DD is Penny Amelia, looking for a sibling name. DF hates all of them but it's tough. His suggestions are Luna, Autumn and Talia but I don't think they go with Penny at all. Anyway here goes;
Penny and Susie
Penny and Sadie
Penny and Rose
Penny and Paige
Penny and Amber
Penny and April
Penny and Hazel

Mn would be Eloise, Elodie, Olivia, Annabelle or April or Amber if not used.

Well if he hates them, then I think you need a new list.

If he liked them, id say Amber

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 07:55:38

He is a nightmare when it comes to baby names. He likes the 3 names he picked and that's It. He won't consider any other names at all. Won't even look. Won't try out my suggestions. And he doesn't understand when I say that his suggestions do not match our daughters name!!!!!!!!

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 07:57:24

Tell a lie; he says April and Hazel are 'alright' that's It.

ThatBloodyWoman Wed 26-Feb-14 07:57:41

I like Autumn......

ProfondoRosso Wed 26-Feb-14 07:59:50

I like Sadie best out of your list, and Autumn from his. smile

HyvaPaiva Wed 26-Feb-14 08:00:11

I like Sadie Olivia best from that list BUT I'm not your partner and if he hates them, you can't use them. I hope he starts working with you on this soon.

BulletForMySandwich Wed 26-Feb-14 08:05:29

I like luna best and don't see why it has to 'match' Penny at all?!

CalmTheFarm Wed 26-Feb-14 08:09:15

Autumn is lovely and I like Paige from your list.

Monkeyandanimal Wed 26-Feb-14 08:09:40

I like Susie. It goes well with penny, though tbh, i don't see why it needs to 'go' at all! Susie is really sweet.

Oh, I adore the name Penny! (I am not being helpful am I!).

Of your dh's names I like Luna. I also like Hazel.

Yes, Susie is very sweet, I agree

ThatBloodyWoman Wed 26-Feb-14 08:11:51

I like Susan with Susie as a nn.

ThatBloodyWoman Wed 26-Feb-14 08:12:33

Or Sarah with nn as Sadie.....

Pooka Wed 26-Feb-14 08:13:54

Or Susanna with nickname Susie.

I went to school with a penny who had a sister called Joanna.

wiltingfast Wed 26-Feb-14 08:18:06

You realise the "matching" thing is a completely arbitrary idea you have in your head? To me some of those names don't go at all, Paige for example seems to me a v serious name compared to Penny and Amber is just v different.

Not saying you should pay the slightest attention to how they sound to me btw, I'm just saying others won't think about that at all.

Fwiw, I like Penny and Susie best. And I think Susie Olivia is lovely. I also his Talia.

What's wrong with Penny and Talia? It is no worse/better really than Penny and Amber surely?

Sorry, I just don't really follow why you think your names "match"?

Looking at the list again I actually really like Hazel too. Hazel Eloise!

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 08:18:34

Oooh no I think sibsets have to match! Not like, Christian and Christina, or Jenny and Kenny, but match in style. I know a Richard and Zain sibset and It always baffles me. The names are so so different in style, It sits strange with me. Like I would have had Richard and Thomas, 2 strong old fashioned names, or Zain and Lex, 2 new trendy names, for example. That's why I'm not sure on a traditional sweet Penny and brand fire new Luna.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude Wed 26-Feb-14 08:22:36

Penny and Sadie or Susie. Susanna is nice if you wanted a "grown up" alternative for formal, and there's nothing wrong with Susan, either.

RiverTam Wed 26-Feb-14 08:26:14

I don't get that a lot of the names on your list 'go' with Penny?

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 08:33:37

If the names on my list don't go with Penny, would you mind posting some suggestions. I understand that our perception of names is totally subjective, and how one person hears a name can be totally different to the next person, but posting on a forum asking the opinions of a diverse group of people will at least get me a general consensus of what people think about the names I like

Theonlyoneiknow Wed 26-Feb-14 08:36:13

What about Natalie nn Talia?

OneMoreThenNoMore Wed 26-Feb-14 08:39:30

I like Susie and Rose, but my favourite is Luna. I think it sounds really good with Penny. smile

Wineandchoccy Wed 26-Feb-14 08:49:07

From your list I like Susie and Sadie and I like Luna from your DH list.

