Skill generalisation

Recently ds has made some major progress but he doesnt seem to generalise the skills and I was wondering mostly out of curiosity rather than concern how typical this is. He is able to walk around the coffee table and couch at our house but not at sil. He has managed to scramble forward to reach a nearby toy but only in the lounge, he has pulled himself up to stand using the bath but nothing else, he is able to walk/stumble behind a table toy thing but not his ride on or trolley or anything else. Oh and how long do you think it will take him to work out that if he keeps at the pulling himself forward thing he can get accross the room, follow me etc.

Not long ! With ds it was all about motivation and when he had his toddler friends around who were already walking and could take his toys away from him he soon got the hang of it !

it sounds fairly normal to me. It is all new to him, so not surprising that he sticks with a few tried and tested things that work at the beginning. how old is he?

I think this is about right - bet he's really proud of himself right now, and in a few days it'll occur to him to try the same with different furniture at your sil's!
