I like Florence, Amelia and Phoebe of your list. Have you chosen a middle name?

Choccyhobnob Thu 05-Sep-13 13:32:18

I vote Phoebe, it's beautiful, shame we've already used it on our cat grin

ButteryJam Thu 05-Sep-13 13:33:02

I vote phoebe smile

ThursdayLast Thu 05-Sep-13 13:33:12

Florence or Matilda for me smile

Tiredemma Thu 05-Sep-13 13:33:45

not decided on middle name- thought we probably use one of those as middle also.

choccy- we actually love 'belle'- but used this on the dog last year!

Mintyy Thu 05-Sep-13 13:34:40

Definitely Florence.

CharlieAlphaKiloEcho Thu 05-Sep-13 13:36:05

I vote Phoebe.

But I also love Matilda too.

Great list OP

LovelyWeatherForDucks Thu 05-Sep-13 13:38:08

I'd go for Florence

mrspaddy Thu 05-Sep-13 13:39:20

Snap!! I am did Monday too... How are you getting on. I love all those names. Think Esme is beautiful. I love Amelia too.. It is very popular, but that doesn't matter either.

mrspaddy Thu 05-Sep-13 13:39:30

reggiebean Thu 05-Sep-13 13:42:17

I love Amelia. Phoebe just reminds me of Friends (though that isn't a bad thing!), Matilda of the little French girl, Esme is a fortune teller, and Florence is a Great Aunt of my DP.

absentmindeddooooodles Thu 05-Sep-13 13:44:23

Have a family member called phobes and it gets shortened to phoebes and fee. Just thought id add that.

scarletforya Thu 05-Sep-13 13:46:35

Amelia or Phoebe.

thegreylady Thu 05-Sep-13 13:47:33

I love all of them smile
in order:
Matilda [a bit popular nowadays]

LazyMonkeyButler Thu 05-Sep-13 13:48:26

From your list, I'd probably choose Amelia Florence.

Good luck & congratulations! smile

CruCru Thu 05-Sep-13 16:09:35

David Cameron has a daughter called Florence - does that put you off?

Amelia is lovely but at or near the top of the most popular girls' names.

Esme is the name of the vampire mum in Twilight.

Think I like Phoebe and Matilda best (probably Phoebe best as I don't know any).

CruCru Thu 05-Sep-13 16:11:10

Sorry, hope I don't sound too negative - they are all lovely names, just I tend to think of the disadvantages first.

Hope all goes well.

NadiaWadia Thu 05-Sep-13 16:52:12

1 Amelia
2 Matilda
3 Esme
4 Phoebe
5 Florence

Lutrine Thu 05-Sep-13 16:53:31

I like them all! Matilda is my favourite though.

Tiredemma Thu 05-Sep-13 17:15:50

Argh! Was hoping there would be a clear favourite. We have decided to pull a name out of a hat on Monday morning! Will update with outcome!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 05-Sep-13 19:38:37

Amelia Belle (dog or no dog it's a pretty name)

Phoebe Amelia

EnjoyEverySandwich Thu 05-Sep-13 19:43:24

Matilda, very regal name. Hate Tilly though, so that would put me off a bit.

mathanxiety Thu 05-Sep-13 20:32:41

sleepingbeautiful Thu 05-Sep-13 20:51:23

1) Matilda
2) Florence

Strong names with great girlie nns.

Don't like Phoebe. Feeble Phoebe. Plus does not sound good in Northern accents imo.

Amelia is lovely but currently the most popular name I think. I know of 2 plus an Amelie born this year in just a small number of baby producing acquaintances.

Esme will date to now due to Twilight.

mysteryfairy Thu 05-Sep-13 21:52:10

Stats for England 2012 here
Amelia 1st 6648
Phoebe 28th 1736
Florence 33rd 1480
Matilda 45th 1253
Esme 65th 888

They're all pretty names, hence why they are so popular I guess, and I think any of them is a lovely choice. Out of them all I would be least likely to choose Amelia due to it being by far the most popular.

My personal preference would be Matilda Florence, but I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

mrsbabookaloo Thu 05-Sep-13 21:54:27

Don't decide until she's born - you have another couple of weeks. Just have a look at her and see which one you think suits. I think once you meet her it might suddenly be much easier to decide.

noodlebum Fri 06-Sep-13 10:42:23

Florence or Esme.

