Clara or Cordelia

I like them both. I think for Cordelia we'd probably go with Cora as a nn. I imagine Clara might be a bit more popular at the moment but how much? Do you know children by either name? smile

DottyboutDots Wed 28-Aug-13 06:33:20

How funny. My next door neighbour went with Clara rather than Cora and doesn't regret it. They couldn't decide between the two for the last three months and it became a standing joke. Her DH preferred Cordelia but she put her foot down after the birth. Both lovely names.

DottyboutDots Wed 28-Aug-13 06:34:13

Clara does seem to be more popular now, we know 3 after never really hearing it before.

Clara

DalekInAFestiveJumper Wed 28-Aug-13 06:56:10

They're both lovely!

Yeah, I am no help.

I teach more Claras than Cordelias.

BlueStarsAtNight Wed 28-Aug-13 07:16:53

I dint know any of either name, but would imagine Clara to be more popular. I prefer Clara by a mile though.

AurorasShoes Wed 28-Aug-13 09:08:30

Cordelia is on my list - I love it!

PeriodMath Wed 28-Aug-13 14:03:42

Dalek, do you teach a lot of Claras? It wasn't even on the top 100 baby names the other week.

DorasMummy Wed 28-Aug-13 14:13:36

I know two little Cordelias but no Claras.

Clara was top of the list for DC2 until we found out he's a boy grin

They are both lovely - I'm not a fan of Cora and would probably give Cordelia the nn Deedee (or just not use a nickname at all)

PeriodMath Wed 28-Aug-13 17:28:45

Dorasmummy, I like Dora too - are you really Dora's mummy? smile

JamieandtheMagicTorch Wed 28-Aug-13 17:53:12

Clara is reasonably popular but I think it might have peaked

I know of one Cordelia

Personally (and this is just my "thing") I think Cordelia sounds rather posh

JimbosJetSet Wed 28-Aug-13 17:57:26

I know a Clara (3 years old) and her name is pronounced Clair-a. I think it might be a Northern thing??? Just so you know there is danger of mispronunciation in case that would bother you!

I've not come across any Cordelias of any age.

mikkii Wed 28-Aug-13 17:58:54

I don't know of either, but we did consider Cordelia for DD2, would have been Cordy for short.

We went with Luisa, a family name.

OldRoan Wed 28-Aug-13 18:00:22

Jimbo I know a Southern Claire-a!

I love Cordelia, and really really like Cora OP.

GreatJoanUmber Wed 28-Aug-13 18:08:40

Love Cordelia, it's on my list! Sadly DH isn't keen.

I know one 5yo Clara, but no Cordelias.

FingersCrossedLegsNot Wed 28-Aug-13 19:03:54

I love Cordelia

ImaginaryHat Wed 28-Aug-13 20:10:57

I prefer Clara, Cordelia makes me think of orange squash!

fuzzle Wed 28-Aug-13 20:14:26

Clara

or Lara

or Lea

Littlecherublegs Wed 28-Aug-13 21:23:48

Cordelia

Diddle82 Wed 28-Aug-13 21:55:34

Havent met anyone with either name but love clara. Cordelia - agree with the orange squash remark!

Saffyz Wed 28-Aug-13 22:38:39

Much prefer Clara. Cordelia is remarkably frilly.

noodlebum Thu 29-Aug-13 11:35:44

Clara is lovely :-)

everlong Thu 29-Aug-13 15:48:04

Both are really lovely.

I am not keen on Cora though so I'd say go for Clara.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Thu 29-Aug-13 17:39:40

I like both names actually.

Clara from he Nutcracker and Cordelia from The Happiest Millionaire (although she had the nn Cordi).

That wasn't very helpful, was it!

I'd probably choose Cordelia, if it were my choice.

ZeroTolerance Fri 30-Aug-13 05:27:16

Hmm...see I don't know anyone in real-life of either name.

Am thinking Clara though.

UriGeller Fri 30-Aug-13 06:23:39

I like them both! I think Cordelia wins out though.

I remember a documentary about poverty in britain ages ago with this sweet little mite called Cordy, she talked about "mi ma, brushin mi 'air" or something similar. I loved Cordelia (and especially Cordy) from that moment. Wonder what happened to her?

commsgirl Fri 30-Aug-13 10:58:43

Clara's on my list, I love it!

Yonionekanobe Fri 30-Aug-13 15:11:46

I love Cordelia and have it on list for DD2. Unfortunately I think DH may veto it. No taste.

newmumsuchfun Fri 30-Aug-13 15:16:23

I have never met either a clara or a Cordelia - but i LOVE both of them. And I think I may nick Clara if I ever have a girl (oh how i want a girl). Clara is the name of a woman from a novel and it's now bugging me which one....? I would go for Clara if I had to choose but only because Cordelia reminds me of King Lear. But I love them both.

littlemog Fri 30-Aug-13 15:39:46

Like Cora, don't like Cordelia and don't like Clara. So I am no help to you! Cordelia also has a hard time in Lear doesn't she?!

Freshlysqueezed Fri 30-Aug-13 16:45:08

Clara is a fab name

Yonionekanobe Fri 30-Aug-13 19:52:04

Yep, vetoed by DH sad. DD2 is going to be born with no name.

DalmationDots Fri 30-Aug-13 23:06:01

I love Cordelia, bit different
Can be Cordie or Delia as a nn

Moog72 Fri 30-Aug-13 23:09:14

I love Clara, does remind me of Heidi... but that is lovely memory of a childhood book.

Rhubarbgarden Fri 30-Aug-13 23:10:23

I prefer Clara. Cordelia is too long and fussy for me.

savvymoo Fri 30-Aug-13 23:22:23

Much prefer Cordelia.

Snazzyenjoyingsummer Fri 30-Aug-13 23:24:48

Cordelia.

DramaAlpaca Fri 30-Aug-13 23:38:06

I like both, but probably prefer Clara.
