Surname is long and begins with an 'S' - I did want 'Kira Isobel Sadie' but worried it would be too much, liked the initials though wink she's due on the 11th so really need definitive 'it's great' or 'it's crap' lol thanks much smile

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 09-Sep-13 12:00:39

It's not great. Not at all.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Mon 09-Sep-13 12:03:53

Ah ok thanks. Which one, or both?

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 09-Sep-13 12:08:41

Sadie is marginally better, and it's not a made up spelling.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Mon 09-Sep-13 12:12:09

Hmm I really like Kira and its not a made up spelling, just a variation of Keira ect - I'll have to. Put more thought into it I think. Want unusual, sweet, fairly short. Took me for-ev-er to decide on that, too 'sigh' confused

KatoPotato Mon 09-Sep-13 12:14:45

Kemo Sabe. Sorry.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Mon 09-Sep-13 12:40:57

It's fine. Glad I asked for opinions before settling on it. A fresh perspective and all that

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 09-Sep-13 14:47:03

Well you're taking it well, OP. I'm fire when she's born and you see her you'll know. thanks

noodlebum Mon 09-Sep-13 15:44:22

I don't see anything wrong with the name Kira. It's pretty! And there's been people with this name since at least the early 1900's. I believe it's a Russian variant of the name?

Bowlersarm Mon 09-Sep-13 15:49:45

I'm a fan of Sadie.

A bit unsure if Kira. I wouldn't know how to pronounce it, so she would have a problem with that all her life I would imagine.

squoosh Mon 09-Sep-13 15:56:53

Kira is a legitimate name OP, Keira on the other hand isn't!

Kira is Russian in origin whereas Keira is just a mangling of the Irish Ciara.

Kira Sadie is lovely, if it's the name you love go for it.

pygmy Mon 09-Sep-13 16:03:32

I like Kira. Not so keen on Sadie

Diddle82 Mon 09-Sep-13 16:23:28

Im the oppositre pygmy, like sadie not kira

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Mon 09-Sep-13 18:28:46

Thanks for the encouraging messages.. Love Sadie but it wouldn't go as a first name with the surname hmm and also love Kira though my first name choice was Isobel which everyone liked, but. I thought wasn't unusual enough.Maybe Kira Isobel then smile

Ehhn Mon 09-Sep-13 18:32:20

Kira Isobel great. Sadie a bit meh.

WhisperingShadow Mon 09-Sep-13 18:34:04

I like Kira Isobel Sadie. I think Kira is pretty. Reminds me of Lara.

pygmy Mon 09-Sep-13 18:37:46

Kira Isobel is great smile

BackforGood Mon 09-Sep-13 18:43:45

I think she'd spend all of her life correcting people, having her name spelt wrong, and having to spell it out for people, which isn't something I'd want to put on my dc.

JumpingJackSprat Mon 09-Sep-13 18:43:47

i like kira. dont listen to spelling snobs.

ZolaBuddleia Mon 09-Sep-13 18:44:06

I love Sadie! Kira not so much, and it looks made up, even if it isn't.

I also don't like Kira Isobel because of the two vowels running into each other.

pygmy Mon 09-Sep-13 18:49:05

I disagree with PPs and think that Kira is so obviously a legitimate name. Keira looks less authentic.

BackforGood Mon 09-Sep-13 18:51:39

...but Keira the way it's "usually" spelt, here in England (can't speak for other areas), in this Century. Therefore, to spell it a different way - even if it were a 400 yr old spelling, makes it the odd one out and will not be what people 'assume'.

squoosh Mon 09-Sep-13 19:11:28

I think the pronunciation of Kira is pretty obvious.

'Keira' hurts my eyes.

PixelAteMyFace Mon 09-Sep-13 19:22:57

Not a fan of Sadie, too close to sadist !

