Luna or Lara

Can't decide between these two names.

Luna I worry will become very popular, trendy and date. Bit like Isla.

Lara I worry is too sensible, but it does feel more classic.

Thoughts please!!

Luna beautiful, unusual and pretty. I think it may get a little surge in popularity but because it is more out there won't go top50 anyway!

Lara.

Luna is too slebby and try-hard imo.

Luna will get nn Loony or Loo sad

Saffyz Tue 17-Sep-13 13:24:13

Lara, as nickname for Larissa.

Luna is nice but there would be too many people thinking that "lunatic" was an amusing nickname.

Or how about Lana, Louisa, Laura?

Lara.

(Or Lyra?)

roweeena Tue 17-Sep-13 13:42:46

Lara definitely

Luna just makes me think lunatic

LeoandBoosmum Tue 17-Sep-13 13:45:54

Penelope Cruz just called her daughter Luna. I think it's pretty...is it Spanish for moon? I do - in my head - automatically follow it with tic, unfortunately sad I'm not fussed on Lara because I automatically think Lara Croft. Probably not as fashionable at the moment but had you considered Laura? I think it's a very pretty, feminine name and close to Lara. Lila is nice too...I can only think of one (Kate Moss's daughter) smile

Lara, definitely.

Luna = loony or lunatic. Not a good name.

MadBusLady Tue 17-Sep-13 13:50:21

Lana is beautiful, and I think will be less used than either of the others.

tywysogesgymraeg Tue 17-Sep-13 13:53:12

Any child called Luna is going to get called "LunaTIC" at school. Go for Lara.

curmit Tue 17-Sep-13 13:56:24

I don't usually comment on baby names threads, but had to say NOOO to Luna as it sounds like it's short for Lunatic. Isla is pretty.

oohdaddypig Tue 17-Sep-13 13:59:50

I'm sure Laura must be due a comeback....

Luna will always be lunATIC to me. Lara is ok but surely is missing a "u" smile

BlackholesAndRevelations Tue 17-Sep-13 14:15:55

Definitely not loony Luna(tic)! The Harry potter character is loopy too, if I recall.... Sorry if that's harsh blush

Lara is good, as are Laura and Lana in my opinion.

AurorasShoes Tue 17-Sep-13 14:19:13

Lara

MortifiedAdams Tue 17-Sep-13 14:22:32

Lara. I have it on my list. I also like Lydia.

CornishFirstTimer22 Tue 17-Sep-13 14:25:17

Lara - classic and lovely.(VERY biased grin)

Or as a nn for Larissa (like in Dr Zhivago).

LadyBigtoes Tue 17-Sep-13 14:30:30

I think Luna is a beautiful name and meaning BUT surely you (and everyone else) would end up calling her Looney?

Lara is a bit boring though.

What about Lyra?

MrsOakenshield Tue 17-Sep-13 14:32:02

Isla is nicer than either Lara or Luna! Beautiful name.

Floggingmolly Tue 17-Sep-13 14:36:50

There is not the remotest chance that Luna will become too popular with good reason

elcranko Tue 17-Sep-13 20:46:43

I really like them both, maybe Lara just slightly more.

RoadToTuapeka Tue 17-Sep-13 23:49:42

Lunatic popped straight into my head.

Lara is lovely, as is Lana or Lyra.

pygmy Wed 18-Sep-13 07:23:50

Lara is a classic.

Luna is a celebrity 'fashion' name.

PunkyPod Wed 18-Sep-13 09:05:35

Lola or Lyra or Lorna as alternatives? I like Luna smile

NomDeClavier Wed 18-Sep-13 09:50:12

Lorna is pretty and underused.

Of your 2 I would veto Luna, pretty as it is, and choose Lara.

peachmint Wed 18-Sep-13 09:52:59

Lara. Not Luna.

runninggirl85 Wed 18-Sep-13 10:22:32

I love Lara and Luna. I think i prefer Luna but not sure now everyone has said about Lunatic.

Lana is currently my favourite name if i have a girl x

Rtfairy Wed 18-Sep-13 22:16:25

Luna is beautiful x

I love Luna, like Lara and as a half way house Lana is pretty cool!

manicinsomniac Fri 20-Sep-13 00:16:17

I love Lara. Also agree that Lana is pretty. I don't like Luna.

Lena, Lila, Lyla, Lyra, Lia, Lola and Laura could be options too?

kiwik Fri 20-Sep-13 03:54:47

I really like Luna, but wouldn't use it for fear of the LunaTIC issues in the playground.
Lara is pretty and classic.
