11 month old spitting

My 11 month old has started 'blowing raspberries', usually when he has food in his mouth but sometimes when he doesn't. He went through a phase of doing this a few months ago and then stopped. I find it frustrating, not to mention messy, as it really drags out mealtimes. I wonder why he does it and if there is any way I can speed up his passing through this phase.

Is he doing it because he enjoys the feel of it? Does he enjoy watching you get grossed out by him doing this? Try ignoring it and he should give it up after a while when the amusment factor has gone.

Ds did this at about the same age and it lasted about 3 weeks.

My DD does this too, she's been doing it for about 5 months now, (she's 13m). I know it's messy but it's a good thing (honest!), another little milestone. He's learning about sounds and it is all part of his pre-speech training ! Try not to let it bother you.

dd and ds did the same. didn't last very long. I think they are just experimenting. better just ignoring it. If you make a fuss about it, it might have the opposite effect. Anyway, when this phase is over they get on to something else. Ds currently going through stage making himself sick by putting his fingers down his throat.

Thanks for your input - I have been trying to ignore it so let's hope he moves on to the next stage soon. I don't think I'll be too upset if he skips the fingers down the throat stage though
