Stupid reasons your dp gave to veto a name. (light hearted)

Frikadellen Fri 26-Jul-13 12:34:11

I will admit this came from a comment on the Imogen Tamsin thread as it reminded me of dh when we were looking for names for our children.

He doesn't like what he says are " weak" names so for him Christopher and Alastair are "weak names"

Wouldn't consider Tristan and Sebastian as they were gay names.. (err how the F can a name be gay?)

and it was incredible for a guy who went to a all boys school the amount of girls names that were vetoed because it reminded him of a girl from when he was at school.....

I was like... hmm

Disclaimer this is considered to be lighthearted..

Obviously I had sound reasons for each of the suggestions he came up with like " No I dont like it" smile

NorbertDentressangle Fri 26-Jul-13 12:35:58

Daisy "because its a cows name".

ImNotBloody14 Fri 26-Jul-13 12:42:33

Ds1s name because it rhymes with 'gay' and he would get called gay (name) i used it anyway

Ds2s name because it rhymes with boring and sounds like orange so he would get called boring orange (name) i use it anyway grin

Nicole because his sister was bullied by a Nicole.

Except his whole family are facebook friends with this Nicole (inc him) and were happily chatting away the other day about her. hmm

NeedSomeSun142 Fri 26-Jul-13 13:09:54

Arthur - he would get called 'aarf-a-job hmm

maisy/daisy - cows name

Dexter - geeky

UriGeller Fri 26-Jul-13 13:12:44

Celia. Because it "sounds like coeliac" confused

OKnotOK Fri 26-Jul-13 14:29:10

Rowan (for a girl)...because all he could think about was Rowan Atkinson!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Fri 26-Jul-13 15:24:16

Won't say the name but a girl he (to my knowledge) never went out with but lived next door to for about 6 years when still at high school "In case anyone back home puts two + two together and thinks it odd"???!!

Alexander. Reminded him of that bloody meerkat from the insurance ads.

Vagazzled Fri 26-Jul-13 15:27:10

Layla, because she'd be referred to as 'Lay her Layla' when older hmm

MultipleMama Fri 26-Jul-13 15:36:25

Dolly, because it reminded him off the cloned sheep...
Michael, a "poncy" name...
Lee, sounds like pee...
Reed... "can he/she write as well?"...

Any so many more haha.

He wasn't gunna let me call our DD Aubrey because it reminded him of Audrey of Corrie, but I put my foot name and got my wish! Yay.

Rhubarbgarden Fri 26-Jul-13 15:37:08

Tristan because it's "too posh boy" and Harriet because it reminded him of Harriet Harman.

Oscar. Because it sounds a bit like bruscar (rubbish)
Never mind Oscar the grouch being a much more obvious connection.

I liked India for a girl - his best mate has a daughter called that apparently!! Thing is we have been together more than 10 years and I have never met this best mate, turns out is just a bloke he deals with at work who has been there for the same amount of time as him - hardly best bloody mate.

Oh and Imogen is the name of a grumpy woman at his work and it would just be weird to call his daughter the same name as her.

He sees no reason as to why we should not call our daughter Scout though!!

Nicholas knickerless
Timothy because of Timmy in South Park (! that comment gave me the angry )

Frikadellen Sat 27-Jul-13 14:53:39

Nice to see others have as bonkers dp's as I do

minniemagoo Sat 27-Jul-13 15:01:06

Molly: because he's from Dublin and everyone would think we called her after Molly Malone as in the song of a woman of easy virtuesmile

Twunk Sat 27-Jul-13 15:06:32

William because "there was a boy at school called William and he used to vomit a lot"

I vetoed George for DS2 because DS1 is Fred and I didn't want to sound like I was trying to be a Weasley!

fluffyraggies Sat 27-Jul-13 15:50:14

Marina = ''it sounds like meringue'' hmm?

Tara = ''it rhymes with your name''

Emma = ''I've known too many Emmas''

Harriette = ''no one calls their kid Harriette''

Arabella = ''it's got Arab in it''

Giselle = ''NO ONE will know how to pronounce that''

Poppy = ''I'm not going down THAT road'' confused?

Fabien = ''It sounds like someone with hairy feet ......''

fluffyraggies Sat 27-Jul-13 15:52:21

Oh, and

Harley = ''My mates brother has a dog called that''

FGS angry

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 27-Jul-13 16:29:35

My dp has veteod so many names I like. See below;

Jasper - it means wasp
Theodora - ugly as fuck
Meredith - reminds him of Meredith Kercher
Sebastian - too posh
Dexter - too surnamey
Clara - cows name
Matilda - too Germanic
Stellan - utterly ridiculous
Tamsin - knew a mad one once
Serena - as above
Noah - too Biblical
Isaac - as above.