Melfish Mon 09-Sep-13 19:32:02

I knew a girl at school called Kira, as she was nice I think the name has good connotations. I always thought that or Kiera was the usual spelling to get it pronounced Ki-ra. Keira just makes me think Kair-a. Not so keen on Sadie though.

krazipan Mon 09-Sep-13 19:34:51

My name is Keira and I have managed to get on in life!hmm

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Mon 09-Sep-13 20:00:32

Chose spelling Kira rather than Keira simply for that 'bit different' and didn't like kyra which was the other popular spelling. I didn't want to put it on her that she'll spend her whole life spelling it out until dp rightly pointed out he has to spell out his surname for everyone except family - so four extra letters won't hurt.. And he likes it now he's googled name meanings lol. Thanks for the comments and constructive criticisms, saved me making a booboo smile

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Mon 09-Sep-13 20:01:37

And it's correct that here in the uk Keira is the more common way of spelling it, just think its a lovely and still unusual name

I like it OP, Kira is a lovely name, and sadie sounds like a nice bridging name to a surname.

Mumblyboo Mon 09-Sep-13 21:12:10

Kyra? Is that better?

Keira is not necessary a mangled spelling of Ciara, it's the feminine form of Keir which is a Scottish surname (often used as a forename) and therefore a legitimate spelling too.

...and actually I like the spelling Kira - I don't know why people would struggle to pronounce it it reminds me of the juice Kia ora for some reason grin

Rhubarbgarden Mon 09-Sep-13 23:10:49

I prefer Keira. Kira looks like it should be pronounced K-eye-ra

Linnet Mon 09-Sep-13 23:22:44

Kira is a lovely name, it's Persian for light. I think Kira Isobel Sadie sounds nice.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Tue 10-Sep-13 19:48:36

Thanks ladies smile think I'll stick with Kira then and carry on fluffing about middle names until these twinges I keep getting following a mad bout of window cleaning actually result in a baby - grin

lljkk Tue 10-Sep-13 19:54:00

Sadie makes me think sadism (sorry). Kira is fine. Makes me think of the Lion King.

Suzietwo Tue 10-Sep-13 19:56:10

Sadie is lovely

Frontdoorstep Tue 10-Sep-13 19:59:43

I think they are both nice and nice together.

HappyHugs Tue 10-Sep-13 23:18:26

Just use Ciara ifyou want to avoid the KISS initials. Its the Irish version of the name and is gorgeous (no letter k in Irish alphabet).

Ragusa Wed 11-Sep-13 00:04:55

I really like Kira. Would you pronounce it with short I sound or long 'ee'sound? I also know a female Kiran ( like it a lot as a name) and a Kiwa ( Kee-wah) - NZ name, not at all sure about that one ;)

I have an unspellable name. Has not affected my life in the slightest.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Wed 11-Sep-13 16:37:11

Double e sound I think - love the idea or at least did that she would have the initials 'k.i.s.s' but then I'm a terrible mummy wink maybe some may think 'chavvy' but assure you I'm not smile going on with Kira Isobel ATM still faffing over Sadie

Just want to thank all the people who have responded envy

I think Kira is a pretty name. I quite like Sadie as well but they dont sound good together to my ear(that could just be my accent though!).

Frikadellen Wed 11-Sep-13 17:24:46

I like both and together they are pretty imo

Sadie204 Sat 14-Sep-13 21:48:06

My name in RL is Sadie and my maiden name was a longish commonly mis-spelled surname beginning with S lol!!! Used to love my initials being SS, thought it was cool hmm. Have avoided the alliterative names for my children though. I think Keira looks better than Kira, purely cos I want to sound out the 'I' as in k-eye-ra for some strange reason! Good luck though whatever you choose

P.S. I actually love the K.I.S.S initials grin

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Sat 14-Sep-13 22:57:13

Thanks Sadie grin actually been told that there were sadie's in my mums family so am going to go for it, tbh no one really ever sees middle names except on forms or when you're getting married so what the hell, if she doesn't like it there's always deed poll wink

Mutteroo Sun 15-Sep-13 00:07:37

May I ask how you are pronouncing Kira? I like it when it's ki-eye-ra but not as in Keira? Not so keen on Sadie, however its your choice & other opinions are just that.

Wishing you all the best for your baby's arrival.

Viviennemary Sun 15-Sep-13 00:43:45

I don't like Sadie very much. Kira is a bit better. Isobel. Yes that's nice.

hettienne Sun 15-Sep-13 00:54:21

I like both, and prefer them to Isobel. I would go with Ciara or Keira rather than Kira personally.
