It's a food.

chattychattyboomba Tue 13-Aug-13 22:57:25

Sorry can't do 3 words!
I like it. Reminds me if simple classic non fussy names like 'pearl'

Saffyz Tue 13-Aug-13 23:07:43

Food. Prefer Olivia.

carriedaway Tue 13-Aug-13 23:08:36

My great aunt

A greeny colour.

Which is not to say I don't like it

formicadinosaur Tue 13-Aug-13 23:13:06

Cranny chic, adoreable, uncommon

Runrogrogrun Tue 13-Aug-13 23:15:44

My gran. Upstanding, admired and much respected. Think Isla Fisher has an Olive. Go for it

TeddyPickleStick Tue 13-Aug-13 23:15:46

Dull boring insipid

Onesleeptillwembley Tue 13-Aug-13 23:16:58

Truly fucking awful

on the buses.

ozymandiusking Tue 13-Aug-13 23:20:19

You are joking !

monniemae Tue 13-Aug-13 23:21:23

Don't love it though I know two toddlers called it.. however watched Little Miss Sunshine again other day and remembered the ace girl in that is an Olive. Which made me dislike it less!

scrumpkin Tue 13-Aug-13 23:25:18

I love the name. If I were to have another dd she would be Olive!

smother Tue 13-Aug-13 23:25:40

Increasingly popular but lovely (sorry that was four words)

shoobidoo Tue 13-Aug-13 23:27:47

Greasy, oily, wrinkly and black!

WilmaFingerdoo Tue 13-Aug-13 23:28:48

Very very blah

Vijac Tue 13-Aug-13 23:30:52

Lovely, strong, gutsy.

MortifiedAdams Tue 13-Aug-13 23:34:57

BasilBabyEater Tue 13-Aug-13 23:39:10

On the Buses.

valiumredhead Tue 13-Aug-13 23:57:20

dontputaringonit Wed 14-Aug-13 01:08:13

I love it.

Smart, strong, woman.

Hardrockhallelujah Wed 14-Aug-13 02:44:30

I love it (but dp vetoed it for my 8 week old dd)

Popeyes wife hmm

It's also food

But nicer than Olivia

Sorry more than three grin

CoolStoryBro Wed 14-Aug-13 03:14:37

Haha! DH will be so happy! He predicted an Olive comeback 17 years ago when we considered Olivia and I said that would never happen. I won't tell him though. I do hate him being right.

Melonbreath Wed 14-Aug-13 09:19:06

It's cute. I like it

MyBoysAreFab Wed 14-Aug-13 09:20:21

I love it!

telsa Wed 14-Aug-13 13:15:58

strong, individual, quirky

I love it. And would use it, except it's awful with DP's surname Brown.

Mumblyboo Wed 14-Aug-13 13:57:44

ooh i really like all the three (and more) word associations. I do love it, DH not so sure but its the number one contender and i have a lovely, v girly middle name to put with it to 'pretty' it up....

everlong Wed 14-Aug-13 14:26:50

I like it OP!

Kezztrel Wed 14-Aug-13 15:01:54

Quirky, strong yet cute.

BurbGirl2013 Wed 14-Aug-13 16:28:11

Very cute and different (in good way)

candycoatedwaterdrops Wed 14-Aug-13 18:28:00

It's a food.

evamummy Wed 14-Aug-13 21:39:07

Oily, herby, salty olive! I'm honestly surprised that some of you find that 'cute' shock!?

evamummy Wed 14-Aug-13 21:40:01

Olivia, on the other hand, is lovely. Also sounds good in other languages, but try saying Olive in French or German smile.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Wed 14-Aug-13 21:40:52

My nan's name
Popular with hipsters

specialsubject Wed 14-Aug-13 21:42:45

David Tennant/Georgia Moffet's daughter.

I also much prefer Olivia.

LottieJenkins Wed 14-Aug-13 21:43:34

On the Buses............."Arfur Arfur!!" grin

TerrysNo2 Wed 14-Aug-13 21:44:28

Olivia is lovely

Olive is not

pussycatwillum Wed 14-Aug-13 21:48:02

My DMiL was Olive sad.

WhiteHairReally Wed 14-Aug-13 22:21:07

Ugly austerity ridden all joy And colour sucked outof life. Sorry, but you did ask. Three words were not enough.

ellesabe Thu 15-Aug-13 09:07:33

Love it- it was on my list smile

pygmy Thu 15-Aug-13 10:58:34

I used to love it but have gone off it of late. I think the overuse of Olivia and Oliver make it a bit blah.

No and no.

Not a good name for an adult either.

MrsBungle Thu 15-Aug-13 11:04:05

on the buses

DH suggested this for DD. I really dislike it, it is a very harsh, matronly, middle aged name imo.

pussycatwillum Thu 15-Aug-13 12:14:15

Never understood why, when there were so many lovely names to choose from, DMiL's parents plumped for Olive. She was a lovely lady, but it just made me think of olive green. Why would you?

