hi, my ds2 is 8 weeks old and currently having cow&gate formula milk which hes has been doing fine with having between 4 and 5 floz at most feeds, and gaining weight steadily. though over the past week hes been feeding really eratically having maybe 2 1/2 to 3 floz and then appearing as thoug hes still hungry (chewing on fist/dummy and whinging) my friend suggested hugrier baby milk though im not sure as its not as if hes draining a bottle then wanting more. Is it that what hes having isnt filling him enough or is it just somthing silly like the hot weather to blame?
Please any advice is very much needed as im really not sure what to do.

If hes not drinking all, then i dont think its a feeding issue. sounds like teething.......

teething or colic, I think. doesn't sound like he needs hungry baby milk, no.

Sounds like teething to me too (and it's perfectly possible to be teething at 8 weeks). I wouldn't bother with the hungry baby milk, doesn't sound like a feeding issue at all.

is he also miserable in between feeds.........as though he is hungry but 'cant' take any more milk?

Teething, really i wouldnt have thought of that so early.

carlyp yes he has been like that even more so today. i didnt think it would be colic as hes like it all day and doesnt raise his knees to his chest.

That said he did have a slight temp on sat and my local pharmasist (sp) said he seemed ok to him and gave me some calpol. his temp has now beenfine since then its just the crying and not feeding.

That really does sound like teething ... sucking is painful when they're teething, so he'll still be hungry but not want to feed because it's sore for him. Plus it hurts even when he's not feeding, so he's doubly miserable.

Bear in mind that some babies are born with teeth - I promise you that it's quite possible to be teething this early.

hiya
When we had this we put a smear of dentinox or calgel on 10 mins before a feed and it made a hugs dfference.

The other thing to consider is moving up a teat size in case LO is getting bored of sucking and not really full

My ds did this and it turned out he had a bit of an upset tummy. He went off his food and I was going spare, trying everything I could, including teething stuff, calpol in case he had a sore htroat (HV advice), different teats, different temps, infacol. Nothing worked so I took him to the GP who took a poo sample and he'd picked up a bug. It took about a week and he was back to normal sized feeds. I know it's horrible and worrying when they change their feeding habits but he will get over it.
