My 11 month old still does not sleep through... Help me please!

My DS has never been a great sleeper, used to struggle to get him to nap and although he goes down at 7/7.30 pm awake and perfectly happy we get woken generally around 2am 4am and 6am by him screaming. Usually he seems to still be asleep and just giving him his dummy sorts it. At 6 however he wants his bottle and will then sleep until 8ish.

It's getting really draining to be honest, I'm pregnant again and just worried how I will cope having not had a decent nights sleep in what will be over a year unless DS sleeps out at my parents.

I tried Controlled crying and that worked for a bit but he seems to have regressed.

He has a bedtime routine, bath, jamas, bottle, brush teeth, story then put in cot awake.

I just can't figure it out :((

Hey I just posted on another similar thread....

Am in a similar boat, I await wisdom, DD has an iron will (are they all Scorpios by any chance?!!? Hmm)

Just about to say I have the same problem, although considering how bad dds sleep was last month, this new sleeping pattern is bliss. But I wonder if there is something I could do to help with this habitual waking.

She's a Scorpio too, is there something weird about scorpios I should know?!

Sorry guys but plenty of kids don't sleep through til 3 or even 4! Though I know how draining it is, i just always found it easier once I'd accepted this is how things are. FWIW I'd describe DD as an average sleeper, she mostly slept 7.30 til 5.30 from about 18 months, getting gradually better til at 2 her sleep is quite reliable 8 til 6.15 or 6.30. 2.7 now, She still requires some assistance in the middle of the night about once a week (or once a night when she has a cold like this week) but it is very easy to deal with her now, just tuck her in say "back to sleep".

Yes, really sorry to confirm that some DCs are just useless at sleep and will hold out until much older to sleep through!

I've got two of the little darlings and can count the number of solid nights of sleep I've had in six years on two hands. Yup.

Our DD was a terrible sleeper too. It got so bad, I got some advice from an 'expert'. We were doing a lot of things 'wrong'. I didn't particularly like her communication style (patronising and overly direct), but I have to admit that by following her advice our DD slept through from day 2.

There was a lot she told us, but I think the things that worked for us were.

  • enlarge the holes in the bottle to make it easier for them to get more milk from the bottle during the last feed (I was just moving from BF to bottle at the time, so I this probably had the biggest impact)
  • cuddle while reading a story and then put them down awake
  • put toys in the cot and make it cosy (ours had nothing in it because I was worried about suffocation)
  • add 3 -4 dummies, so they have easy access
  • never pick up at night to comfort. Just give them a cuddle while still in the cot and lay them down (we had been rocking back to sleep)

Good luck. You must be exhausted. Congratulations on the pregnancy too.