I foresee arguments about naming any baby we have.

Ruththetooth Sat 27-Jul-13 17:15:07

Eli - there was a character on 'Last of the Summer Wine' with thick glasses called Eli
Jasper - means wasp
Arthur - too old mannish
Henry - too posh
Oscar - something to do with the film 'Short Circuit'
Esther - reminds him of Esther Rantzen

sparklekitty Sat 27-Jul-13 17:20:43

Skye because it was the name of his nans old dog.

I was worse tho, it's hard when you're a teacher.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 27-Jul-13 20:30:04

Oh also -

Hermione - I know somebody called that already.

Knowing someone called a name vetoes a shitload of names!

PistachioTruffle Sun 28-Jul-13 12:28:41

'It's the ugliest name I've ever heard in my entire life' - about the very pretty and inoffensive Clara.

Jemima - 'far too posh for the likes of us'!

This from the man who suggested naming the baby Holly if it's a girl as it will be born at Christmas confused

Waiting2wait2wait Sun 28-Jul-13 22:25:39

Clara- "it sounds like it has a full stop after it."
What on earth does that mean??

Harriet-"people might say hairy it"

Lillian- "it makes me think of lilies."
What's wrong with that? He likes lilies!

My three favourite names in the world which I have loved since I was about seven!

nosleeptilever Sun 28-Jul-13 22:34:20

Maya - because there was a famous porn star named Mia and he would always associate the twohmm . Thank heavens we had a boy!

NotYoMomma Sun 28-Jul-13 23:13:21

Gabriel - will get called Gay
Christian - It is a Gay name
Eden - will be called 'garden of'
Poppy - Will get called Popcorn
Alexandra - I just don't like it bit can't say why
Benjamin - a weak name

he suggested Kayleigh and Stephanie hmm angry

QueenOfIndecision Sun 28-Jul-13 23:15:11

DH vetoed the name 'Joel' because it reminded him of billy joel!

defineme Sun 28-Jul-13 23:18:21

Stella -'no it's a beer'- and you like it so...

Doodledumdums Sun 28-Jul-13 23:25:05

Oscar- Because it is a dogs name.

Felix- Because it is a cats name.

Any name beginning with a 'H' because all names beginning with H are too posh?!

This coming from a man who would have happily named our baby son Elvis Maverick Valentino hmm

raisah Sun 28-Jul-13 23:49:00

this is hilarious, you have all got really funny partners!

For dd:
Daria - people would think of diarrhoea
Eva - his DN is called Adam so peopl would put the two together
Selena - reminds him of semolina
Mazlina - reminds him of a Mazda car

we eventually picked a name and eventhough I wasn't 100% sure of it, it is the best name for dd.

looki Mon 29-Jul-13 00:22:27

I know somebody called that already

I get the above a lot! Its a get out clause for any name he doesn't want to discuss.

Particular names that spring to mind -

Sebastion - he knew somebody growing up called Sebastion who had 'an annoying voice'.

Alex - his sister's friend growing up would think we called the baby after her! I have to say here that we have met his sisters friend Alex once in the last five years!

Pippa - because people would think we named her after the royal family. Failed to see that Pippa Middleton isn't actually a member of the royal family!

MadameJosephine Mon 29-Jul-13 08:55:39

imnotbloody14 I can't think of anything that rhymes with boring and sounds like orange! It's driving me mad trying to figure out what name your DS has

Witt Mon 29-Jul-13 09:31:08

DH has vetoed Benedict because he would be called Bendy Dick at school. I said jokingly that we should send him to a public school then (joking because we wouldn't be able to afford it) and he said that in that case he'd be called Poor Bendy Dick.

SurroundedByGiraffes Mon 29-Jul-13 09:35:15

madamejosephine I am thinking Corin?

