DS very small

My ds is nearly 3.5 (on May 20th, he is 4 in Nov) and is only 90cm tall. He seems to have only grown 2cm since September (though it's difficult to know if we measured accurately then) although his feet have got bigger and he has moved from 2-3 tops into age 3 tops. He wears trousers for 18-24 month olds. His development seems fine in all other respects. We are both smallish but both the grandfathers are over 6 feet tall. Should I be concerned?

No, My Ds is 8 and only 116cm tall, my DD2 is only 98cm and she is 4.5. They take after me, I am small.

Same here!
Dd is 3.5 89 cms, 25lbs - dd has a genetic condition that keeps her petite.
How tall are you Helly and your dh, any smallies in the family?
If there are a few, then relax boys often stay small until puberty when they then grow with gat abandon - my dp and my middle brother were short and both topped 5ft 9 as adults.

I wouldn't panic, though I know it's easier said than done. All my three are about the same size as yours and DH aren't I even small- I'm 5' 6" and Dh is 5' 10". When we took DS3 to A&E just over a year ago, they looked at him naked, then almost forciby removed him for weighing / check up by a Paed without us there. you can only imagine how scared we were... until they returned him, mentioning sheepishly that he was on exactly the same centile he had followed since 2 months (he was quite average when born) and how the other Paeds had noticed he had run the whole gamut of tests for being small a few months before and cleared with nothing but a milk allergy.

My three are also supremely healthy: they very rarely get even a cold, and although sam does have some SN, he is the fastest kid I know, and the fittest- hsi stamina at sports is incredible, were told he could train for nationals in gymnastics but he couldn't be arsed.

If you are concerned, get your GP to refer him for a developmental check up. itll either reassure you or make you glad you did it. I suspect it will be the former.

I wouldn't have thought it was anything to worry about. My DS2 was 3 last month & still fits in 18-24mth trousers (2-3's swamp him) & is only a size 6.5 shoe.
I am 5ft 6 & DH is 5ft 8. My HV didn't seem concerned at his 2 year check & said that they wouldn't expect him to be that tall if his Dad is under 6ft.

little charge is nearly 4 and still in 18 - 24 month trousers (age 2 tops)... compared to 12 - 18 month trousers this time last year

shes little and so is her mum.... and about as bright as your average 5 year old i reckon!

She eats really well and mum doesnt worry!

one of DS2's friends at the church Creche is exactly the same size as him. DS2 is 2, his friend is 4! We all come in shapes and sizes don't worry about it.

My dd will be 5 in June and is only 99cm tall. I was sorting out her clothes the other day and finally got rid of most the age 2-3 clothes, but kept some of the trousers! Her feet are only size 7.

You will probably find he will go through growth spurts :)

I have a DD who is like Wallace's. We know a boy who is smaller than DD, and he is almost 7.
