Long frilly girls name to go with lysander

Hello
I am new so please be nice!
If you don't like long or fancy names stop reading now!!

My daughter has an unusual frilly girls name like Arabella (don't want this to be google able)and my son is called Lysander.

Pregnant with a girl. Always loved Cassandra - wanted similarly classic/ faux arisocratic/ Shakespearian/ Greek themed name. Then realised the 'sand' sound is exactly like Lysander. Also love Ariadne but too close to daughters name.

Husband likes Genevieve but the 'Jen' nickname isn't very exciting.

Any ideas? Also like perdita but don't love it enough.

Thanks ! grin

Just thought of Romilly and I love Genevieve as well

SpookedMackerel Sun 01-Dec-13 20:04:20

Cassiopeia?

I came on to suggest Araminta, but now guessing that might be too close to your daughter's name.

dopeysheep Sun 01-Dec-13 20:04:30

Pelagia. Corinna. Athena.although not really 'frilly'.

HarrietVaneAgain Sun 01-Dec-13 20:04:50

Ottaline / Ottalee (sp?) Arraminta, or something like Rosamund / Rosaline. Octavia

MummyBeerest Sun 01-Dec-13 20:04:54

What about Evie as a nn for Genevieve? I love that name.

Other suggestions:
Athena
Aurora
Leda/Leta
Chloe-omg I love this name

dopeysheep Sun 01-Dec-13 20:06:04

Cressida? Although Cressie is a terible nickname. I really like Genevieve.

tilbatilba Sun 01-Dec-13 20:06:57

Don't like Cassandra at all.....adore Euphemie though

CuntyBunty Sun 01-Dec-13 20:09:09

If you like Genevieve why not make up a nn like vivi rather than assume Gen/Jen. DD's nn is based on her real name but we told people what her nn was going to be so (bar my dGM) that's what everyone uses.

The Genevieve I know is called Evie by her friends.

I would also suggest Persephone. I wish I had convinced DH for Persephone when we had DD. (But he hated it and I wouldn't make him name his DD a name he hates)

If you really like frilly names do some investigation on Restoration ones - think the best I've come across (admittedly in an 'we only 'ad one coal t'eat between eighteen childer' type way) was Blowzelinda!! tchgrin

Oh, and congratulations!

My daughter's name is Ariadne.

Names that I also considered:

Ismene (pronounced Is-mee-nee)
Nefeli
Danae (Dan-EYE)

These are perhaps not long and frilly, though!

Then there's:

Cassiopeia
Penelope

And DH suggested:

Alkmene
Cleopatra

I think Priscilla is the frilliest name there is. Or Felicity. But if you are talking poshwise, my faves are Hepzibah and Cosima.

Henrietta

Aurelia or Alethea are pretty.

CuntyBunty Mon 02-Dec-13 18:07:26

Melisande, tzipora?

TheRaniOfYawn Mon 02-Dec-13 22:37:39

If DS had been a girl, he would have been Ginevera, shortened to Juno, which would probably work for Genevieve, too.

Other names I liked were Persis, Persephone, Beatrice, Allegra, Magdalene and Isobel.

JimmieBimmie Tue 03-Dec-13 09:11:01

Hermia

Beastofburden Tue 03-Dec-13 09:17:26

You might just want to check out the name for the associations. A lot of the frilliest names are from classical myth and the original owners may have had rather sad or gruesome stories.

Be aware that any child called Persephone will get called Percy at school...

Alexandra would be my pick.

AbiRoad Tue 03-Dec-13 09:18:10

I bizarrely know a number of Genevieves. None of the parents wanted the Gen/Jenny nicknames, so they have the following nicknames (all concidentally different) which seem to be sticking at school (although the middle 2 are just as often called by their full name)
Evie
Vivi
Ginny
Genie (which "looks" like an appropriate nn written down but obviously sounds completely different from the first syllable of the name, although still sweet).

DuPanettoneDuVinDuFromage Tue 03-Dec-13 09:40:19

I love almost all of these names!

There's another one I really like - Felicia

Spaghettinetti Tue 03-Dec-13 10:07:34

Tzipora is an alcoholic beverage..

PatriciaHolm Tue 03-Dec-13 10:17:25

Do you mean Tsipouro, Spag?

Tzipora is a biblical name (can also be spelt Zipporah, which us how it's pronounced)

17leftfeet Tue 03-Dec-13 10:35:12

I love Persephone

Couldn't persuade exdp though as we have a long surname

Littlemisstax Tue 03-Dec-13 17:06:17

I love Hermia, but possibly a bit too Midsummer Night's Dream as you've got a Lysander

CuntyBunty Tue 03-Dec-13 18:35:57

Andromache?

Love Lysander!

Think the only two Shakespeare related names not mentioned yet are Desdemona (Dessie, Dee or Mona for short) or Portia, but it might be a bit 'car' like...

Might have missed it being mentioned already - but Hermione?

girliefriend Tue 03-Dec-13 20:56:56

Aurelie

Emily

Rosemary

Evaline

Ariella

Maisy

looki Thu 05-Dec-13 09:29:26

I adore Allegra but wouldn't consider it a frilly name. Same with Theodora and many of the others listed.

I think a frilly name has go have an unnecessary long spelling such as Isabelle rather than Isabel/Isobel but that is just my own take on it.