SurroundedByGiraffes Mon 29-Jul-13 09:37:29

DH vetoed Sam and Alfie because "they sound like middle class people trying to be working class" and Edward because it ends with d...

gatsby79 Mon 29-Jul-13 09:46:45

My husband has vetoed almost every name I have come up with because he says it's the name of a sitcom character. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of sitcoms and I can't compete with this! I actually think he's made some of them up...

chattychattyboomba Mon 29-Jul-13 09:53:25

Ashamed to say my DH also says Sebastian is a 'gay' name... And I know of at least 2 other friends dH's who separately said the same! Where are they getting that from?
He also doesn't like 'ella'bella' names as he says it will be Ella smells etc

chattychattyboomba Mon 29-Jul-13 09:58:46

Witt- ROFL at Bendydick... LOL!!!grin

TwoStepsBeyond Mon 29-Jul-13 10:00:58

Finn - because he might be fat
Tiger - ok he may have had a point with that one

..but he was prepared to call our DS Buzz or Woody for at least a week after he was born. Changed it more than once during that time and now DS wishes he was called Buzz!

SurroundedByGiraffes Mon 29-Jul-13 10:08:27

chatty Sebastian Flyte from Brideshead I am guessing.

FreedomOfTheTess Mon 29-Jul-13 12:23:21

I can't say the actual name, as it would give away our surname, but DH vetoed a name for DD1 on the basis her name (FN + SN) would be the same name as a former First Lady of the United States. While I accepted that it was an obvious association (she was one of the first First Ladies and a much loved one), it is hardly a BAD association, it isn't like our surname is Hindley and I wanted the name Myra!

Frikadellen Mon 29-Jul-13 15:43:37

Some of these are hysterical

I always thought dh thought Sebastian was a gay name due to Brideshead revisited.. (are those of you with dh's who feel this married to 40 odd year olds?)

Sebastian is my all time favourite name so I was gutted to let go of it. dd1 ended up being called Phoebe as dh had wanted that for a girl since he was 14 and that veetoed my favourite girls name (Monica)

I suspect it is why he let me have dd'2 s name as he originally said no because he felt a bit bad I never got a name I truly loved..

PinkGlove Sat 17-Aug-13 23:13:59

LOVE this thread ...

Leo - Sayer
Evan - 'We're not welsh'
Casper - A joke name
Theo - Paphitis
Theodore - a gays name confused

Hooya Sun 18-Aug-13 01:19:00

Saul - 'we're not Jewish' (so?)
Isaac - as above
Barnaby - 'just sounds a bit knobbish'
The initials HJ - 'short for hand job' (not according to anyone I have asked)
Ace - 'you are f**king kidding me right?' ok that is fair enough

AnnaKissed Sun 18-Aug-13 07:50:24

My dh won't even consider Alex because of Alex Ferguson. angry

tumbletumble Sun 18-Aug-13 07:52:41

William - apparently it's too posh

Corkle Sun 18-Aug-13 10:32:04

"Pippa - because people would think we named her after the royal family. Failed to see that Pippa Middleton isn't actually a member of the royal family!"
Looki mine said exactly the same thing!!

MrsPatMustard Sun 18-Aug-13 10:47:57

Kitty: "Because Kitty is what you'd call a 90 year old woman who stinks of cabbage and knits her own pubes..."

Apologies to parents of any Kittys out there. I think it's a lovely name...

driftwoodsands Sun 18-Aug-13 11:35:13

Fraser: We're not Scottish hmm
Isaac: We're not Jewish confused
Fergus: It reminds me of Fungus the Bogeyman... shock

SoulTrain Sun 18-Aug-13 11:41:10

Oh god. Where to start. DH was a bloody nightmare.

Isla - because she'll get called Isla White and we live near there.
Lara - because a girl that kicked him in the balls in middle school was called that.
Kitty - because his ex used to call him that snigger and hmm

I could go on.

enormouse Sun 18-Aug-13 11:50:25

Felix- Because it is a cats name
I got this too. I tried to point out that in his favourite film there's a character called feix leiter and got told that he's so cool he can get away with being called anything.

Yet he wanted to call our first child Giacamo (sp?), after Casanova. hmm
His other suggestion was Giac (pronounced Jack).
Thank God he saw reason though.

Viewofthehills Sun 18-Aug-13 16:50:50

Natasha- too Russian
Natalie- scruffy little girl with jam in her hair!?
Francesca- too posh

Sadie204 Sun 18-Aug-13 17:26:53

Lol at some of the posts on here! Fortunately my DH and I have pretty similar tastes so most names I like he does too. A few I got though were;

Max - cos its a dogs name (we used to have a neighbour with a Rottie called it)
Noah - People will sing who built the ark?
Imogen - Sounds like a poledancer confused
Dexter - Ginger scientist
Elliot - Bit 'gay' for a boy but he loves it for a girl??

