Hi all,

Please could you help us narrow down our girls list...we still have a few weeks, but I'm finding it very difficult already! Honest opinions most welcome! smile

DH also said this morning that he likes Olivia, and when I mentioned Alice he said that one was nice too. So my list seems to be getting longer, not shorter!

Many thanks for any feedback! smile

IsabellaRockerfeller Thu 26-Dec-13 09:16:00

I really like Erin and Alice.

I'm not a fan of american sounding names so don't like aimee, alyssa, chelsea, paige, payton or reece.

SS3J Thu 26-Dec-13 11:47:13

Imogen, Emma, Emily and Alice get my votes! Erin is also ok but really not keen in the others.

Bowlersarm Thu 26-Dec-13 11:49:18

Emily, Emma, Imogen, Olivia all lovely.

ToffeeJungle Thu 26-Dec-13 11:52:15

Top three - Emma,.Erin, Olivia

Worst three - Payton, Chelsea,.Paige

Not keen on Reese (boys name), the others are ok.

InfiniteJest Thu 26-Dec-13 12:29:52

Emma or Alice, I think. Both very pretty!

secretsofsanta Thu 26-Dec-13 12:32:35

Only like Imogen, Erin, alice and olivia

I like Alyssa, Erin, Imogen,Paige and Olivia.

Coconutty Thu 26-Dec-13 20:13:46

Emily is ok.

sleepingbeautiful Thu 26-Dec-13 20:18:52

Really dislike Reese, Peyton and Chelsea. They seem a bit faddy and the kind of names thaAt don't translate well culturally between US and UK.
Meh about Imogen. I just don't like how the word sounds :p
Like the others a lot, especially Aimee, Alyssa, Emma and Erin.

BonnieWeeJeannieMcCall Thu 26-Dec-13 22:00:41

Peyton and Reese can be boys names; does that matter to you?

Aimee would face a lifetime of spelling out her name; does that matter to you?

Personally, from your list I like Imogen, Emily, Alice and Olivia best. And Aimee, spelled Amy.

IndigoTea Thu 26-Dec-13 22:06:28

Emily smile

Thants Thu 26-Dec-13 22:07:41

Reese is nice. The others are not imo

Hassled Thu 26-Dec-13 22:09:31

Alyssa, Emily, Emma and Imogen are the nicest. I like Emma lots.

tiamariaxxx Thu 26-Dec-13 22:09:43

My fave name of your list is Paige, i know its not everyones cup of tea but i really like it its my youngests middle name. I also really like Aimee.

Aimee Paige sounds really nice in my opinion

Clarabumps Thu 26-Dec-13 22:10:05

Really dislike Paige Peyton Chelsea and Reese. The rest are all nice. Alice or Imogen being the nicest.

Clarabumps Thu 26-Dec-13 22:10:43

Emma is lovely!

TheBuskersDog Thu 26-Dec-13 22:12:30

Agree with others, no to the american sounding names and Amy not Aimee. My favourite is probably Erin, also like Amelia.

PenguinsDontEatStollen Thu 26-Dec-13 22:12:53

Aimee - ok
Alyssa - not keen
Amelia - nice enough, but super popular at the moment, if that matters to you
Chelsea - not keen
Emily - Nice
Emma - Nice
Erin - Ok
Imogen - Really like
Keira - not keen
Paige - really dislike
Peyton- really dislike
Reese - really dislike, and would assume a boy.

Alice and Olivia are nice too.

Obviously all just personal taste though. There is nothing 'wrong' with any of them.

I would say that they are quite different in style though. Amelia, Imogen, Alice, etc are all quite classic, traditional names.

Names like Peyton, Reese, etc are more unusual and 'marmite'. Some people will react really strongly against them. Some will love them.

mumtoone Thu 26-Dec-13 22:13:22

My preferences are...
Imogen, Emily, Emma, Olivia, Alice

I'm really not keen on ...
Payton, Reese, Paige, Keira

AnyFuckerWillDo Thu 26-Dec-13 22:18:32

Love Emma, Classic. No way to Chelsea!!!

Puffykins Thu 26-Dec-13 22:25:31

Or Paige.

Nocomet Thu 26-Dec-13 22:28:58

You have my DD and name of their class 'character' in your list grin

cece Thu 26-Dec-13 22:29:56

Olivia - to go on short list
Alice - short list also
Aimee - no
Alyssa - no
Amelia - short list
Chelsea - definitely no
Emily - short list
Emma - short list
Erin - short list
Imogen - short list
Keira - no
Paige - no
Peyton - definitely no
Reese - definitely no

I always found having a short list of 3 or 4 names to choose from the best approach and then decide once baby arrives.

