What time does your toddler wake up?

Please help solve an argument in our house.

DS is 18 mo and wakes up crying every day about 6am after just 10.5 hrs sleep. Goes to bed and is asleep by 7.30pm. He is still tired when he wakes but refuses to go back to sleep.

Why time do your LO's wake up and how much sleep do they have at night?

Thx

Both usually awake by 5.30, asleep by 7pm in the evening. Both still having a lunchtime nap from about 12-2. DD is 3.7, DS 23m.

Does your DS still have two naps during the day? Waking up crying/yelling in the morning is normal at 18m - they generally grow out of it by 2.

Ds has just one nap at midday for 1-1.5 hours.

What I am trying to decipher is roughly how much sleep most LOs get?

Thanks ZuelikaD

DD is 17mo and normally sleeps 8:30pm-7am with 2 1.5 hour naps in the day.

I found this site useful for sleep info:

DS 2.8 sleeps 8pm - 7.15 ish. But now he is in a bed he doesn't want to get up straight away, he lies in bed and chats / sings / plays for a while. Though strangely does not get out of bed Hmm

21m DD2 goes to bed at 7 and is usually asleep pretty quickly. She usually wakes around 7am - sometimes earlier (she'll often just chatter to herself and sometimes nods off again), somtimes later. If we're home she generally has a morning nap of around 30 minutes and one after lunch of between 1 and 2 hours. If we're out and about she can go without but tends to zonk out after tea and needs to go to bed early.

That table is helpful wandering.

From that I can say that DS generally gets c.12 hours a day inc naps which is at the lower end of the 'averages'.

I think the bit that bugs me is he seems tired - yawning, bags under eyes etc when eating breakfast. But this morning when I went in to try and resettle him he was screaming "up, up!" and as I lent in to his cot pulled himself on to me. Sat down for a cuddle and he pulled off his sleeping bag, threw bunnies back in his cot etc. However, he's often happy to stay in his room so long someone is in with him to have a cuddle.

Bonzo I cannot WAIT for DS to be happy to lie in bed and play.

DH just discussing this am if he's completely normal and we need to just let him get up. Or if it's worth trying to re-settle him until 7am...just wondered what other LOs are doing.

You can prob tell DS is pfb Blush

My youngest has just turned 4 and still wakes every morning between 5am and 6am, doesn't matter what time he goes to bed at. It's driving me mad.

ZuleikaD · 12/11/2012 16:58

I wouldn't bother trying to resettle him - if he's up, he's up.

My 4.9yo is a terrible sleeper. He just doesn't need that much sleep, amd has been like this ever since 9 months old. I kept hoping it was a phase and he'd grow out of it, but he hasn't. He never sleeps beyond 6am, and often is awake well before. We've tried later bedtimes, more exercise, less exercise etc. makes no difference at all. Resigned to it now....

DS1 3.2 is usually up between 6am-6:30, and there is absolutely no keeping him in his room, no 'playing quietly'. He comes in our room, jumps on us, yells 'WAKE UP MUMMY, WAKE UP DADDY!' several times, demands to go downstairs, pulls the covers off, and one morning decided to unspool a toilet roll on to my head when I didn't get up fast enough.

He's usually asleep by 8pm sometimes 8:30. So he gets 10 hours now, and he stopped napping about age 2.5.

2 year old DS has always managed on 10-12 hours inc naps. Is now nearly 3 and since dropping his naps goes to bed like a dream at 7 but has always woken 5:30-6:30. Like others we are resigned to it now.
I will get my revenge when he is a teen.

DD at 22 months has a two hour nap and does 7pm till about 7.15/7.30. Still really needs a nap after lunch, so about 14 hours.

6 or a bit earlier. Dd is 3. She is wide awake and full of beans. Usually goes to wake ds up:) then he wakes me up moaning about her. She might have a nap depending on what we do, activities or big walk, shoppin etc for about 2 hours as she falls asleep in the car to collect ds from school. She goes to bed about 8 or a bit later. Ds is earlier. It's the car driving that messes us up.

It depends on the child though? I always wake early anyway and am irritatingly cheerful and dh is sleepyhead who finds it easy to go back to sleep. I couldn't do that.

I am the sleepyhead in our house and so find it so unbelievably horrible tough to get up at 6am. In my head the world doesn't start until 7am and even 18 months of early mornings my internal body clock is stuck. Sigh.

OK, so I am gleaning from this that DS is very normal. Great ever so slightly upset though as I need to once again shift my expectations!

I'm with MrsJohnDeere, ds1 dropped daytime naps at 15mo, slept from abt 630 or 7 to 5am. He's now nearly 7 and still wakes at 5am and goes to sleep between 730 and 8.
This too will pass!

Ds is nearly 3. Goes to bed at 6 or 7pm and wakes up at about 8am. He used to wake up really early, but we seem to have got lucky these days.
