How old was your lo when they started to walk?

Twins born at 34 weeks.

DT2 - 14 months (12 months corrected)
DT1 - We are still waiting (she will be 15 months on Sunday)

If they aren't walking by 18 months they get referred for examination around 21 months in case there's a problem (usually isn't, just slower than most),

DD was 9 months old.

DS has just turned 8 months old and I don't think it'll be long (although I'd be happy if I was wrong).

Early walking = a PITA. I could have done with a few more months of peace!

DD was 2 years and four days!!!! Talked very early though.

DC1 was just gone 12 months and DC2 at 11 months but didn't gain enough confidence to do it a lot until 13 months.

12 and a half months

Agree with Showy that the two aren't linked, although in my experience that's because DS1 both walked (16mo) and talked (2yo) late grin.

Showy Sun 15-Dec-13 14:42:45

I saw no link between walking and talking. DD walked at 11 months and we have video of her talking on her first birthday. By 17 months she spoke fluently with no pronoun issues and was easily understood. DS was walking at 9 months, running everywhere by 9.5 months and talked early and well too though not as well as his sister.

I think personality affected how quickly mine walked. DS in particular was determined to get up and walk. He didn't care about falling or wobbling but was going to get up and join in with us whatever. My niece was always very content to sit quietly and just didn't seem to be bothered about getting up. It's all evened out in the end but the desire to walk certainly had to be present before they tried.

Yes I think having an older sibling has got him moving faster....he's desperate to keep up and also DS1 encourages him by crawling with him and calling him over etc! dS1 was quite a late talker as well but running and blethering non stop now! grin

1.13 months
2.16 months
3.14 months
4.14 months
5.14 months
6.13 months
7. 21.5 months and just about there. Being investigated for hyper mobility or hip issues

My two have certainly followed that theory Lullabyte.

DD1 didn't walk until 16 months, but she was talking clear words since 12 months.

DD2 is 13 months now and she has been sofa surfing since 10 months, standing unaided since 11 months, and in the last few days has started taking her first steps. But she's not talking at all. Plenty of noise, just no words.

Are you worried OP?

Nancyclancy Sat 14-Dec-13 22:52:19

27 months here!!! I was worried sick, but my dd got there. Within 3 months she'd caught up with her peers!

duchesse Sat 14-Dec-13 21:53:38

Mine were 10 mo, 10 mo, 10 mo, 12 mo (the week of her birthday!). All varied wildly in the amount they fell, injuries etc... Age of first walking seemed to make no difference.

Lullabyte Sat 14-Dec-13 21:36:55

That's amazing HighlandBird! Do you think it may also have to do with having an older sibling?

I agree with you sneezecake - early walking doesn't really signify anything but...early walking.

One of my friends had a theory that late walkers = early talkers (so they will get what they need brought to them, ie. toys, food, etc) and early walkers=late talkers (because they can get to what they need without as much help). Who knows. For the most part, all the developmental differences pretty much balance out by age four anyway!

12mo, almost exactly on the dot.

mrscog Sat 14-Dec-13 20:15:00

17 months exactly! Felt like it took forever smile

Dd crawled at six months, pulled up at 8 months and started cruising. Didn't walk independently till 13 months. And now at 15 months she runs everywhere!

busylizzie76 Sat 14-Dec-13 20:07:20

Stupid phone....
Ds - 12 months, first tooth 16 months!
Dd - 13 months, first tooth 9 months.

busylizzie76 Sat 14-Dec-13 20:06:09

mumofone25 Sat 14-Dec-13 20:02:54

My DD started walking independently a few days after her first birthday. She didn't start crawling until she was 10 months. They all get there in the end!

LittleBearPad Sat 14-Dec-13 20:01:35

On her first birthday.

PinkPepper Sat 14-Dec-13 19:58:09
