childcare I would try to find an alternative setting.

Pull him out. I would! Talk to the preschool as well and see what they've got to say.

I've spoken to preschool and nothing has happened to make him Behave like this. Thanks for your answers but I'm not sure pulling him out is the answer considering he had been happy there before and in less than a year he will be starting school. He needs to learn to become less reliant on his key worker. If he decides he hates school in September I can't pull him out of school and find somewhere else very easily.

Was hoping for some advice from people who have been in this situation to get some tips on how they overcame it.

Why should he be less reliant on his key worker? The reason for key workers is that it provides stability and security, very important at this age.

School is ages away. He will change a lot in that time.

If it is in the last week, maybe he's just a bit unwell?
