4.9m DS wants to sleep all the time. Thought it was a growth spurt - now I'm worried. Help!

I'm taking him to the doc next week (soonest I could get - blinkin' ridiculous) but would appreciate any thoughts.

My DS after 1.5-2hrs of being up he would want a nap, but now I'm finding it's more like 1-1.5hrs and when he's awake he's yawning what feels like ALL the time!! It makes it very confusing to gaugue when he actually IS tired now - I have to guestimate based on when he last woke.

This morning since feeding at 5.45am he's slept 7-7.50am & is now 1hr 37 into his 2nd nap.

This has been going on for about 2 weeks I'd say. At first I thought it was a growth spurt but now I'm worried something's not quite right. He's getting sleepy during his bottle feeds as well which he used to only do at his bedtime feed. I use 2 different bottle types (long story) & so tried the next teat size up but it made no difference apart from causing him to finish his bottle in under 10mins & then cry because it was over so quick despite my best efforts to pace him!

What is up with him??!

Sounds normal for naps to be all over the place at that age, my 5 month old occasionally has 50 minute naps, sometimes 3+ hours. I'm just going with it.

If he's more active and alert now, or getting more stimulation, practising sitting up etc, that's probably tiring him out too. I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about (for comparison, my just 5 month old woke at 7am, slept in the car for half an hour at 8, had a 50 minute nap at about 9:30 and is currently conked out in my lap having another one.

If he's alert and fully awake when he's awake I would just count your blessings Grin

Dd1 was a full sleeper. 12 hours at night from 8 weeks, 3 hour sleep in the afternoon, nap at other times too and not effect her usual sleep.
Revenge came with dd2 who only needed about 10 hours total sleep from birth. Grin

I think thats ok too - mine had about 40mins to an hour around 9am and then anyting from 45mins to 2.5 hours on some rare, blissful days at around that age.

Ah ok, phew I'm a bit less concerned now. I am trying to go with the flow, definitely (not something that came naturally to me before he was born!) I sometimes just worry that when he gets overtired I'm doing him some great disservice by not getting him down at the perfect moment & he'll subconsiously hold it against me forever Grin. When really he'll have forgotten about it probably by the next nap!
