Do girls need more sleep than boys????

Just wondering as Ds is and always has been a horrendous sleeper, however most people I knew with girls same age as him [hes nearly 3] all slept really well. Now DD has come along and at the age of 9mths will sleep from 6.30pm till at least 8am usually later if she doesnt have to get up. She will also have a sleep from 2-4pm at which point I have to wake her up. DS has never ever slept like that..only started sleeping through at 18mths and even now will wake on occasion. He has no daytime sleep so I put him to bed at 7pm but he is up and ready for action at 6am. Although he does alsop still wake up some nights which is a nightmare.

I have a DD and she was an awful sleeper, especially when tiny. She didn't sleep through until 20 months, when we resorted to CC. At 4y5m she still wakes in the night most nights, but settles herself back to sleep.

dd has never slept more than 10 hours per night, and at 2.5 was only napping an hour maximum, then dropped it (more or less). She was an ok sleeper as a baby, and has always been good about going to bed and sleepig through, but she never needs as much as I'd like her to need
Her pal we met yesterday, OTOH, still sleeps 12 hour nights and 2 hour naps at 3.4 he happens to be a boy.
Don't think there's a gender thing there really..

I don't think it is a gender thing either.

DS was an awful sleeper for the first 6 months - hours spent pacing the landing, midnight trips down the M1 etc. Then at 6 months started sleeping through 8-5 but by 1 was sleeping through 7.30-7 which he still is at 5.7 with never any trouble in the night. He had a 2 hour nap until he was nearly 3 1/2 also.

DD was a better baby in that although she still woke up lots of times she was easier to settle. But was more like 10-11 months before she started sleeping through much. Now at 2.4 she has just gone through a phase of waking up lots of times in the night (7 or 8 not unusual) and still not taking a lot of settling but that number of wakenings (all after we have gone to bed) really cuts into your sleep. But all of a sudden has gone to sleeping through 7.30-7.30. But with less nap and I think it won't be long before she drops it.
