Which do you prefer?

SS3J Sun 12-Jan-14 18:07:04

I really like them both. Not helpful, sorry!

sublimecorpse Sun 12-Jan-14 18:08:15

Ezra, Arlo looks and sounds incomplete to me. No idea why!

MoreSkyThanWeNeed Sun 12-Jan-14 18:12:31

Both gorgeous - slightly prefer Arlo.

Rhubarbgarden Sun 12-Jan-14 18:35:28

Neither, sorry.

Arlo

Ezra just seems to feminine for a boy's name to me. I don't like it.

DessieLou Sun 12-Jan-14 18:36:37

I've always loved Ezra so that gets my vote!

ViviDeBeauvoir Sun 12-Jan-14 18:40:39

I like both but Ezra sounds feminine to me too.

Jinty16 Sun 12-Jan-14 18:51:23

Ezra

MollyBerry Sun 12-Jan-14 18:53:03

I prefer Arlo even though I normally like z in names

Puffykins Sun 12-Jan-14 18:53:33

Ezra.

98percentchocolate Sun 12-Jan-14 18:56:10

I love Arlo!

DitsyDonkey Sun 12-Jan-14 18:57:22

It's interesting that people see Ezra as being feminine....it must be the a ending!

I have to say I love both equally, and when weighing them up, both names have as many pros as cons!

MrsSteptoe Sun 12-Jan-14 18:57:52

Arlo. Definitely.

niknak888 Sun 12-Jan-14 19:03:58

Ezra, great name!

redsquareyellowsquare Sun 12-Jan-14 19:17:59

Love them both but I think Arlo is bit too trendy atm, so would vote Ezra

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 12-Jan-14 19:19:16

Ezra.

Rollermum Sun 12-Jan-14 19:22:59

Ezra is fab.

Squeakybeaky Sun 12-Jan-14 19:23:24

I like this post. I have an Arlo and if I have another boy Ezra is on the list! So I vote for both of them :0)

DitsyDonkey Sun 12-Jan-14 19:26:32

Oh squeakybeaky, do you get good reactions to his name? Arlo and Ezra would make a FANTASTIC sibset!

YouLoveItDoreen Sun 12-Jan-14 19:29:17

Ezra gets my vote!

Bakerof3pudsxx Sun 12-Jan-14 19:29:23

Arlo

Another saying Ezra seems female

Squeakybeaky Sun 12-Jan-14 19:29:42

Um I've had a few blank looks when I've said his name and a few usual 'how do you spell that' but overall reaction has been good. I love it and I think that's all that counts really.

Rosencrantz Sun 12-Jan-14 20:20:13

Ezra because of Ezra Chater. Love Tom Stoppard.

MavisGrind Sun 12-Jan-14 20:22:44

I have an Arlo (waves at Squeakybeaky )and always get a good reaction. I didn't realise it was popular (certainly isn't here!)

Squeakybeaky Sun 12-Jan-14 21:02:09

Hi Mavis, don't think it is popular but is getting a little more popular. sad I love it!

WowserBowser Sun 12-Jan-14 21:10:04

I have an Arlo too! And Ezra was on our list.

I think Arlo is only well known on MN!

RoseHoney Sun 12-Jan-14 21:28:01

How strange I was just asking OH the same question! Both are lovely but I did know a lady with a daughter called Ezra which kinda makes me think it's too feminine. My eldest sons name ends in an A though so don't think it's the a ending.
I'm leaning towards Arlo but I think both are gorgeous names! smile

JanePurdy Sun 12-Jan-14 22:48:21

Ezra.

RiojaHaze Sun 12-Jan-14 22:52:57

I have an Arlo too and he's the only one around here!

So that gets my vote too grin

Vikkijayne2507 Sun 12-Jan-14 23:26:20

ezra as arlo sounds like how people from Harlow say it

HopeS01 Mon 13-Jan-14 10:28:04

Ezra! How on earth can people ask how you spell it? It's a wonderful biblical name and not at all feminine

KLou1105 Mon 13-Jan-14 12:11:51

I like both, is it for a boy or girl? I prefer Arlo for boy and Ezra for girl x

perfectview Mon 13-Jan-14 12:15:42

You can't call a girl Ezra! It is a boy's name and lovely with it.

DitsyDonkey Mon 13-Jan-14 12:18:03

It's for a boy! I like Polly for a girl or Juno.

cryhavoc Mon 13-Jan-14 12:23:33

I like Arlo best.