Josephine - josie
Olivia - Livvy
Matilda - Tilly

manicinsomniac Wed 26-Feb-14 09:59:41

From your list I love Sadie and Amber and like April and Rose.
From your partner's list I like Autumn

Other names that might 'go' with Penny:
Alice, Agnes, Annie, Ada, Bonnie, Bella, Betsy, Betty, Connie, Callie, Clara, Cora, Cecily, Daisy, Dora, Emma, Elsie, Elsa, Edith, Edie, Esme, Eliza, Esther, Faye, Flora, Faith, Grace, Hope, Hallie, Helen, Heidi, Hannah, Isla, Iris, Ivy, Isobel, Josie, Joy, Jessie, Katie, Kitty, Lily, Lucy, Leah, Libby, Lottie, Lois, Lydia, Louisa, Mary, Molly, Millie, Minnie, Martha, Maisie, Nina, Nora, Nancy, Nell, Olive, Ruby, Rosie, Rosa, Sara, Sophie, Sally, Saffy, Sylvie, Tammy, Una, Verity, Valerie, Vita, Willa, Wendy, Yvette, Zoe.

BetterWithCheese Wed 26-Feb-14 10:20:36

I quite like Luna and I see it as quite a gentle name. I think the suggestions up thread of Matilda/Tilly and Josephine/Josie are great and really go with Penny. I think from your list Susie goes best.

Lottystar Wed 26-Feb-14 10:52:18

Why not choose one of each of your lists, like Autumn Rose (very pretty) or Talia Paige, perhaps you will find agreement that way? Otherwise I'd grab a baby name book and every night go through a few pages together, find a new name entirelysmile

Namethischildplease Wed 26-Feb-14 10:55:26

I really don't understand the obsession I often hear on here about siblings matching. Why on earth should they? They are only ever heard together with any regularity in childhood. It seems a bit like claiming couples should have names s that match in style to me. confused

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 11:26:43

Well yeah can't pick your partners name can you so that makes that point moot. The reason I think names should match is because for pretty much your entire life, you'll be saying those 2 names together. If you talk about your children you say 'I've got 2 girls, penny and **' so they need to compliment each other. In a similar way to how when you name your child, you pick a name you like the sound of. It makes no difference to your child, their personality or how you will raise them, you just pick a name that sounds nice when you say it. Making sure sibling names sound nice together is them same thing, imo anyway.

UriGeller Wed 26-Feb-14 11:30:52

I like Susannah, (your 'Susie')
And it goes well with Penelope

But arent Susie and Penny characters off of Balamory? If not, it sounds like they are..

I'd say Rosa. Or Rosa which I think is a bit sweeter than Rose.

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 11:34:44

Yes penny and susie work together in the shop on balamory! Not sure if that puts me off or not hmm

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 11:40:29

Sibset?! Did you invent that term OP?

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 11:41:51

Ok so your children are a 'set'

Penny and Farthing?
Penny and Lope?
Penny and Jenny?
Penny and Polly?

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 11:56:05

No I didn't invent it, it's commonly used on other baby naming sites, I believe it's 'set of siblings' imo it makes posting on forums much quicker iyswim smile I'm not sure if you've read the full thread fideline but I've given a couple of examples of what I mean by matching names and all of your 'suggestions' are things I said I did not want, Not to mention quite silly, a waste of time, and almost looking for an argument.

MimiSunshine Wed 26-Feb-14 11:57:33

I know what you mean about matching as such but more of a similar vein. The example of Richard and Zain seems odd to me too.

So if your DD is Penny and not Penelope, the former which some would say is a nickname name (IYSWIM) then i'd go for similar with DD2. That way its not like you gave one a "proper" name and not the other.

So off your list i'd say Susie (Annabelle) and off DH list i'd say Talia (Rose but it is the Louise / Jane of its day)

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 12:02:57

Exactly mimi, as DD is Penny not penelope I would never use Florence, but could use flora, for example. I would only use rose as a first name because of its popularity now as a middle name.

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 12:05:52

Well if you are serious confused then I think you should re-read what wilting contributed

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Wed 26-Feb-14 12:06:17

Penny and Elysia
Penny and Melissa
Penny and Sophia
Penny and Zoe

Of the names you mentioned I'd probably go for Talia or Thalia and Susie.

Allalonenow Wed 26-Feb-14 12:07:27

If your baby is born in April, then I think that would be a lovely name for her.
I'm not keen on your husband's selection, especially Autumn for a spring or summer baby.

AGoodPirate Wed 26-Feb-14 12:18:57

I would cross off any names that end in an ee sound myself. Two together sound too cute cute. Penny and Sadie - saccharine.
(Ok. That's my crazy naming rule I made up in my head but I do believe it!)
I like Rose best with Penny. Second favourite is actually Luna. Sorry! I think Luna goes really well! Then Hazel probably.

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 12:19:56

I read wiltings contribution, which at least answered my post, and gave a name from my list, and I answered by asking any posters that don't think my name suggestions matched Penny, could they please give me some alternatives that did match. I couldn't really be bothered to mention that the whole naming process of a baby is always arbitrary. We pick names based on feelings and preferences, not strategically or logically, which is what exactly what being arbitrary is.

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 12:24:39

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I don't want to show DF that luna is looking very popular and having to eat my words haha. I do love Sadie. And I think I'm liking April more and more, which is good as DF says it's 'alright'! I used to think of little old ladies when I thought of April but I think I've shook it off now!

