Rufus,Osbert,Caspar,Digby,Asa...

(55 Posts)

Rufus is going to have to be a middle name if used at all (previous threads, but basically someone else has used it)

Siblings are Skye and Arlo and surname is double barrelled (P e r r y - G e o r g e)

If the baby is a girl,we're pretty much settled on Flora flowers

Osbert- controversial/marmite perhaps, but gives nn's Bertie or Oz grin
Caspar
Digby
Asa

Oh,go on...just one little opinion?

bundaberg Sun 20-Oct-13 12:13:44

ASA!

<waves> yes yes Bunda I know wink

DP keeps wobbling on it though <pout>

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 20-Oct-13 12:33:26

Caspar. Asa is too similar to Arlo.

Not Osbert or Digby. Ever.

CordeliaRose Sun 20-Oct-13 12:49:26

I love Asa.
I like Caspar.
Osbert and Digby are cute.
Caspar and Asa both go well with your surname and with mn Rufus.
Tend to agree with Ali that Caspar goes better with your other DC names though.

TallulahBetty Sun 20-Oct-13 12:54:35

Never heard of Osbert!

diddl Sun 20-Oct-13 13:57:00

Like Rufus best, but Digby is fabulous.

KateCroydon Sun 20-Oct-13 14:24:13

Digby or Asa

Very glad you've gone for Rufus btw.

Sunnysummer Sun 20-Oct-13 14:56:52

Asa in first place smile, then Caspar, then a long way behind Osbert, then Digby didn't make it off the starting blocks for me!

PipkinsPal Sun 20-Oct-13 15:00:33

My sister has a cat called Casper and wasn't Digby the biggest dog in the world? Don't be cruel mummy-to-be.

LynetteScavo Sun 20-Oct-13 15:04:29

I like them all, but they are all quite different, so you'd have to see which one suited best.

I think Digby, then Caspar are my favourite.

I like Caspar the best from your list.

ReturnPlacenta Sun 20-Oct-13 16:18:37

Asa then Caspar.

<wonders how long it will be until "isn't Asa a girl's name?">

grin

Perhaps I'll get it all out the way now Return

Asa is a girls name,Digby is a dog,Casper the friendly ghost and Flora is margarine.

All hilarious.

Seems like Caspar and Asa are favourites, then Digby.

Poor Osbert... It's cool I tell you cool baby Bertie, teenage Oz... No?

sonlypuppyfat Sun 20-Oct-13 16:28:43

Sorry but they all sound like pets names to me.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

notso Sun 20-Oct-13 16:48:44

Digby definitely.

DitsyDonkey Sun 20-Oct-13 17:00:11

Love and adore Asa, Caspar and Digby in that order!

Caspar Rufus P-G

Asa Rufus P-G

Digby Asa P-G

Digby Rufus P-G

Osbert Asa P-G

Strumpetron Sun 20-Oct-13 17:49:35

I don't like any of them except Caspar, but if he's Osbert he'll probably get called Bert, do you like Bert?

Mim78 Sun 20-Oct-13 17:55:56

Dig by or Caspar seem nice to me. If you like Bertie you could just call him that? Not keen on ozbert personally.

Yes I like Bert and Bertie.

Coupon Sun 20-Oct-13 18:49:00

Caspar Rufus

My only reserve with Caspar,is the lack of nickname potential...other than Cas...there's not much to go on,and I love nn's...

CordeliaRose Sun 20-Oct-13 18:59:07

Didn't someone on your other thread suggest Boo
- presumably because of Caspar the friendly ghostgrin
- its a cute nn

grin that's good! I like it.

DaleyBump Sun 20-Oct-13 19:02:09

Caspar!

SoupDragon Sun 20-Oct-13 19:03:06

Caspar Rufus P-G

Asa Rufus P-G

From your last post, these two.

I really don't like Osbert and Digby makes be think of a hairy dog.

Rhubarbgarden Sun 20-Oct-13 20:30:23

Caspar definitely.

So Nobody likes Osbert then?

<sulks>

Rhubarbgarden Sun 20-Oct-13 23:17:16

Osbert's bad. Sorry.

bsc Sun 20-Oct-13 23:20:48

What about Osric?
Or Dickon?

CarryOnDancing Sun 20-Oct-13 23:26:04

I like Caspar from your list. I want to like Digby but just think of Sir Digby Chicken Caesar.

