May daughter used to be an amazing sleeper and had our routine down. this week however she will scream if i put her in a cot i have tried waiting outside the room and staying in the room. the only thing that calms her is picking her up and having a cuddle...she then falls asleep

I feel that is defeating the object, she is clearly tired but just won't give in. I'm at my witts end, i'm just not used to this battle!

any advise would be great

My 2 and a half year old gave us some grief last autumn, when she has decided that she doesn't want to sleep during the NIGHT. She got out of her cot 40-50 (!) times during the night, and as many times she did get out, as many times I had to take her back into her cot. The problem was that she was big enough to climb out of her cot, open the door, climb over the gate and go into the landing, just by the stairs where she could easily tumble down... So we tried everything - locking her in her sleeping bag - she would climb over the gate in it anyway. We bought higher gates - didn't work. In the end to avoid her being able to go on to the landing during the night we had to put a lock on her door. And we went cold turkey. It took three nights and she started to sleep as she used to sleep before - through the night. This is my second child. So, after all the experiences I went through with both of them I would advise to go cold turkey and let your child stay in their cot for their sleeping time. They may rebel to start off, but you shall be rewarded. In that little age they need to sleep during the day
