amusing toddler generated names for things

When ds was about 20m he started referring to his blankie as 'fwottie'. I checked many times with him, 'do you mean froggy?'but no, it is definitely fwottie. The blankie has a little elephant on it and he can say elephant so I can only conclude he's just created his own name for it. It makes me chuckle and I'd love to hear your other random toddler names for stuff.

He's otherwise very articulate and I've checked repeatedly but it's definitely 'scarf' according to him.

DD1 at 18 months named her dressing gown "down gown", and it's stuck with all of us now ever since

Thiscoukdbeme · 28/11/2013 21:12

Our knives and forks are cuttery.

Queen0fFlamingEverything · 28/11/2013 21:12

My then 2 yr old called the tin opener 'a spanner for beans' once when trying to explain what we should have for tea and how to prepare it.

Its still known as the beanspanner at home Grin

Hopelass · 28/11/2013 21:16

Not much more though! Can't wait for more.
When I was young I called a dressing gown a dressing garden, and armbows were elbows - I'm 30-something and still use them, as do my family when we're all together Smile

We watch the teddybishun(?) in our house Smile
My dad, who we've always referred to as Grampy, became 'mynor' as soon as ds1 could speak. He is now known by that name- to the entire family!

I used to call gooseberries 'duftiups', digestive biscuits were 'tum-honeys' and my brother used to call his woollen hat a 'waddie'

I'm completely outed now if any of my family are mners! Grin

CooCooCachoo · 28/11/2013 21:44

Grandad is yakyak ??

YankNCock · 28/11/2013 21:55

I've just started minding a little girl who has recently moved from China. She calls our dog 'Go-Go' which is either Mandarin or Shanghai-ese for 'doggy'. In two days I've started finding myself referring to the dog as Go-Go!

DS1 used to take his socks/mittens off and 'put them to dry on the caterator' (radiator).

Also 'Pots-its' for pasta. I've been known to ring up DH at work and tell him 'we're having pots-its for dinner', long after DS1 started saying it correctly.