This comes from a man who I let name DD1 Phoebe after the character in 'Charmed' then when we had DD2, suggested Piper after one of the other sisters lol! No chance! We're now looking for names for DC4 and has commented that it's still lovely if it's a girl hmm I do however love Paige but it's just a bit weird to have them together lol

Wishfulmakeupping Sun 18-Aug-13 18:21:26

Arthur because it reminded him of Arthur fowler
Henry for boy/Harriet for girl because surname begins with H and they'd sound like cartoon characters
Ivy, Edith, Betsy grandma names

Dh vetoed theo because its a "black" name apparently. Yes I did have words.
He vetoed every single boys name I came up with just because he didn't like it. Ds is called the one and only boys name he suggested that was sensible
He's now grumpy because I am vetoing all the crap girls names he is suggesting in this pregnancy grin

NoComet Sun 18-Aug-13 18:45:21

My DM and DSIS vetoed Esther because of Esther Ransom too.

DH vetoed Rebecca because it was his first girlfriend and DMIL didn't like her. Actually reading between the lines she had MH issues and DMIL didn't want her PFB getting hurt.

kiwik Mon 19-Aug-13 01:10:10

DH tried to veto DS3's name several times. As I almost died in childbirth, was under GA, and DS3 was rushed off to NICU, he gave him the name so that he wouldn't just be babyboySurname in his incubator. smile

sashh Mon 19-Aug-13 09:05:06

Laughing out loud at this.

If I'm bored later I might write a program where you can select a name and it will come up with

"No NM's partner says it...." ends in a 'd', is too posh, too weak etc

ccsays Mon 19-Aug-13 09:19:02

Eesh, best hope you don't have gay sons then for all those DH's so opposed to 'gay' names. confused

CoteDAzur Mon 19-Aug-13 09:22:38

Ege - You want our boy to be called Egghead at school?
Erkan - What? You want to call our child Air Con, as in air conditioning? shock

Valentina - Sounds like a porn star hmm

Minion Mon 19-Aug-13 09:53:20

Not him, but me..
He wants Allegra but it makes me think of spiders.
And sophie... Weak weak weak.

Wishfulmakeupping Mon 19-Aug-13 10:00:42

I did refuse a name because its a character in eastenders (I probably would have found other reasons though)

AngelaOxford Mon 19-Aug-13 10:03:33

I would probably veto names that don't match my children's surname AT ALL. Also, those that remind me of dog names.

I wouldn't veto names of family members or friends, or names of children from my school that were notorious for something, simply because that leaves us with NO names left!

cleoowen Mon 19-Aug-13 10:03:56

Toby, it was the name of someone I was kind of dating but not really before I met him over 10 years ago.

He also didn't like names like Sebastian because it was posh or Joel because it's too American.

mamadoc Mon 19-Aug-13 10:15:51

DH could come up with a bad celebrity association for almost any name I liked. He is the king of the veto but never came up with anything himself.examples included:
Naomi- Naomi Campbell
Esther- Esther Rantzen
Lawrence- Llewelyn bowen

DP vetoed almost every boys name going but never with a good reason just used to laugh and say no way we're using that name. Names he found hilarious included Alexander, Oliver, Noah, George (glad about that one after the royal baby), Henry. I have no idea why but his mum and brother both reacted in the same way to many of them confused

His suggestions: Sami (after Sami hypia, ex Liverpool player), but he was not willing to compromise to Samuel or Sam; or frankie, his surname begins with F and has a k in it, so it sounded like a Beano character.

God help us if we have another boy.

MrsSchadenfreude Mon 19-Aug-13 10:28:56

Martha - "It's a dog's name."

On his secret name list for DD2, he had such horrors as Drusilla (to which I said "that's a middle aged woman with dark hair, a huge chest and too much make up"). And Frederika. No. Just, no.

We got through 5 name books and took 6 weeks to name DD2. We booked the registrar as late as possible and came up with a name the night before.

commsgirl Mon 19-Aug-13 15:33:41

Arabella - 'Arry? Like 'Arry Potter

Owen - I knew an Owen once, I didn't like him.

My dad actually vetoed my name because he'd just taken on a temporary PA for two months who had the same name and he thought it'd be weird. He changed his mind when I was born, they couldn't settle on anything else and my mum gently reminded him that I'd be around for much longer than two months!

