my ds is 3 months old tomorrow he was 8.12 at birth and has been progressing perfectly since then he weighed 11.14 at 6 weeks but i took him to be weighed today and he is only 13.14oz so he has only gained 2lb in 6 weeks.
he has started sleeping through the night in the last 4 weeks or so so i guess in theory he misses a feed. the HV said not to wake him up if he is taking all his feed in the day (which he is)
i guess what im asking is. is 13.14 an ok weight for a 3mo baby or should i be concerned that he isnt gaining as fast as he was before ?

Is he following the centile in the red book? My DD was the same, 8lb at birth, 11lb by 6 weeks and then the weight gain started to slow down, she dropped a couple of centiles but the health visitor wasn't concerned and she's now 2.6 and perfectly healthy if a bit small for her age but not abnormally so, still well within normal ranges. I don't actually know what she weighs now as she had a strop at the 2 year check and wouldn't get on the scales.

Is he eating, drinking, peeing, and pooing 'normally'?
Is he alert and interested in things?
Does he seem 'poorly' or unhappy about life in general?

Their weight gain does vary, but as long as they are still gaining, and don't seem 'ill' then it will normally settle out fine on its own.

I thought that they were meant to gain a minimum of 4 oz per week at that age, so he is above that?

Some babies are big and then adjust down the centimes a bit. Some do the opposite, few stay on the same line forever.

Average weight gain at this age is between 5 and 7 ounces per week and average length increase is one inch per month.

Agree with the others, there doesn't seem to be anything in your post tht would indicate a problem Smile

HV seemed happy with my wee one.

He weighed 9lb7 at birth.

Then dropped to 8lb10oz at 2 weeks

8 weeks was 12lb

12 weeks was 12lb10

So only 10oz increase in 4 weeks but they were happy so long as he was putting on and was eating his feeds.

9oz milk every 3 hours in the 12 hours he's awake so quite a lot! Guess it must be his constant wriggling and metabolism

Was he weighed on the same scales and have they been calibrated?
