is it ok that my two year old dd does not always extend her index finger when she points? Most of the time she does but on a few occasions she hasn't . Honestly this would not have worried me a few months ago and I never noticed with my ds ( now five) but there has been so much in the media about autism and I read an article about pointing in the doctors surgery the other day . Am prone to worry and am being treated for depression at mo.
Can't find anything on this specifically in the archives.
Also she spends all day going whazzat/whatziz but doesn't always look at me when she asks this and does not always (mostly but not always) point to what she is talking about so there have been a few occasions when I have been clueless what she is on about. Just a normal two year old thing - or a sign of something not being right with her communication ? Language is very good and she understands everything.

From what you've posted she sounds absolutely fine to me. It's fairly common for children who can verbalise what they want to use words instead of pointing to show/ask/tell you things.

If her understanding is good and you have no other concerns about her behaviour then it's highly unlikely IMHO that she is autistic.

If this is your only concern then it sounds like there's nothing to worry about. Two year olds are just like that sometimes!