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 12:26:36

I thought it was 'tough' if the baby's father didn't like the names?

Note to self, stop feeding the bridgedweller

AmysTiara Wed 26-Feb-14 12:26:50

Autumn is lovely

Breezy1985 Wed 26-Feb-14 12:32:31

Out of all the names I'd pick Autumn.

My 2 DC names don't go, DS is top 10 very traditional, DD I've never met anyone else with the name and begins with the dreaded K. MW commented how different the names were once I named DS.

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 12:38:09

I think when it came down to it, I'd feel guilty naming a baby something DF didn't like. I'm hoping he comes round to names I like or vice versa! Breezy did the comments bother you at all?

Namethischildplease Wed 26-Feb-14 12:44:33

I have two children and am expecting a third. I rarely say their names together. Maybe, as you gave in your example, when introducing myself. Maybe when calling them together at a park or something. Generally, I am using one name or the other. Especially now one is at school.

And you seem to have missed my point about couples having matching names. Of course you can choose a child's name and not a partner's. My point is that the mere fact you can choose the name isn't the same as a reason why you must choose names that match. There is no more logic to requiring matching sibling names than thinking your name should go with that of a potential partner.

I don't have anything against people wanting a similar style of name. I can understand that, if your first child is Elizabeth it is unlikely you'll call your next daughter Bailey. But I just don't think that matching needs to be the primary consideration. And I'm with other posters who say that most of your list doesn't 'match' to my ears any more than your husband's. Sure, say, 'first daughter is Penny and I like names in that style', just like music or books we often like the same styles. I just don't think it's a reason to rule out a name you both like if you find one.

Of the list, I quite like Sadie and April. Otherwise maybe think of nicknames from other traditional names: Lizzie, Flora/Flossie, Katy, etc.

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 12:56:03

"I think when it came down to it, I'd feel guilty naming a baby something DF didn't like."

I'm still wondering if this thread is a half-term wind-up but assuming it isn't Feel guilty? Why would you do it at all? Surely he should get an equal say?

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 13:17:16

Oh my god fideline why do you care! He's not your partner. Maybe you haven't experienced the sheer frustration of an other half with totally different naming style to yourself and not as much interest in poring over names. In that case you're lucky. I thought my post made it clear that when it came down to it I'd feel too guilty making the decision myself... ie I wouldn't go through with it. I'm honestly not sure why you are here? You're not really posting anything helpful to my original question, and you're jumping at everything I say for a fight? Why? It's half term, go to the park, go get some food, visit friends. Don't waste your time on a thread that has no significance in your life. I'm hovering in the hope to get opinions and such on my name suggestions. What are you doing?

CoffeeChocolateWine Wed 26-Feb-14 13:22:12

Fwiw, I think Penny and Talia 'go' beautifully together, but don't get too hung up on whether they match. I also like Amber and Hazel. Not keen on the others.

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 13:24:17

I'm trying to work out whether you are for real or not. Actually DH and I have a bet on it

I cannot believe that someone so twee is also so contemptuous of their boyfriend's opinion on something so important.

Unless you are Beverley from Abigail's Party. Which would explain everything.

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 13:26:27

fideline Wed 26-Feb-14 13:27:03

I knew it! Thanks for coming clean smile

emmyloo2 Wed 26-Feb-14 13:27:32

Totally understand what you mean by names having to match. I had the same argument with my DH when we were naming our second child. My DS is George and so I wanted an old fashioned name to match. He suggested some more modern names for our DD and didn't understand why they didn't match. I always find it odd when names are a different style but for a lot of people it doesn't matter.

So his names don't match - I agree. From your list I love Susie and Sadie and Hazel. I considered all three for my DD. I probably like Hazel the most and it's fabulous with Penny. What about Audrey, Harriet, Catherine, Louisa, Maggie, Elsie, Elizabeth, Marion...??

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 13:31:21

Thanks emmy. It seems we are a rare breed though! Oooh I do like Maggie... can we cope with another name added to the mix?!

Nocomet Wed 26-Feb-14 13:31:41

The thing is real people affect the way you see names.

The only Penny I know is very arty so Penny and the slightly hippy Autumn is a perfect pairing.

wiltingfast Wed 26-Feb-14 13:34:43

Hah, you were a bit manic! Should have copped it wink

Babel1111 Wed 26-Feb-14 13:41:31

Someone suggested ivy, that's nice, but breaks the 'ee' ending rule. I wish babies came with a tag on them that told you their names haha

looki Wed 26-Feb-14 15:09:23

I like Talia from your partner's list and Sadie from yours.

That said, if you don't agree then look for a new list and I honestly don't believe sibling names have to 'go' - within reason of course.
