Nearly 3 and can't jump....

Hello. My DS is very nearly 3 and can't jump. He does try and he thinks he does it but he really can't at all. Should I be worried? He is very active and great on his balance bike so his balance seems ok. Would a junior trampoline help? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had the same with dd and I mentioned it on the health form when she was three. The health visitor said she'd refer dd (can't remember who to). We saw the specialist, who looked her over and said they wouldn't do anything until she was four.

Dd jumped the next day.

She was born with a turned in foot although it was nothing major. We just had to massage it.

When she was about 7 the fitter in the shoe shop mentioned how unevenly dd's shoes wore out. We took her to be seen again but again it was so minor that she didn't need insoles etc.

Sorry for a very round about way of saying, mention it to the health visitor if you are worried but I really think it's in the realms of normal.

Btw, dd jumps fine now at 9 and has no mobility or balance problems.

I teach gymnastics and have some children (quite a few actually) in the 4-7 years group that can't. My son could jump at 18 months after my partner sunk our trampoline.... You can practice jumping off things holding both hands, making then bend both knees and also hoops on the floor

Thanks for the replies. We have our 2.5 year check soon and I think that is what has started me wondering. I don't want to make a big thing of it for him but will try the suggestions. Much appreciated.