Oxtailchambermaid Mon 19-Aug-13 16:05:56

Lara = No, the tomb raider already has that name
Matilda = Well, she's not Australian is she?
Clara = No, that's a character in Back to the Future 3
Lana = sounds too Eastern European
Tilly = you're not naming our daughter after a bloody horse

picnicbasketcase Mon 19-Aug-13 16:21:57

Sean - drug dealer name
Lola - dancer with fruit on head
Anastasia - anaesthesia
Bethany - Bethlehem

Froblawd Mon 19-Aug-13 20:54:33

Ffion because it is also the name of William Hague's wife.

miffybun73 Mon 19-Aug-13 22:37:04

I think that most of these are actually very good reasons.

Some very sensible DPs out there smile especially agree with most of Alisvolatpropiis's list of reasons.

EspressoMonkey Wed 21-Aug-13 10:22:08

Whenever i suggested Saffron DH would reply "rice".

luckyclucky Wed 21-Aug-13 10:39:49

Lydia- sounds like Thalidomide confused
Toby- a dogs name
Isaac, Elijah- too biblical & Jewish & that's not a good thing with the Islamist extremists at the moment- seriously WTF??!! (By his decree Joseph wasn't too biblical- I mean its not like there's any Joseph's in the bible is there?!!) confused
Chloe- name of his cousins first wife who dumped him 2 weeks after the wedding
Jude (for a boy)- its a girls name & everyone will call him Judy

LazyMonkeyButler Wed 21-Aug-13 10:52:23

We have a few too - it's actually a wonder we managed to name 3 DCs!

Sebastian - too posh (and also gay).
Elliot - "eats paste" whatever that means. As does Louis (pronounced Loo-ee).
Christian - too religious.
Sam (for a boy) - "I went to school with a horrible girl called Sam".
Isaac - too "wet". Apparently you couldn't imagine a grown man saying "I'm off for a beer with Isaac". Like that's a reason hmm.
Levi - jeans.
Tyler - "roof, floor or walls?".

Polly - parrot or "Polly put the kettle on".
Natalie - "wrong generation".

Hawkinzy Thu 12-Sep-13 09:42:01

Hahaha some of these are absolutely hilarious grin Please let there be more?! grin

Ihatepeas Thu 12-Sep-13 10:11:02

Oo i have loads of these!!
Two that really stuck in my mind..

Benedict ..bendy dick
Edward.. Egg but no sausage!!

TravailsInHyperreality Thu 12-Sep-13 10:20:08

DP vetoed George because "it's a fat person name" hmm

Sorry, Kate! grin

TravailsInHyperreality Thu 12-Sep-13 10:22:31

(This is from a man who is usually incredibly kind, considerate and non-judgemental - he would be horrified and embarrassed that I told you lot what he'd said in the privacy of our naming discussions!)

Clandy Thu 12-Sep-13 20:20:06

Ruby- would get ruby booby.
Lydia- sounds like labia
Lola- walked like a woman, talked like a man......
Most names in the book tbh!

squoosh Thu 12-Sep-13 21:29:19

I'm with your husband Travails on George. It's a fat name, not just a name for fat people/animals (George from Rainbow) but the word itself is really podgy and obese in my mind. If that makes any sense.

ChocChaffinch Thu 12-Sep-13 21:53:37

Alice - Who the fuck is...... that annoying song
Luke - Use the force etc

He doesn't even fully 'trust' middle names ffs
also he will not consider a shortened name eg max or Charlie,
would have to be Maximillian (too Bond Villain) or Charles.

DalmationDots Thu 12-Sep-13 23:13:43

I wasn't allowed by absolute favourite name, Theadora, because it was at the time of Dora the explorer being huge. So unfair because I wanted to call her Thea everyday, Theadora just for the BC. He really broke my heart not allowing it!

Alfie was also de-voted because he said imagine a 50 year old business man called Alfie. I adore the name but that image really put me off.

TBF I am just as bad, I rejected DH's favourites, Chloe, Elise and Harriet all on the basis of people I knew or -worse- friend's children I knew who I disliked or found too naughty blush

Shodan Thu 12-Sep-13 23:20:04

Benedict - " X at work says it's a weird name" hmm

I'm afraid, in my heavily-pregnant state, I asked what 'X's real name was, and upon hearing it said icily "Oh? And with that name as reference she has the cheek to pontificate on MY choice of name?"

DH did the wise thing and kept his trap shut thereafter about what any of his colleagues might think of our name choices.

(Ds2 had the above as his middle name in the end grin )

lade Fri 13-Sep-13 00:51:29

Can't remember many specific names, but I remember DH vetoed lots of names because they were "too Irish", "too Welsh", "too American" or just plain "too foreign". So I thought of some good traditional English names and was told they were either "too boring" or "too posh".

