Any ideas on unique boys names? Not weird ones, nice strong names that aren't that common but not 'way out there'!! lol

OhCaptainDarling Sat 11-Jan-14 17:18:07

Watching with interest as I'm currently looking for the same thing!

MoonHare Sat 11-Jan-14 18:14:50

Well they're not unique but how about;

Wyatt
Jasper
Griffin
Boyd
Emmett
Caspar
Rohan

Draco, Hendrick, Hunter, Jackson, Cain, Shannon, Sonny, River

AuntieStella Sat 11-Jan-14 18:22:12

Is Lol (nn for Laurence?) the name you're asking us to comment on?

If so, it's OK.

For unique, you'd need to create a name.

Less common names: Nigel, Ian, Jeremy, Roy, Simon, Neil, Roderick, Kevin, Colin?

obviouslyneedsupernanny Sat 11-Jan-14 18:23:10

Roman?

youbethemummylion Sat 11-Jan-14 18:26:36

Note I probably wouldn't be brave enough to use these myself but
Emmett
Roman
Emerson
Porter
Rafferty

Playdoughcaterpillar Sat 11-Jan-14 18:42:08

David.
How many kids do you know called David?
I've never come across one.
Robert?
Paul? Phillip?
Think of who you went to school with!

cece Sat 11-Jan-14 18:44:18

Ironically it appears to me that the more 'unique' one tries to be the more likely it is to chose the most popular names in the area.

I have only taught 2 Johns in 20 years. No Nicholas or Andrews.

drspouse Sat 11-Jan-14 18:45:37

In our fairly small toddler acquaintance I know a Caleb, and I also know a young teenage girl called Cory.

I also know some toddler Maxs (more than one) and an Edward.

lensbabyd Sat 11-Jan-14 20:04:58

I have an Anatoly. He was nearly Victor or Ivan.
He is Tolly for short.

fruitpastille Sat 11-Jan-14 20:06:14

I know a David, Robert and Paul! Age 6 and under.

TheBigBumTheory Sat 11-Jan-14 20:06:59

Malachi

Ohhelpohnoitsa Sat 11-Jan-14 20:12:31

Carsten. I love it but it is too similar to both mine & dhs names.

Ohhelpohnoitsa Sat 11-Jan-14 20:15:48

& Eric, Eli, Abe, Dominic. I love lots of names, Ivan (though I like the EU pronunciation better "eee van)

meisiemee Sat 11-Jan-14 20:23:41

Loving Griffin

nichib83 Sat 11-Jan-14 20:23:56

No, lol was meant to be laugh out loud! :-D

I have a Dylan, Rory and a Max...so Cory is out!! There is a few on here that I really like. Dh is quite fussy and all the things I like, he isn't that keen on!! Carsten is nice, never heard that before. Don't really like David etc...not that they're not nice names, just that I'm not really into very traditional names if that makes sense. This is soooo hard!!

sleepingbeautiful Sat 11-Jan-14 20:35:14

Well you can't have 'unique' unless you make one up, but less used suggestions:
Corbin, Evan, Henson, Jed, Lorne, Jeremy, Robin, Saul, Simeon, Solomon, Isaiah, Peter, Ralph, Richard, Ray, Dane, Zane, Beau, Giles, Miles, Austin, Riordan, Heath, Linden, Lyndon, Leighton, Brody, Gregory

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland Sat 11-Jan-14 20:45:45

Caleb is really popular here, I know at least 4 boys under the age of 7 with that name.

Jonah is also really popular.

I like Diggory, Tristan and Sebastian.

Britishseamonkey Sat 11-Jan-14 21:26:45

Know at least 2:
Malachi
Max
Edward
Eric/Erik
Lucas
Luca
Alexander
Jonah
Jonas

A coupke of them even have a 'trying to be unusual but chose wrong' vibe to them IMO - albeit all really lovely names and actually who cares if someone else has the same name really?

What about Evan Alan Curtis Angus
Keir
Timothy
Samson
Donald
Brett
Greg
Peter
Kiel
Colm
Robin. ( I live Robin but was vetoed)

Britishseamonkey Sat 11-Jan-14 21:28:03

Ps- to prove no offence meant I have a Max! X

marceline Sat 11-Jan-14 22:13:29

Taliesin - very old Welsh name. I love it.

muttonjeffmum Sat 11-Jan-14 22:18:32

I like soontobe Dylan, Rory, Max and Fergus combination. Dylan and Rory both have a celtic feel to them so Fergus goes perfectly. I just adore the name Rory - great choice.

One other thing to do is check the names you are thinking of in last year's baby names list... Lots of the ones on here I bet are in the top 100. It sounds like you don't want that if you want unusual.

nichib83 Sun 12-Jan-14 21:16:50

Oh, thank you, you lovely ladies!! I have a lot of choice! Thanks for replying smile X

I have a Caspar and a Jeffrey. Jeffrey was after an elder family member, and partnered with a middle name of James (also after another family member) which gave him the nickname jj. But he prefers being called Jeffrey.

Caspar was after a character in a book I read whilst pregnant.

I wanted

Angel
Adrian
Xander
Marcus
Luther
Oscar

But dh vetoed them!

drspouse Mon 13-Jan-14 21:46:40

There's a Septimus in my family tree. You don't see many of those these daysgrin .

VivaLeBeaver Mon 13-Jan-14 21:48:31

Tedbar

AngelaDaviesHair Tue 14-Jan-14 10:14:34

I see you Septimus, drspouse and raise you Theophilus!

drspouse Tue 14-Jan-14 10:25:13

I think you win Angela!

I was dying to have 6 more children so we can have a Septimus but I feel much better now as we could call a second DS Theophilus. What about a girl though... there's the dilemma... Can you have Theophila? I suppose there's always Theodora but that's not quite the same.

I loved all three of these but DH vetoed...

Mim78 Tue 14-Jan-14 15:14:34

I quite liked Ivan at one stage in pregnancy.