Absolutely love it!

Classic, pretty, great nn options smile

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Thu 15-Aug-13 20:48:02

Ten years ago everyone was saying the same about Violet, Esme and Ada. smile

evamummy Thu 15-Aug-13 22:36:06

But a violet is a beautiful flower and colour whereas an olive is an oily, wrinkly piece if food.

everlong Thu 15-Aug-13 22:41:11

Ada is dreadful.

On the Buses.

It's a dull ploddy name and a horrid pukey colour quite apart from a foul food.

laravh Thu 15-Aug-13 23:26:34

My dads ex wife is named olive, bug has always been known as Joyce (middle name), I nearly peed my pants at their wedding when the registrar said 'Olive'!!
So it's a no from me... There's nothing pretty or feminine about it.

cafecito Thu 15-Aug-13 23:58:09

fabulous former colleague

NadiaWadia Fri 16-Aug-13 03:50:15

Small, green and belonging in a jar.

Olivia, OTOH, is lovely.

Mumblyboo Fri 16-Aug-13 17:18:47

Violet is pretty but looks v similar to violent.... I kinda thought olive would be a marmite name. Any olives out there want to give me their perspective???

Chottie Fri 16-Aug-13 19:16:12

My neighbour's new GD is called Olive

MortifiedAdams Fri 16-Aug-13 19:19:22

This thread is frustrating me grin

Ive wanted Olive for DD2 since I decide to ttc again. And the name is everywhere now, its like shit on a shoe!!

ElBombero Fri 16-Aug-13 21:28:13

Awwwwwww lurve it

Ihatepeas Fri 16-Aug-13 22:37:52

Love love love!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sat 17-Aug-13 16:00:36

Ive wanted Olive for DD2 since I decide to ttc again. And the name is everywhere now, its like shit on a shoe!!

I was exactly the same with Elodie - DM first suggested it 10 fucking years ago and it looks like everyone will have an Elodie before me! grin

In three words!

My middle name

Little miss sunshine (awesome role model)

Nature, fresh and green

I must admit I hated having olive as my middle name as a kid in the 80s and 90s, but now I see how cool it is. On the buses will only mean something to people older than me, and I'm 32. So means nothing really. Its a name with character rather than all these cutesy 'ie' names.

chilipeppers Sat 17-Aug-13 17:29:54

Are you kidding??!

Mumblyboo Sat 17-Aug-13 19:34:57

I don't think it will ever be a popular name so don't panic.... I actually wanted olive for our dd1 but graciously let dh have final say and he went for Alice... She is 3...... I got dibs on the next name!!! ;)

SleepyCatOnTheMat Sat 17-Aug-13 19:49:39

Hmmm, I'm not sure what I think of Alice and Olive as a sibset. Alice is quite popular and mainstream whereas Olive is unusual and old lady chic...either of them might end up envying the other. To make them more evenly matched what about:

Alice and Hannah
Alice and Emily (or Emma)
Alice and Elizabeth
Alice and Charlotte
Alice and Lucy
Alice and Chloe
Alice and Matilda
Alice and Rosie
Alice and Bella

MortifiedAdams Sat 17-Aug-13 20:14:48

Mum it was top twenty in the 1920s!!

Ihatepeas Sat 17-Aug-13 20:44:14

Alice and olive is fabulous!
I would of had olive for dd but dh vetoed. Sob! It's such a cool name!

Mumblyboo Sat 17-Aug-13 21:08:11

Mortified given the reaction it's had on here I'd say its safe from top 20 for the foreseeable future!! I think Alice and olive are the same sort of name... Along with Margot.... Classy but not posh, if that makes sense?

WhyMeWhyNot Sat 17-Aug-13 21:15:34

Olive was Little Miss Sunshine

Lovely character

I like the name, I'd have it in a flash

HahaHarrie Sat 17-Aug-13 23:10:33

Olives and olive green are my first thoughts, and I'm not a fan of either.

As a name it is growing on me... Alice and Olive sounds sweet together but very close to Alice & Olivia the designers. How about Alice & Clara, Alice & Agnes, Alice & Ottilie, Alice & Iris, Alice & Ava, Alice & Aurelie?

Sorry for not sounding very positive, I think I've been put off by a very contrived, smug, cloying, arty couple with an Olive.

buttercrumble Sun 18-Aug-13 09:09:55

I love it grin

sleepingbeautiful Sun 18-Aug-13 15:51:32

Frumpy awful no

SleepyCatOnTheMat Mon 19-Aug-13 16:50:13

I agree Olive is like Margot, but I don't think either is like Alice. Maybe they were once but not any more - Alice has become mainstream.

WinterCarlisle Mon 19-Aug-13 17:02:10

Weirdly, I'm called Alice and my DN is Olive grin. I wasn't keen on the name Olive when she was first born but it has grown on me since (ha ha). I do think it's becoming quite popular now, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher's daughter is also an Olive