How about Darby?

Rhubarbgarden Sun 20-Oct-13 23:28:27

Dickon is good.

Gah.

Caspar Rufus and Asa Rufus are top ATM....Digby is cool though...

Asa Rufus has better NN potential,But is very close to Arlo I suppose.
Caspar fits without being too similar...I like it a lot but I don't love it.

I don't think I'm going to be able to decide....I'm 33 weeks already!
At least I have a decent short list.

I just desperately hope no one within close proximity uses the girls name, then I'd really be screwed...

No,I dont like any of those.

I think I have considered every name in existence.

These are the only ones that haven't been ruled out.

bsc Mon 21-Oct-13 00:07:24

Harrison
Magnus
Cosmo
Merlin
Espen
Sophus
Woody
Nestor
Kester

George? <<coughs>>

bsc Mon 21-Oct-13 00:11:30

Why can't you use Rufus as forename? It's gorgeous!

I found boys names a nightmare tbh.

Linus?
Dashiell?

Skye and Arlo are quite hipster-ish... do you not want a hipster name?

Dax erm...

Anjou Mon 21-Oct-13 03:18:01

Saw & commented on your other thread, FRIGG, and I like a lot of the names you like. Osbert doesn't do it for me personally though. Not a great sound and agree that Bert/Bertie is a much more likely nn than Oz. if you like Oz as a nn, Cosmo would work as the full name (biased!).

Digby is amazing! Have you considered Diggory? LOVE that name. DH is having none of it though.

Caspar is awesome.

Still think that if Rufus is your favourite, just use it. You chose it before your friend decided to use it too. smile

sleepingbeautiful Mon 21-Oct-13 05:01:07

Digby was in our final 5 but we chickened out. I do love it, but it is one of those names that really, really has to fit you as a family I think.
Asa is a no-no with Arlo.
Osbert, just no. If you want a Bertie but not Albert, then imo Gilbert or Lambert are better.
Caspar goes well with other DCs and is slightly unusual but not in a dodgy or eyebrow raising way.

Mindmaps Mon 21-Oct-13 05:15:13

Rufus is fantastic

sleepywombat Mon 21-Oct-13 06:11:13

Caspar is my fave out of those, followed by Asa.

Digby & Osbert are pretty horrendous to mine ears.

Think you should stick with Rufus though, I'm sure the name thieves in question really won't mind.

Perhaps not,but I mind.

bsc I've never thought of them as hipsterish,we just choose name's we like...

Perhaps Osbert is a hormonal mental moment grin

ReturnPlacenta Mon 21-Oct-13 08:40:59

I like Cosmo for Oz potential. And Gilbert for Bertie and the fabulously cool Gil.

Dashiell is fab too.

NatureAbhorsAHoover Mon 21-Oct-13 09:05:16

I actually quite like Osbert! It's unusual but it's hardly a new name. And fits very well with the current crop of WW1-era boys names, without any risk of overpopularity and there being 5 little Ozzys in his class. NNs are very cute.

<embraces Nature >

I knew it was cool!

Can't do Cosmo because of Arlo, two O endings are a bit much IMO.
I really don't like Dashiell and I'm not a massive fan of Gilbert either...

NatureAbhorsAHoover Mon 21-Oct-13 10:12:55

smile and I've always loved the cartoons of the artist Osbert Lancaster

he was cool

Rhubarbgarden Mon 21-Oct-13 10:49:17

There may well be several Ozzies in one class. It's the usual shortening for Oscar, which is very popular. I know three Ozzies short for Oscar, all under three.

I prefer the NN Bertie anyway, Oz might be cooler for an older kid, that's all.

squoosh Mon 21-Oct-13 10:58:46

Osbert - sounds like the name of a TB ridden 19th century ornithologist
Caspar - love the nickname Cass more than I love Caspar
Digby - ruddy cheeked Victorian mill owner who whips his employees
Asa - love it but not sure if it goes too well with Arlo

grin

nonmifairidere Mon 21-Oct-13 12:56:36

Asa, as in pain in the; Digby the Disney dog; Caspar the friendly ghost and a Sitwell-a-like. Hmmmmm.

CruCru Mon 21-Oct-13 13:14:38

Caspar is the best - I know one, a friend of my brothers. The friendly ghost thing won't mean anything to these kids.
