Is it a bad idea to take a step backwards and go back to night nappies, or am I giving up too easy?

How old is he?

My ds is 4 and still wears a night nappy. Hes only woken up dry twice before I think and still asks for one on so I let him.

He made the decision himself to give them up, he still has problems with accidents through the day, although his bladder control is brilliant, we are waiting an eeg scan to check for petit mal.

I think at 5 you are able to ask him how he would feel about going back into nappies. If it would really affect his confidence and his feeling of being a big boy then I think id be tempted to carry on without them. Dont they do disposable mates you can put under him or something - i think my mom had some for my brother (who was also 5 when he stopped his night nappies) Has he started school? Do you think that hes picked up from there about not wearing a nappy at night? My brother was really embarrassed that his school friends didnt seem to wear one and that prompted him into wanting rid of his.

Well I suggested to him a few back when I noticed he was waking up dry alot of nights, he refused point blank and got upset, but he must have quietly been thinking about it as I woke him 4 days ago to find his dry nappy on the floor and his bed dry, he said he took it off after going to bed and did'nt want them anymore. I have thought about those bed mats, but he is such a figit I cant judge where in the bed to put it, this morning for example he was culdes up in a wet patch at the very bottom of the bed.

He is proud of himself for taking the plunge and not wearing a nappy, so I dont want to knock his confidence, but I have told him they are there if he wants them.

Awe bless him.

I bet its harder work for you though with the extra washing and drying? (Partly why I have encouraged my DS to start nappy-free nights )

Does he wake up when he does a wee? Or sleep through it?

I think he sleeps through it, he is a very heavy sleeper.

Can you gte one of those full size waterproof matress protectors so that its just the sheet that gets wet not the matress?
You could also put another sheet in reaching position if he wants to be independant, so if he wakes up wet he could get the wet one off and replace it...loadsa washign though

it does'nt help that he sleeps a straight 12 - 13 hours a night (always has done)
I have tried lifting him around midnight, but he does'nt take to kindly to that.

Sorry, I am crap with advicey type stuff but im trying lol

Dont some people say to wake them just before you go to bed so they can have a wee. DOnt know whether thats considered a good or bad thing though.

Does he take a drink to bed? My mom found that once she stopped sending him to bed with a drink he was wet less.

I have a waterproof mattress protectors, but he wraps himself up tight in his duvet, so everything gets wet.

He takes a very small drink to bed, I am currently trying to bring the amount he has down bit by bit.

Going thru the same with DD who is 3.5 at her request - I'd have been happy to leave her in night nappies for a while longer!!
What seems to work is not too much liquid before bed and making sure she goes before bed
I have also put a potty in her room so if she wants a wee in the night she can go on that.
I have also put bed mats on the matress with a sheet over then another bed mat with a sheet over that so if there is an accident I just whip the top sheet and mat off and I don't have to re-make the bed (bleary eyed and sleepy in the night - not a good combo!!) with fresh sheets as they are already there.
Good Luck - bless their little hearts - they are trying so hard aren't they!