And for every boys name I liked, if it wasn't something you'd find in a 1970s classroom then DHs stock response was that "he'll ghet bullied for that when he's older".

He told me Benedict would be called Bendy Dick, and so on...

It took a long time to name DD2!

NannyPlumForPM Fri 13-Sep-13 10:17:09

In the midst of naming dc2 (due in may) and we have had
Theo - I will always think of Theo Walcott (a footballer), but quite happy to put forward RONALDO!!!
Lexi - they will call her sexy lexi and she will get a reputation hmm
Felix - too much like the cat
Isaac/ Noah - too biblical, may as well call him JESUS
Scarlett - a friend has a child called that
Savannah - sounds like a LiON

I think I will secretly name dc on my own hmm

goldenlula Fri 13-Sep-13 23:06:21

Maisy- because it rhymes with his aunt's surname (different to our surname hmm
Alfie- 'Moon'

Several names because his mate at work had never heard of it as a name (including the name our dd now has, which is not particularly uncommon)

BlackholesAndRevelations Sun 15-Sep-13 09:13:13

Esme- sounds like gonzo.
And many more besides hmm

Frikadellen Sun 15-Sep-13 13:03:14

Grinning reading some of those..

Oh and Nanny Plum my DH says he gets the no to Theo and yes to Ronaldo So I think we better ensure our dh's never meet smile

ModeratelyObvious Sun 15-Sep-13 13:59:35

Those of you who think George is a fat name - is that from Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie?

fuzzpig Sun 15-Sep-13 14:12:23

Another one here who had jasper vetoed due to the wasp link. I'm relieved to see it mentioned though as I thought DH was making it up!

Also refused Xavier (French pronunciation) as he said people would pronounce it like the xmen character.

NannyPlumForPM Sun 15-Sep-13 21:44:18

Frikadellen- your comment has caused much uproarious behaviour by DP :p

Tweediewalker Sun 15-Sep-13 21:49:15

Florence because the nickname was flo... It reminded him of a woman's monthly :-s

Firsttimemum2012 Sun 15-Sep-13 22:00:08

Lexi - sounds like a stripper

Freya - too posh for us to use

barelyaware Mon 16-Sep-13 22:42:33

Mia - 'too exotic'
Lilian - 'too old lady'
Imogen - 'people will think of slapper who shagged Ryan Giggs'
Amber - 'porn star name'
Ella - 'rhymes with smella'
Kate - once briefly dated a Katie

peachmint Tue 17-Sep-13 20:32:43

Dying of laughter at Fabien sounding like someone with hairy feet, fluffyraggies.

Britishseamonkey Wed 18-Sep-13 10:29:02

Elsie - Elsie tanner
Walter - Walter the softie from the beano
Hannah- too boring
Jenny - too soft
Posy- sounds like a poser
Robin( boy) - just no
Sam- too dull
Chloe- sounds like a throat infection (seriously?!)
Elizabeth- too long

Aaa ah!

Britishseamonkey Wed 18-Sep-13 10:30:31

Oh and nothing ending in t like Kate as out last name starts with a T so apparently nobody will be able to get their mouths around it

Sadie- nope, he slept with a Sadie once....

Britishseamonkey Wed 18-Sep-13 10:31:18

Elsie - Elsie tanner
Walter - Walter the softie from the beano
Hannah- too boring
Jenny - too soft
Posy- sounds like a poser
Robin( boy) - just no
Sam- too dull
Chloe- sounds like a throat infection (seriously?!)
Elizabeth- too long

Aaa ah!

BikeRunSki Wed 18-Sep-13 10:34:27

I wasv newly pg (so new I didn' t realise) when dh' s GM died. When we found out we were having a girl, I suggested we call her after GM ie: Nice name with a bit of Old Lady Chic. DH said "But I only ever called her Grandma".

Luckydime Mon 23-Sep-13 16:15:29

Sorry to start up this thread again but after a particularly frustrating conversation with dp last night I need somewhere to vent! His views are:

Emmeline – sounds like Windolene
Thea – Not really a name. Just ‘The’ and ‘A’ put together by someone lazy
Eliza – An annoying Victorian woman’s name
Abigail – Sounds Australian!
Eleanor – Sounds like Lenor the fabric conditioner
Niamh – Sounds too foreign and no one will know how to pn it
Joy – A Hippy name
