Walking on insides of feet, and experience?

Dd is 15 months. She's been walking for around 2 1/2 months now. She has always walked on the inside of her foot (foot rolls on the big toe side if that makes sense) even in shoes she's the same.

I've spoken to the health visitor and they're referring her to a Physio.

Has anyone else's dc been through this? Can anyone give me an idea what to expect?

Hey... My son has this... He is now 24 months and was a late walker. He was referred to a paediatrician at 19 months as still not walking on his own but standing and cruising, holding on with one hand so his bendy ankles were becoming obvious. Started walking at 21 months. Anyway...

He saw the pediatrician at about 22 months... She has referred him for physio (currently on the waiting list) and for assessment with an orthotic person (not entirely sure what the exact title is!) and he advised braces in addition to physio as the two complement each other and from his experience using both is most successful.

He has had the braces on both ankles/legs for about a month now and they seem to be helping a lot! Well, judging by the sprinting speed anyway... It's increased exponentially Hmm.

We are still waiting to start the physio but hopefully not too much longer. From my understanding they do an assessment and then spend some time with the parent/guardian showing how to do the stretches at home.

We're not in the UK (Canada) but I suspect treatment would be very similar. Just a different referral route as we don't have health visitors so it's all done through the gp.

Rereading your post it doesn't look like my experience will be that helpful but maybe it will reassure you a bit? It's kind of daunting to start with but everyone that you see has seen it a million times before which really puts you at ease Smile.

My DS does this.

He is 18 months, but can't walk, cruise or stand unsupported. When he does stand or walk holding our hands, all of his weight is on the inside of his feet.

Physio didn't seem overly concerned! Although did provide us with some special footwear (piedro boots) which are meant to help correct it.
