Am I getting soppy in my (their) old age?

At our school the Christmas play is done by Reception, Yr1 and Yr2 only. This means that this year was our last year, as ds2 is in yr2, and he had a star part. I managed to persuade my boss to give me a couple of hour's off work so I could go.

Anyway I feel a bit of a veteran at these sort of things, but for the first time today I filled up
Not at ds2 I hasten to add (he was a clock!) but when the choir of angels was singing ...!

I think it's just the thought of them growing up.

I have to bring tissues in to the nativity play. I always think I'll be ok then in starts. The songs give me a lump in my throat.

DD's little 4 yr old face at every Christmas sight brings me to the edge at the moment. Maybe it's my 40 yr old hormones tho'

I went to my ds's first reception nativity play yesterday - it was absolutely lovely, and I certainly got a bit wobbly-lipped when the children started singing. However, I managed to hold back the tears.

However, today was the last(half) day at school, and ds brought home all the lovely christmas things he did at school, including a calendar he'd made. This featured his handprints on a laminated card, together with the following poem, which I attempted to read out loud, but dissolved into tears by the time I got to the last verse:

"There used to be so many
Of my fingerprints to see
On furniture and walls and things
From sticky, grubby me.

But if you stop and think awhile
You'll see I'm growing fast
Those tiny handprints disappear
You can't bring back the past.

So here's a small reminder
To keep not wipe away
Of tiny hands and how they looked
To make you smile someday."

I get all emotional at every milestone, however small, like the day DS1 left nursery, I didn't even make it to the school gates before I started crying I think it's just a parent thing
