Hi, came on here because my just about 7 month old DD has been waking at 5:15-5:30 for about 3 weeks now. She goes to sleep between 7 and 8 but usually at 7:30. Sometimes wakes once or twice in the evening (between 7:30 and 9:30), when we just pick her up and she goes straight back to sleep, sometimes sleeps "through" till 5:15/5:30. Anyway she is wide awake and won't go back to sleep even if I cuddle her/give her some milk in the dark/ no eye contact etc. Have tried for an hour! Won't go back to sleep in bed with us either, just thinks its playtime. Have tried making bedtime earlier and later - no effect. Have tried cutting out her afternoon nap - no effect (possibly made her sleep worse at night). Have tried dream feed - no effect. Her room is a steady 19degrees and sges in a grobag. It is obviously pitch black outside but she has a little nightlight in her room that stays on all night. Not really willing to do CC and don't see that it would work anyway as I cannot get her back to sleep at all! Also as she's crawling would be worried she'd get frustrated and try to pull herself up. She then has a nap at 8:30-9am for 40 mins to an hour. She's never been a late riser but it used to be 6:15-6:30 which suited me! Anyway, as a last ditch before I give up and start getting up at 5:15ish for the foreseeable thought I might try wake to sleep but keen to hear from anyone who's done it. How long will I have to do it for? What time should I wake her? Would love to hear from you or any other suggestions I might have missed, sorry for long post just wanted to explain what I'd already tried! X
I used wake to sleep very successfully with my dd several times Shen she was younger, however it only works if your lo is waking out of habit rather than genuinely having had enough sleep. Is your lo tired at 5.15?? You would need to rouse her very gently an hour before her normal wake up time for three nights in a row, if its not working its suggested you continue for a further three nights .
Thanks Dancemom! I think she is waking out of habit - she still rubs her eyes, etc but I think she's too "wired" to go back to sleep. Before this happened she was getting 11-11.5 hours a night and the same amount of naps during the day so think she prob does need that extra hour x
No just disturb her, rub her back and fix her blanket if She is a light sleeper, maybe need to do a bit more if She is a heavier sleeper, it'd just to disturb the sleep cycle - good luck setting your alarm for 4am for three days in a row!!
It might just be a phase - my 8-month old has got into a really bad habit of waking at 11pm for no ostensible reason. And, it's teething time, which doesn't help. But worth a try if you're up for it. IME it's amazing how little time it can take for things to work - I remember trying CC with my 2nd and feeling terrible about it and it took 20 mins first night, 2 the next!
Good luck - although I have to say, I dream of my little boy waking at 5am. Or 4am, for that matter.
