Yay or Nay?

CPtart Sat 26-Oct-13 18:35:33

My favourite all time girls name ever. I had two DS.
Love it.

wigglesrock Sat 26-Oct-13 18:44:58

Yay smile Lovely name.

Locketjuice Sat 26-Oct-13 18:47:00

Personally think it sounds really common, can imagine Bianca from eastenders screaming it confused

meditrina Sat 26-Oct-13 18:51:02

Lovely, with great nn (Natasha) and so apt for Christmas.

everlong Sat 26-Oct-13 18:53:31

It's quite pretty but a bit dated. It's a sort of Samantha, Nicola, Carla type name.

I have a Charlotte and a Samuel so wanting something to fit in well with these two.

everlong Sat 26-Oct-13 19:00:07

I wouldn't put it with Charlotte and Samuel if I'm honest.
Lucy
Anna
Harriet
Martha
Isabella
Beatrice
Florence

Are names I'd put with your other dc.

cranberryorange Sat 26-Oct-13 19:04:49

I like Natalie but prefer Natalia which doesnt go with your other names.

What about Amanda, Josephine, Lucy or Joanna.

weneedtotalkaboutkettles Sat 26-Oct-13 19:25:44

I think it's nice - tiny bit "80s" but not massively so. Natasha for a nickname for Natalie though - what?! They are two different names, surely.

DumSpiroSpero Sat 26-Oct-13 20:18:48

I'm not sure it goes 100% with your other DC's names but I don't know if that matters in the long run if you love the name.

My friend has two children with quite modern/colloquial names - her third is called something quite classical and my first thought was hmm .

She's 5 now and she is who she is and the combo of names is totally irrelevant.

One of my closest friends is Natalie so I'm a bit biased!

Coupon Sat 26-Oct-13 20:46:26

Yes, I like it.

It's my dd2' middle name so obvz I like it.

She is Eliza Natalie.

scarlettsmummy2 Sat 26-Oct-13 20:49:31

Don't like it! Dated and clumpy.

night1971 Sat 26-Oct-13 20:55:15

Dreadful. Especially when pronounced minus the "t" in the middle - Naaa - a-ley.

squoosh Sat 26-Oct-13 21:00:14

I like it and pronounce it beautifully!

Far nicer than other more fashionable names such as Florence or Beatrice.

Frontdoorstep Sat 26-Oct-13 21:00:27

I have a Natalie so I like it, in case you are interested in nn's , she is nine and never called anything other than Natalie.

CremeEggThief Sat 26-Oct-13 23:07:04

I like it, but I LOVE Natalia.

Littlecherublegs Sat 26-Oct-13 23:21:05

I like it though dislike Nat which she would probably get called.
I like Natalia and Natasha too but would personally avoid for the same reason.

Clawdy Sat 26-Oct-13 23:40:56

Nice but very dated.

Tikkamasala Sun 27-Oct-13 01:23:13

I agree its a bit dated but I do really like it!

reelingintheyears Sun 27-Oct-13 01:29:05

Nathalie?

WooWooCaChoo Sun 27-Oct-13 22:02:07

This is the first time I've ever seen my name on here, I feel proud grin

Go on OP, choose it! It's not that dated is it?

I really didn't think it was dated! Not used often but still 'in there'.

I'm still 98% sure I will use it though grin

It's very beautiful, op! Natalie Wood springs first to my mind.

theignored Mon 28-Oct-13 17:10:38

in our local school there is a Natalie and a natalia. Both are beautiful imo.

CruCru Mon 28-Oct-13 17:17:02

It is nice. Where are you, will it bug you if people do pronounce it Na-a-lee?

WooWooCaChoo Mon 28-Oct-13 18:18:09

Natty is a good NN for it. I prefer it to Nat.

sidneyseagull Fri 01-Nov-13 14:10:57

I love it too! And I love Sam, so in my opinion it goes smile

SS3J Wed 06-Nov-13 14:36:31

I think it's dated in a good way! It's fairly unusual now, which is nice but not an 'old lady' name. I say go for it!

WhatTheFoxSays Wed 06-Nov-13 14:38:05

I like it. It's very similar to the name we've got picked out for our dd (due next month). We're going to call her Natalia. We were thinking about Natalie for a while though.

Lubiloo Wed 06-Nov-13 14:47:46

Natalie is a good, classic, feminine name that isn't overused. Makes a refreshing change from all the little Sophies, Ellies and Poppies. I like it!

ch1134 Sat 09-Nov-13 14:14:23

Love it. It has such a beautiful sound

Nataleejah Sat 09-Nov-13 14:52:51

Oh yes yes yes :D

funnyflowersky Sat 09-Nov-13 15:10:03

I don't think it's dated at all, lovely name.

HeyJudith Sat 09-Nov-13 15:19:01

Sounds 80s to me, sorry.

I like the "Talie" part of Natalie, but I don't like the Nat smile

Tattiesthroughthebree Sat 09-Nov-13 16:21:39

Will she be a Christmas baby? I think Natalie is one of the nicer Christmas names.

Strokethefurrywall Sat 09-Nov-13 18:58:49

I'm a Natalie, named after Natalie Wood - I agree that it's managed to weather the test of time better than some names but then I'm biased!

baggyb Sat 09-Nov-13 19:04:14

I teach a Natalie and she's a horror so it's a no from me...teaching makes it hard to find names without negative links!

BlackholesAndRevelations Sat 09-Nov-13 19:04:30

I know lots of natalies who are my age (30-something) but no little ones. It's pretty! I agree it's also a good Christmas baby name. smile

BlackholesAndRevelations Sat 09-Nov-13 19:05:40

Also, if you didn't like Nat as a nn, you could call her Tally.

TheRobberBride Sat 09-Nov-13 19:10:45

Natalie is very dated IMO. Very 80s.

I like Tally though

SatinSandals Sat 09-Nov-13 19:16:04

Depends where you live. In our area it is Na'alie and therefore one to avoid.

Spaghettinetti Sat 09-Nov-13 19:56:04

One of my best friends is called. Natalie Wood! Lol. I don't think it's dated...and anything considered dated will be in fashion again soon (think Arthur & Florence). It's a classic name and not common these days.

Spaghettinetti Sat 09-Nov-13 19:56:55

I also like the very French spelling 'Nathalie'.

abittoofat Sat 09-Nov-13 20:08:10

I know a Natalie nn Tillie.
Parents liked Tilly but not Matilda, so they went for Natalie and spell Tillie with the 'ie'. Bit tenuous, but each to their own. Gives lots of options though I suppose.

HoneyandRum Sun 10-Nov-13 07:09:08

Natalie or Natalia is a lovely name and classic enough that it is not dated (we only see that from our own generation's point of view). Remember your children will hardly ever meet a Natalie they will be drowning in Avas, Amelias, Emilys, Freyas etc. I also have a best friend who is called Natalie and she is a very intelligent, beautiful, funny and caring person so only a thumbs-up from me.

Natalie also has a cheeky, sexiness to it on a grown woman, it's not run of the mill.
