Can a baby sleep too much?

9 month old DS sleeps 12-14 hours through the night then will sleep for around 3-4 hours during the day time. He always seems tired out and I'm worried he's sleeping more than what is usual

Does this sound normal or should I take him to the GP?

I would say that's a lot for his age tbh. Both of mine slept for 11.5-12 a night (13 if shattered) and 1.5-2 in the day.

If he still seems worn out id take him to the gp

He seems tired a lot but he is also very active compared to other babies I know of a similar age.

I feel like I don't even see him lately because he sleeps so much. Going to ring the doctors and book an appointment, thank you!

Seems fine to me. Dd at nine months slept 7-8, then had 45mins til 10am, 1.5hr after lunch and 30/45mins before tea. She didnt drop to two naps til she was passed One.

For 9 months it seems right to me.

If you are concerned you could get his iron checked out though. Is he on supplements/formula?

I also had a lazy boy (hes 24 now) up to just over a year old, he woould only be awake 4-5 hours a day, we coudnt get out of the house as he had so much nap time, our doc and HV said make the most of it, he was active when he was awake.

Sounds fine. Some need more sleep than others. My 2.8 year old was like that, and still has a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, then sleeps 12-13 hours at night.

Sounds fine, especially if he's very active - long may it last! :)

Sounds exact same as my ds at that age. He's now 3 and still has a 2 hr nap during the afternoon. He never stops moving jumping running playing chatting and singing when he's up. Enjoy! Smile

My DTs slept a lot initially too. It felt like they were hardly ever awake for the first 6 months of their lives. About the same as your DS. Now at 21 months they sleep a total of 14 hours. Some children need more sleep than others.
