10 yr old wetting himself

My bf's 10 yr old brother is still wetting the bed and his parents don't know what to do anymore. This has happened pretty much all his life. Asked if he has any problems or worries he says he hasnt and appears a very happy, content child. He is a 'little teenager' and thinks he is the coolest thing on this planet and walks like he is 'well hard!' He is a lovely lad but as going to secondary school soon is getting invited over to friends and wants friends over too but we're exhausted of all possible solutions.

as a rule
1in1 1 year olds wet the bed
1 in 2 2 year olds
1 in 3 3 yearolds
1 in 4 4 year olds
1 in 5 5 year olds

etc...

bedwetting at 10 years is NOT that uncommom

even 1 in 100 ADULTS still wet the bed apparently!

Has he been to the Dr?

They have those alarms that go iff when 'wet' and work better with older children than young...

in terms of sleepovers... coud he try drynites Pyjama pants, which do an extra large size for 11 - 15 years

i think that fact that you can even readily buy bedweeting pants in ag 11 - 15 shows the problem is not as unusual as some like to believe!

Oh... i would also go and see a more sympathetic Dr!

the pants are a great idea nanny L, thanks. Not sure if he would wear them though!

His 2 siblings, both older, dont help much, they are always teasing him about it infront of his friends

but next time I see him if he's feeling a bit down about it I will tell him the stats. He might feel a little more reassured about it then.

Please look at bedwetting alarms, they are proven to cure 80-90% of children within 2-5 months.

My son wet until he was 7, using an alarm he was dry within 3 months.

There is lots of information on alarms on www.bedalarms.co.uk

Stitch,

If your son has been dry for 3 years and started wetting again, you should tell the doctor to ensure its not a urine infection or some other problem.

Is he drinking enough? My ds is the same (9) and the nurse at the enuresis clinic has come to the conclusion that he has never drunk enough and so his bladder is not big enough. As a result his bladder cannot hold enough wee to last him through the night. Now DS has to drink 2 large water bottles a day on top of normal drinks and ONLY water after 5pm as other drinks are diuretic.
Has he been referred to an eneuresis clinic? The Dr should do it for you.

It is nice to read that other people have the same problem. My 10 yr daughter has started wetting over the last 3 wks. As some of you have said "it will pass" but it is a real pain in the meantime. The same as you guys there seems to be no reason for it either, all I can do is be there for her.

My 15 year olld wet the bed until a year ago. She used to use pyjama Pants when she went on School trips.
Don't by him an alarm as you can get them free from the enuresis clinics. My daughter was under this clinic until about 6 months ago.