HomeHelpMeGawd Mon 13-Jan-14 12:28:14

Ezra is from the Hebrew root E-Z-R which means "help".

Arlo means "barberry tree".

Maybe this will help you make up your mind?

DitsyDonkey Tue 14-Jan-14 19:13:19

I'm not overly bothered by the meanings once it doesn't mean something awful!

Oh I still don't know! They are both fabulous names! grin

WowserBowser Wed 15-Jan-14 18:14:29

They are! So you can't lose really.

mrsgumpy Wed 15-Jan-14 20:12:16

I prefer Ezra.

What about Otto? (my current favourite boy's name)

DitsyDonkey Wed 15-Jan-14 20:33:09

Mrsgrumpy....Otto was previously on my list.....don't really know why I discounted it hmm probably the bad influence of my dh!

Secretlypregnant Thu 16-Jan-14 04:46:21

Same as Vikkijayne, I can't take Arlo seriously at all, sorry. I've got relatives from Harlow and with an Essex accent the two words sound exactly the same. My Essex cousin couldn't believe it was a real name when he heard someone calling for their son recently.

Also, personal opinion, I think it sounds a bit pretentious. So I'd go for Ezra.

nooka Thu 16-Jan-14 05:40:34

We were going to have an Ezzie, so I vote for Ezra too. My sister had a boyfriend called Ivo, which I prefer to Arlo, although it's a bit nicknamish.

2blessed Thu 16-Jan-14 05:44:47

I have always loved Ezra

Astralabe Fri 17-Jan-14 13:13:56

Where are you? I live in Bristol and know a few Arlos - heard it being used in the park a few times too. We were going to use it if first had been a boy though, so I do like it.

Wallpaper123 Fri 17-Jan-14 13:44:43

Arlo is nicer, but they are both good. Depends on how they chime with the surname.

HyvaPaiva Fri 17-Jan-14 13:48:52

I like them both! I can't decide.

Arlo. It's nicer to say. Ridiculous reason, but the only way I could decide!

WowserBowser Sat 18-Jan-14 12:32:05

Astralabe I live in the North West and people always comment on how unusual Arlo is. I was talking to someone the other day and i said it's popular in Bristol. My DH looked at me like i was crazy.

DitsyDonkey Sat 18-Jan-14 16:31:44

Both go well with our surname. I'm in Ireland so i very much doubt there is even one Arlo or Ezra over here I'm sure I will get lots of hmm and confused

Arlo is starting to get popular in America....useless bit of info for you there.....and Johny Knoxville even named his daughter Arlo....more useless info.....and your one from Muriel's Wedding has a ds called Arlo....I will get my coat now! blush

Ihatepeas Sat 18-Jan-14 19:15:13

Another who thinks Ezra is a bit feminine, I think its the 'a' ending. I don't actually dislike it though.

I really like Arlo!

toobreathless Sat 18-Jan-14 19:36:40

Arlo at a push but love them both.

mrsgumpy Sat 18-Jan-14 20:57:52

Really surprised that some people think Ezra sounds feminine. I have known only male Ezras so the idea of a girl being called Ezra is bizarre to me.

Ezra. Not mad on Arlo but I like Milo if that helps!

Lottiedoubtie Sat 18-Jan-14 21:12:20

Argo by a country mile.

Ezra is not a good name if you've ever seen/read Mojo (butterworth). I realise that's quite tenuous, but ive never met an Ezra in RL so that's the only frame of reference I have!

Lottiedoubtie Sat 18-Jan-14 21:12:39

Argh! Sorry Arlo of course!

MrsBungle Sat 18-Jan-14 21:17:04

I prefer arlo. Like others have said Ezra sounds feminine to me.

dimdommilpot Sat 18-Jan-14 22:42:04

Ezra would be on my boys list but we have an Esmé. Arlo is on there as well as Asa. Im not mich help, i love them both.

Misspilly88 Mon 20-Jan-14 21:00:14

I love these names. IMO Ezra would be better when he is a grown up. Arlo cute for child.

Astralabe Mon 20-Jan-14 22:30:12

He he wowser - I think you should go for it then with Arlo! X

LittleYellowDuck Tue 21-Jan-14 07:43:45

Love Arlo ,had it on my short list for second baby

IsabellaRockerfeller Tue 21-Jan-14 07:55:06

I don't like the name Arlo, but then I am from Essex and it just sounds like "'Arlow" to me!

Ezra is great!
