Hi i have tried everything in the book over 3 years and i just dont know what to do about his behaviour. He is nearly 5 now and he still hits me, bites me, punches me and also kicks me aswell as throw things at me and break things to upset me. I have tried nearly everything and its come to the point where i have had to restrain him so he doesnt hurt either one of us and it kills me inside. What do i do?

Have you been to GP about him?

Does he behave like this with his father? At school? With Gran? Or, is it just with you?

I have been to the doctors because i thought he might of had adhd. They said he wouldnt be able to get tested until he was 5. Then i also had video interviews at home with my sons behaviour and nothing was wrong they said. Nanna didnt witness his behaviour but as i have moved closer she has and doesnt have nothing to say that i havent already tried. He has had outbursts at school and also with his father when he sees him. But he is worse than all of them outbursts with me as i think its because i have him all the time. I have tried the charts, naughty corner and chair also have tried ignoring the bad behaviour and praising the good but that didnt work. Everything i have tried it works for about 3 weeks and then he doesnt listen after that. I know that he understands me but he just carries on.

Google Oppositional Defiance Disorder and see if the symptoms ring any bells. I also suggest you post on the Special Needs board, there are parents there whose children behaves similar to yours and they will have advice on how to handle it.

They arent burns they are where he has biten me constantly as i have held him to stop him from head butting the walls. I had to use a little force otherwise he would of done worse than those to me. And yes i tried speaking to many people about his behaviour and all i got was the same thing there isnt anything wrong with him he might just be having a paddy thats all and that its normal. He started to hit his head off the floor when he was 10months old if i remember rightly. Biting hitting started about same age. When he turnt 1 and half he started pulling hair and throwing things. He used to run at walls at this point also. Then when he was 2 everything started happening throwing hitting biting punching biting himself also which many times i end up getting bitten because i was trying to stop him from biting himself. Also scratchong pinching and grabbing started to happen when he was 2 and half. Its stayed the same except he isnt running into walls or head butting the floor he just hurts me now instead. And the difference now is he has started to talk properly now and has big time attitude. Which im guessing is partly my fault the attitude bit.

Get him assessd. Could be psychological issues.

It's not normal, sorry. You must both be miserable, you must demand help from HV. Show up every day at her office if you have to.

I have been to the doctors constantly heartbleed. They said he is going through a stage or even more so see hv and they will be able to tell if there is something wrong. I did that and they said there is nothing wrong with him he probably just needs to burn more energy off so i started to do more things and get out more than i used to and also just be more active in general and he is still the same. But he does this thing when other people are around he acts like butter wouldnt melt. Same when i go to the doctors acts all poorly at home and then i take him to the doctors to find out whats actually wrong with him and he perks up like there wasnt even anything wrong to begin with.

Have you shown all those bite marks to HV?

I'm sorry you're going through this. I have heard from my ENT consultant (and read articles online) that ADHD type behaviour can sometimes have a medical root - namely enlarged tonsils and adenoids.
Do you think this may be possible with your son? Worthwhile going to the doctors just in case.