1: Esme
2: Florence
3: Amelia
4: Matilda
5: Phoebe

exoticfruits Fri 06-Sep-13 18:52:58

I like them all except Esme.

mummaemma Fri 06-Sep-13 19:02:23

i vote for Esme, my daughters best friends name

mummaemma Fri 06-Sep-13 19:03:46

mrsbaboo right. we called our son charlie but after 24 hours we changed it to harry as it didnt suit him

mummaemma Fri 06-Sep-13 19:04:43

my least favourite is amelia

ouryve Fri 06-Sep-13 19:05:57

Why don't you meet your daughter first? Then the decision will be far easier.

Ihatepeas Fri 06-Sep-13 19:35:04

What a gorgeous list!
Florence- love love love hoping to use for future dd
Phoebe- great name, not sure on nicknames
Matilda- love but very popular here (sw London) dd has 3 in her music class of 12 children!!
Amelia- nice name. Most popular name in uk at the moment I think but popular for a reason.. Because its beautiful.
Esme- like but I know two Esmes with different pronunciations ES-MEE and ES-MAY. May not bother you but you may be forever correcting people..

ringaringarosy Fri 06-Sep-13 19:37:01

know its no help but they are all lovely names!

confusedofengland Fri 06-Sep-13 20:40:59

Just to say, I think they are all lovely names & we wanted Phoebe for a potential girl, until I met DS1's pre-school classmates, one of whom was called Phoebe, pronounced Phaybay (think strong Essex accent).

MichaelBubleBath Sat 07-Sep-13 00:51:08

Matilda Phoebe

pencilsharpener Sat 07-Sep-13 10:40:10

I vote for Phoebe, followed by Matilda (because I love the nn Tilly)

Personally I wouldn't go for Amelia because there are so many Amelia /Amelie / Emily / Millies around - and they are all likely to be shortened to Millie at some point.

Good Luck for Monday and hopefully when you meet your DD you will be able to see which name suits her best.

Rhubarbgarden Sat 07-Sep-13 12:13:29

They are all very 'now'. Esme is probably the best as long as it's pronounced Esmee not the dreadful Esmay.

Tiredemma Sat 07-Sep-13 12:59:50

Thanks all- had another deliberation last night (obviously have to listen to demands of DS1 (13) and DS2 (10)

Decided on Esme (pronounced Esmee) Florence.

Had some twinges today so may be here over the weekend....

Betty3boys Sat 07-Sep-13 14:04:40

I think Esme Florence sounds lovely ❤ a great choice. Hope all goes well..

Tiredemma Sat 07-Sep-13 17:48:56

CruCru Sat 07-Sep-13 23:22:01

Good luck!

lilstar Sun 08-Sep-13 10:00:07

Amelia or Phoebe.

cantchoose1 Sun 08-Sep-13 19:10:07

What a fantastic list. All lovely choices.
Take advice but make the choice yourself for your own reasons. You can't predict what will go in and out of fashion. I used to go to school with a little boy called "Harry Potter"; he was very popular as the book was published when he was 7!

Could you bare to wait until baby is born? She might just look like a Phoebe, Esme etc. Good luck!

Tiredemma Mon 09-Sep-13 14:11:20

Esme Florence born by emergency caesarean at 23.03 Saturday night.

confusedofengland Mon 09-Sep-13 14:17:12

mathanxiety Tue 10-Sep-13 15:23:59

twentyfourcarat Wed 11-Sep-13 09:56:43

gg1988 Wed 11-Sep-13 18:29:51

DSJamesHathaway Fri 13-Sep-13 20:33:24

Congratulations. I was going to choose Esme and Florence from your list smile I hope you are enjoying time with your new little girl.

SanityClause Fri 13-Sep-13 20:34:26

I wanted to call DD1 Phoebe (spelt Phebe, like in Eight Cousins) but Friends was really popular, and I worried people would think I had got the idea from shock! Horror! a television programme, so I didn't.

What a silly thing to think. No one would even think about Friends, these days.

So I lost my chance, but I think you should snap it up!

SanityClause Fri 13-Sep-13 20:35:28

Oh, whoops! Well, it's a lovely choice, anyway. But Phebe would be better.
