Londongirl84 Mon 04-Nov-13 14:38:16

Ooh these are pretty. peppa how do you pronounce Eira? Particularly love Willow out of all of these. Keep them coming! X

Eira is the welsh word for snow, which is pronounced Ay-rah, but I think it's also used in Scandinavia and they would say Eye-rah. Either way, very pretty for a winter baby.

Also like Awen, (welsh for inspiration), Erin, Seren (welsh for star), Rosanna, Fleur, Annabel, Dawn, Tabitha, Wren, and Posy.

Londongirl84 Mon 04-Nov-13 15:10:18

Ay-rah pronunciation of Eira is a particularly pretty version! Cute!
Any other delicate, pretty, non-clumsy girls names out there?

Are you likely to have a delicate girl...? If you are, for example, genetically tending towards the short and dumpy side of the size spectrum, Willow is not a particularly good choice. I"d go with something that isn't so descriptive IYSWIM.

Londongirl84 Mon 04-Nov-13 15:33:50

That's a good point about willow, although my husband and I are tall people so she might be able to pull it off but you never know and it's a hard name to live up to perhaps....

magicstars Mon 04-Nov-13 17:37:20

DH and I loved willow for a girl and Finn for a boy, but as we're both short and plump, decided best not, in case they inherited our statures wink
Sounds like your LO could carry Willow off though.
Do you like nature names?
jasmine, ivy, Cherry, Rowan,saffron, violet.

exexpat Mon 04-Nov-13 17:40:23

What if she's not delicate? I'd be very wary of names associated with a particular physical or personality type.

Londongirl84 Mon 04-Nov-13 17:40:54

I think nature names are beautiful. I'm open to any pretty feminine 'light' names... X

Lavenderhoney Mon 04-Nov-13 17:43:39

Felicity?

BlackholesAndRevelations Mon 04-Nov-13 17:44:00

Oh I love eira... If my baby is born in the car in the way to hospital whilst stuck in snow, that'd be lovely. Would it be strange to use a welsh name if not remotely welsh, though?!

Sorry op for the hijack!

Some lovely names here, but I hope you're prepared for your delicately named little girl to become a professional footballer/plumber/bond trader/stone mason/(insert other non-delicate profession here)!

BlackholesAndRevelations Mon 04-Nov-13 17:50:57

Don't think it matters if a delicately named person becomes a star rugby player or plumber........

Londongirl84 Mon 04-Nov-13 17:52:21

I'm with you on that blackholes smile

Why do you want a delicate name for a girl? Girls need to be tough and strong and not called Tinkerbel......

SoupDragon Tue 05-Nov-13 06:12:24

Girls need to be tough and strong

No they don't. Girls don't have to be anything., any more than boys do. Regardless, her name will not make her tough, strong or delicate.

IsSpringSprangedYet Tue 05-Nov-13 06:27:24

I quite like names that end in -ella:
Gabriella
Isabella
Ariella

Harriet

Jacinth
I am not sure if this is a real name, or a combo of Hyacinth and Jacinta, but I went to school with one. She was vair posh.

I agree about being wary of descriptive names. I know a large and clumsy Grace, who chose to use her middle name when she about 8, and she is (be her own admission) the least graceful person in the world!

Elodie

curlew, I don't think the op is deciding a personality for her child, merely has a preference for a certain type of name. I like elegant, classical, feminine but unusual girls name purely because they happen to be what I like. DD has such a name. She is a rugby playing, superhero adoring, tree climbing tomboy. Because that's who she is. Her name is nothing to do with that. I also like slightly poncy, effeminate, lefty boys' names. So far DS isn't any of those things. I just like the sound of certain types of names.

Soupy's right too. Girls don't need to be anything other than who they are and comfortable with it.
