Should I be concerned?

My dd is nearly 9 months and is still not sitting independently or rolling over. She is a very long baby (10cm longer than average at 6 month check)and in the 91st centile for length. She has no evident hip or limb problems but just throws herself backwards if i try to sit her up at a 90 degree angle. She will sit supported by pillows but shuffles down to a 45 degree angle when in pushchair or highchair or on pillows.Anyone got any ideas/opinions am I being paranoid? My ds who was a "normal" size sat at 6 months.I know they all differ but am beginning to worry a little.Any comments gratefully received!!

I saw my gp 2 weeks ago (about something else) but happened to mention that my 5 and a half month old daughter still couldn't roll. I thought he'd just tell me she'd do it all in her own good time, but actually he took it quite seriously and got her to do things like lie on the floor and see how much she could push up and reach for objects etc. In the end he said she seemed to be developing ok in other ways, but that I should come back if she still couldn't do it at 8 months.

As it happens I put her down on the floor about 2 hours later to do some ironing and when I looked down again she'd rolled over in a 'you only had to ask' kind of way! which just goes to show that you never can tell when they will do these things, but given what my gp said maybe worth a trip to yours?

my dd2 is 8 1/2 months and cant sit up either, only when supported.she has only just started rolling over but stll gets her arm stuck.dd1 was exactly the same,my hv at the time was saying there was something wrong but i didnt think so...she was just more concerned with learning to talk which is the same with dd2.my 2 sons were earlier developers physically.dd1 sat up around 9 1/2 months, she didnt crawl till 12 months and walked at 16 months.shes now 7 and totally fine!all babies are different but if you feel there is something wrong(ur a better judge than any1)then talk to ur hv again

I found with my dd (now 9 1/2 m & also 91st centile BTW!) that if she could feel cushions etc behind her then she would lean back on them and shuffle down to 45dgrees like you say. So I used the lay cushions flat behind her on the floor and sit her up. Once she wasn't feeling "proped up" she soon got her balance and sat forward. She still slides down in her buggy etc though.

I'm not sure that the age for sitting and rolling will be connected. My DS sat at 6m but didn't roll over until about 8m - I was expecting it to be the other way around.

Hi there. My DD was sitting ok at 7mths but didn't roll over until 12mths, after she started bum shuffling!! I think it depends on what they want to acheive. She has always hated lying down, rolling, etc. Much prefers to sit and play and be nosey.
