My son did this at 3 , he's 3.8 now and it's passed . Lasted about 2-3 months. We were told not to make an issue of it and it'll go away x

Dd started blinking more than 'normal' last year. And complaining about hurt-y eyes.

GP found nothing (had to pin screaming 2yo dd down)
Optician found nothing
It went by autumn so I thought it was a phase.

It started again this year the same week dh and ds started suffering from hay fever. We went to GP again and suggeste hay fever. They seemed doubtful despite all family except me suffering from it but a few doses of antihistamine later and it all stopped again. smile

Hay fever is fairly common and although irritating its nothing scary. Get checked for that first. smile

DS1 did that at the same age. Usually while concentrating/watching TV. i did take him to the opticians just to check, but all was ok.

he stopped doing it as quickly as he started, but i do remember being worried.

DD (5.5) goes through excessive blinking phases and has done since about 2.5. They last 7-10 days and then stop. We went to our GP as it was picked up by her teacher and he said it was a mixture of habit and possible stress related. We have noticed that the episodes coincide with coming near to end of term/half term and two holidays abroard we had in that period. It also increases in the evenings during the episodes as she is tired.

She is NT. We tend to ignore it as any emphasis on it seems to make it worse.

Blue makes a great point about hayfever being a possibility. Definately see a GP or HV if you are concerned.

Welcome to MN.

I don't know if this will help, but DS2 went through a stage of blinking a lot, but I haven't noticed it recently, so I guess it has just stopped and it was a phase. However, he is not dyspraxic.

Could it be something physical - does he suffer from hayfever for example?

this is my first time on here, but I had to join! My 3.6 son has just started to do the blinking thing, & iv been really worried, he is the sensitive type, & ofcourse iv been obsessing over what could be causing a child so young to stress that badly they develop a tic, until I just saw someone mention theirs was being checked out for dyspraxia... Mine has it! & I'm presuming it could be linked to some of the frustrating things that come out of not being able to talk, & express his feelings in the more normal ways, would LOVE to know if this sounds about right?& is there ANYTHING I CAN do? It is BREAKING my heart... Poor little guy suffers terribly from separation anxiety... Help
