Have posted on the thread about "When your DD/DS got their first tooth?" and EVERYONE'S little lovely got their first tooth somewhere between 15 weeks (eeek) and 10(ish) months - My DD1 was 19 months before the two little pegs at the bottom decided to emerge - She is now 2 and still only has 12 gnashers (four at front bottom, four at front front, and four at the top and bottom just behind where the "fangs" will go!!) I am not worried, I just wanted to know if there is anyone else who's little cherub didn't get teeth til they were pushing 2!!!? (DD2 seems to be going the same way - 8 months and not a sign!!)

My ds got his first tooth just before his 1st birthday, and now (2 years old this month) he still only has 10 (4 at the front, top and bottom, and 2 molars, right at the back). There are more on the way, but at least he's now old enough to tell me his mouth hurts and to talk about new teeth coming.

I think it's probably genetic - I didn't get my first tooth until nearly one as well. I've been told that it's never a bad thing as they are protected longer in the gum. And it's good that we're all so different

Phew - that feels better - there are others!!! But can anyone match my 19 month record!!? Hee! Hee! Yes, I think it must be genetic too, gladbag, cos I apparentely didn't get my 1st tooth til I was nearly 2 and I didn't have the full set til I was over 4!! I lost my last "milk" tooth at University - aged 18!! I am glad though cos I have great teeth now (if I don't say so myself!! ) - my dental appointments are every year and last about 5 mins - I've never had any work done (filings etc)

Thank you Captain Dippy! My ds was 19 months too! He is now 8 and has only just started to lose his baby teeth! I wasn't too worried cos my dentist told me it was uncommon but not a problem. But it's other people isn't it!!? so many people seem to equate first teeth with some kind of intelligence or developmental advantage and I got extremely tetchy and defensive when people said ''oooh, no teeth yet oh dear...''
Incidentally, ds2 got his teeth bang on schedule but sadly, crap enamel, whereas ds1 with his tardy molars has supersonic strong and healthy chompers! Go figure...

my DS is 21 months and only has 4 teeth! is that normal?

The text book timings of when teeth come through are calculated based on looking at a huge group of children and calculating an average so some are early/"average"/late etc. THere is no such thing as "normal".

Fullmoonfiend - You are my new best friend!! Funny ain't it - they're all so different - I know what you mean about the "ooooh - no teeth!!!?" thing - It is a strange developemental mile stone to judged by, but judge they do - Weird!! Here's to gummy bear toddlers!!

Faeriemum - I am sure that is fine, they'll probably all come through at once (ouch, poor thing!!) Just be glad that he will be in his 20's and have no dental work whatsoever while all his mates are moaning about their fillings etc (I didn't get a tooth til I was 2 and that is defintely the case now and I am so very smug about it!! )

Finally nice to read that other people are in the same bot. My DS is 24 months old and only has 9 teeth. 6 on the top and 3 down the bottom. He looks silly as he can chew - but he is nowhere near the stage that other children are. I have friends and their children have all their teeth.

Sorry should of said my DS is 26 months with 9 teeth. Does anybody have problems with them biting at this age. My DS is going through an awful stage of biting at the moment. At playgroup this morning bit 2 people (one of them was the lady than runs the playgroup). Never known him be this bad.

No problem with biting, but HUGE problem with pushing - especially children smaller than her - She is a real little bossy boots - Her favourite word is "NO!"
