The list I have so far is:
Bertram
Cecil
Everard
Gilbert
Grayson
Joshua
Laurence
Miles
Sebastian
Stuart
Theodore
Timothy
Toby

I really like Grayson. The only ones DH likes are Timothy and Stuart.

Girls names I like are Cecily, Celeste, Beatrice but there isn't one I love.

Thoughts?

shiningcadence Fri 13-Sep-13 18:49:20

Ultimately it's down to what you and your dh want/like but looking at your boy's list I think Joshua seems to be very popular atm. I like Grayson too and also Sebastian but you'll get different answers from others I bet.

The girls names are lovely too. Sometimes it's worth looking at the baby and seeing what name it 'fits', if that makes sense.

DSJamesHathaway Fri 13-Sep-13 19:01:13

Do you think Grayson is a manly name? I do, but DH thinks it's a bit flouncy.

Bertram - love it
Cecil - no
Everard - erm it's okay but much prefer Edward/Edmund
Gilbert - no: sorry but I think it sounds like a joke name
Grayson - hate this, sorry
Joshua - it's okay
Laurence - love it
Miles - ok
Sebastian - like it
Stuart - hate this, sorry
Theodore - fine
Timothy - love it
Toby - fine

Love Cecily.

Clover?
Susannah?
Sylvie?
Verity?
Vivienne?
Violet?
Claudia?
Louisa?

DSJamesHathaway Fri 13-Sep-13 19:14:34

Really not a fan of Susannah or Sylvie. Both sound quite dated to me, although someone is shouting in my ear that Sylvie is really nice. Not keen on virtues as names either. Violet is a family name and I really like it but DH has vetoed.

I tried!

Esme? Elise? Gwendoline? Estelle? Florence? Elizabeth? Simone? Isolde? Ishbel? Just throwing out names at random here btw!

DSJamesHathaway Fri 13-Sep-13 19:32:21

Florence I love! Gwendoline makes me think of Enid Blyton for some reason. Esme is nice. Elise is ok but not amazing. I've seen Isolde on quite a few baby name threads - how is it pronounced?

Littlecherublegs Fri 13-Sep-13 19:49:56

Like Bertram and Grayson.

Sebastian and Theodore are lovely too though more popular if that bothers you.

First thought to add to your girls list was Florence.

How about:
Anya
Stella
Willow
Saffron
Flora
Scarlett
Clover
Rosalie
Evangeline
Merryn
Rosalind
Hermione
Harriet
Jemima
Lydia
Martha

thistlelicker Fri 13-Sep-13 19:52:08

I like Freya or Mia rose and Isabelle!

And for a boy Cameron or Logan or Liam

cece Fri 13-Sep-13 20:15:10

Larry Grayson springs to mind...

Prefer Graham and use Gray as nn

I've always liked

Verity
Wesley

DSJamesHathaway Fri 13-Sep-13 20:15:42

Anya - can't use because close family member has
Stella - not keen
Willow - not keen because of Buffy (otherwise lovely)
Saffron - not keen because of Ab Fab (otherwise lovely)
Flora - love this but DH said no
Scarlett - like but can't see us using it
Clover - not keen
Rosalie - no
Evangeline - no
Merryn - no
Rosalind - really like but wouldn't work with our surname
Hermione - like but harry potter
Harriet - like but not enough
Jemima - really like
Lydia - really like but DH vetoed sad
Martha - not keen

I need to stop watching TV and reading books don't I?

BuggedByJake Fri 13-Sep-13 20:19:36

Miles, Sebastian & Toby are my favorite. Grayson just makes me think of Grayson Perry hmm

Why are girls names so hard?!
The only one DH an I both love is Oliva but it is so over used! Lawrence is my fav, that was our boys name before we found out little one was a girl!

Karbea Sun 15-Sep-13 21:53:53

I like Joshua and Sebastian. Not keen on the others.

sleepingbeautiful Sun 15-Sep-13 21:54:14

Of your boys names I like Bertram, Sebastian, Timothy and Theodore. I really dislike Grayson. I know some v Canadian 'chav' parents who have one, and a Brittany-Leigh, so that puts me right off.
Girl suggestions:
Cecilia
Arianna
Juliana
Juliet
Matilda
Alyssa
Seren
Dorothea
Margaret
Annette
Imogen

DSJamesHathaway Tue 17-Sep-13 18:40:56

I really like Lydia, Cecilia and Arianna. Matilda is lovely but I think it's becoming very popular.

Viviennemary Tue 17-Sep-13 18:45:49

Not really keen on many of your boy's names. Stuart is Ok but a bit dated. Laurence and Gilbert are next from the list. Girls names I like Violet, Iris, Cecilia, Isabella.

I think I prefer Cecily to Cecilia

bananamummy Thu 19-Sep-13 13:23:40

I love your girls' names - Cecily, Celeste and Beatrice are all gorgeous, elegant and not overused!

I'm not that keen on your boys' names list but I do love Quentin, Clement, Calvin and Austin as suggested below.

I like Everard and Laurence. How about Corinna for a girl?

DSJamesHathaway Thu 19-Sep-13 18:33:09

Quentin always makes me think of Quentin Crisp.

bananamummy Thu 19-Sep-13 22:04:51

I don't think today's kids will know who Quentin Crisp is, but we know two little Quentins - seems to be becoming more popular.

If you like Grayson, how about Leyton?

AgathaPinchBottom Thu 19-Sep-13 22:19:28

I love your boys names (with the one exception of Stuart)
My fantasy girls names are: Lydia, Cecily, Beatrice, flora, Olivia and I also really like vita, Martha, cordelia, Georgie and Agnes or agatha.
That's probably not helpful but I was interested to see that we have quite similar tastes.

By the way am feeling bit over excited by the name Gerald for some unknown reason - just thought I'd share that with you. Though I am sure I am the only one who feels this way at this point in history.

Onesleeptillwembley Thu 19-Sep-13 22:22:53

Everard and Grayson - really gringringringringrin

DSJamesHathaway Thu 19-Sep-13 22:53:36

Agatha Olivia was my number one favourite name but as it's been top 5 for the last few years I ruled it out.

Oooh, I do like Gerald as a name. Makes me think of Gerald Durrell.

bouncingbelle Fri 20-Sep-13 00:37:15

Everard is going to get "ever hard"
Bertram is awful.
The rest are actually all really nice names. My own favourites would be Laurence, Sebastian or Stuart.

All your girls names are lovely (not helpful!)

Greensleeves Fri 20-Sep-13 00:39:59

On your list I like Toby and Cecil

I loathe Grayson, it's awful

I like androgynous names like Kerry, Kim, Rowan, Christy, Kay

kiwik Fri 20-Sep-13 05:05:16

I have a Gilbert, so obviously love that. I really like Laurence and Timothy from your list.
I prefer Beatrix to Beatrice, but am not really loving your other girls names.
