Advice needed: 7 week old struggling to nap due to wind

Hi, I need some advice on my 7 week old DD. She is my second child but we didn't have any problems with wind with our son so I'm unsure what to do. She seemed to get lots of griping pain from early on so we have been giving her infacol and gripe water for a few weeks now which has helped at night.

However, during the last week or so, she has struggled with her naps. Ironically, her night time sleep has improved greatly. We put her down around 7.30 and she will sleep (sometimes settled, sometimes needs winding on/off until 9) until we dream feed her at 10.30/11. The last week she has then been sleeping until 6.30ish although usually needs the dummy around 5ish but then settles with little problem.

With her naps, she struggles to sleep longer than 30-45 min at the moment unless we're out the house and active. Today, she kept waking from her naps after 30 min and had more wind/sick up but wouldn't then re-settle. When I took her out in the pram, she woke after 45 min but then went back to sleep for another 45 min without any intervention (we were constantly moving). She seems to constantly be burping/sicking up and I'm sure that's disturbing her naps.

I'm not sure if it's connected but she has also had very watery, smelly poos for the last week-slightly green but only one a day. This doesn't seem normal?

I breastfeed with the exception of a 7pm bottle of formula. She feeds well and is gaining weight.

Please help!!

Thank you

It sounds quite normal to me, both mine were 40 minute nappers and either cluster fed in the evenings or needed resettling frequently. It wasn't wind though.

Dd was like this, was a variety of things, there's a leap/growth spurt at about that time, but in the end I went to a cranial Osteopath and it seemed to help her wind. Poos once a day (or even once a week!) are normal with breastfed babies iirc but I'm not sure about the green poo! Good luck!

If they nap for a short time like this, it's usually because they've been put down for a nap too early or too late and they're overtired.

With small babies napping for just one sleep cycle is extremely common though. It's mostly a developmental thing they grow out of, but you can try extending naps.

Thanks for your comments, all food for thought. I' definitely going to look into the cranial osteopath for wind though. How many sessions did it take? I'll keep a closer eye on her sleep cues too, although not always easy with a nearly 3 year old demanding attention!

My 5.5 month old has only ever done 30-45 minute naps despite me trying every trick under the sun (wake to sleep / putting down earlier/later). As pp said - one sleep cycle naps are very common and it's nothing you are doing wrong.

He has literally in the last week started doing some slightly longer naps since he decided he wanted to sleep on his tummy.

One other thing - he did all his naps on me until 3.5 months. I sometimes managed to get longer sleeps by jiggling/rocking him just as I noticed him stirring.