AmysMummy14 Thu 26-Dec-13 23:28:02

Aimee - If this was spelt properly then YES. This spelling NO.
Alyssa - NMS.
Amelia - I love Amy as a NN for this. - I love this name.
Chelsea/Paige - I find these 2 a little dated.
Emily - I love this name also.
Emma - Cute I like this.
Erin - It's ok. NMS though.
Imogen - I love this name.
Keira - I love this.
Peyton/Reese - NO.

SashaOfSiberia Fri 27-Dec-13 01:22:51

I really like Reese, I considered it for my DD, I think unisex names can be really chic and strong, I have one and so does my DD (just not Reese).

I think that Alyssa, Paige, Chelsea and Keira have all become a bit tired and maybe quite dated. These are names I was hearing often maybe 8-12 years ago. I wouldn't say discount them for that reason but its something to consider.

Alice, Erin, Emma, Emily, Aimee and Amelia are all what I'd describe as really bland safe names. They are everyman/woman names. Amelia was the most popular name for 2012, and may stay that way for 2013, so if you're uncertain or not ones for being different then these are great. I suppose they are nice enough, pleasant type names but a bit soulless in my opinion.

Peyton reminds me too much of One Tree Hill but thats just a personal thing. It is quite new and American sounding but as far as I know is an old name. I like it although wouldn't have used it for reasons given.

Imogen is a really beautiful name and I can't say a bad word about it, like Reese.

sleepingbeautiful Fri 27-Dec-13 03:22:27

Reese is a mis-spelling of Rhys. It is also a brand of cheap chocolate in North America; the kind the EU would ban from using the title chocolate due to lack of actual chocolate in comparison to vegetable oil etc.

bugoven Fri 27-Dec-13 03:33:26

I love Emma and Alice. Top of my girls' names list =)

TheZeeTeam Fri 27-Dec-13 03:36:50

Payton is very unpopular on here. That said, the 17 yo Payton I know is literally the coolest, funniest and kindest girl I've ever met. She is a friend of Ds1 and rocks her name.

So, I choose Payton!

TheZeeTeam Fri 27-Dec-13 03:39:28

Btw, re spelling. Isn't Peyton the masculine spelling? Peyton Manning?!

NadiaWadia Fri 27-Dec-13 05:17:04

Emily and Imogen are lovely.

Reese is awful - for a girl.

JuniorMint Fri 27-Dec-13 10:13:53

Erin and Alice are top of my short list!

Aimee - Not keen.
Alyssa - Like it.
Amelia - Not my style.
Chelsea - Not overly keen.
Paige - It's ok. .
Emily - Don't like it very much.
Emma - Cute.
Erin - Love this one! It's pretty
Imogen - Love it! Wish OH agreed with me on this one grin
Keira - It's ok. Doesn't jump out at me.
Peyton - It's quite nice. I like American names though.
Reese - I actually quite like it but you'd always get "witherspoon?" questions.

brokenhearted55a Fri 27-Dec-13 18:09:00

Imogen Alice is a nice name.

Peyton is the worst.

brokenhearted55a Fri 27-Dec-13 18:09:37

Reese reminds me of the Reeses peanut butter cups

MrsPatMustard Fri 27-Dec-13 19:01:03

Best piece of advice I ever heard when naming girls was to pick a name that suits both a small girl and the woman that girl could grow up to be. Anything too cutesy will sound really silly on a 21 year old trying to be taken seriously in a professional career. Not keen on Aimee/Amy for that reason - a bit of a 'young' name, doesn't sit so well on an adult.

Also not keen on Peyton/Reese - sound a bit naff. (Sorry)

Hate Chelsea (but this is because I used to be a teacher and one of the vilest classroom bullies I ever taught was a Chelsea - has really negative associations for me.)

Alice is lovely - really pretty and classy
Emma and Olivia also nice.

Tibby2 Sun 29-Dec-13 21:03:36

Emily or olivia

Lainybug23 Sat 11-Jan-14 12:32:58

HyvaPaiva Sat 11-Jan-14 12:36:24

Erin is beautiful

twinklestar2 Sat 11-Jan-14 12:42:44

I like Alyssa and then Erin.

What about Alicia?

sazzle30 Sat 11-Jan-14 15:02:47

I love the name Olivia. If a friend hadn't recently used this name for her little girl I would have used it for ours. It's so beautiful.

Good luck deciding. It's such a big decision isn't it! x

Britishseamonkey Sun 12-Jan-14 09:54:00

Amelia Olivia and Emily all very popular names at the moment. Doesn't have to be a bad thing per say but might help to rule them out when your list is so long. Erin also gaining popularity

From you list I like Aimée ( of you use it please use the accent!!! Its s french n'aime so do it the french Way lol!) doesn't sound americam to me - amie is American IMO

Also like Emma and Keira

Don't like Payton or Reece at all sorry

Imogen nice but don't like the nns Imo or Immy

miffybun73 Sun 12-Jan-14 10:20:08
