Sorry for having two threads on the go.

DH and i have actually managed to pull the same face: 'hmm, maybe' about this name.

It's as close as we've got to agreeing on something!

We like Tara but it rhymes directly with my name. That would be a bit twee ...

So ... Tarina - thoughts please?

(Names we cant agree on:
me: Darcy, Tabitha + Harriett.
DH: Francesca)

Not a fan sorry, it sounds like a brand or the female version of Taurus.

What about Cara, Coral, Tia?

Like all your other listed names, except Darcey.

Love all your other names but Tarina doesn't do it for me at all, sorry.

It sounds made up iykwim?

waits for someone to say it's a classic

CorrieDale Sun 21-Jul-13 20:21:23

I instantly thought tsarina. And 'oh dear'.

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 20:28:46

Lol - i love mumsnet grin

Schmaltzing - no, mines the 'Sorry if it's been done but Darcy ..' one. I'll read that one you mentioned.

RoadToTuapeka Sun 21-Jul-13 20:30:27

Tara is lovely, really dislike Tarina. Sounds made up and makes me think of road tar.

UnrequitedSkink Sun 21-Jul-13 20:32:19

It does sound a bit like a car...or petfood!

Not keen. Marina is lovely.

TSSDNCOP Sun 21-Jul-13 20:35:31

Made up and contrived. Odd when your other names are nice.

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 20:40:32

Tarina is old Irish apparently - meaning special place or hill ........

However - you are all right, Tarina is now in the bin.

We are now bickering over Marina. We both liked it - but then DH says it reminds him of meringue (the pudding) confused and i said i'd rather spell it with an 'e' - Merina. He said no.

arrrgghhh.

painforlife Sun 21-Jul-13 20:40:36

sorry but that sounds awful, Tia sounds nice smile

UnrequitedSkink Sun 21-Jul-13 20:40:52

Ooh ooh, Carina is lovely!

Tarina sounds a bit like Cortina

Marina reminds me of Stingray <<old>>

Marina, Aqua Marina.....

DeffoBossLa Sun 21-Jul-13 20:44:13

It sounds like a name my dd would make up when playing princesses hmm

Marina is a royal name and it's top of our list for when I eventually get pregnant.

BigW Sun 21-Jul-13 20:47:24

Not for me I'm afraid. Like your other names though. I know that does not help.

What about Thea?

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 20:49:13

puppy i'm old too wink i've just referred to Bernard Cribbins reading the Arabella and Mortimer books on another thread. I don't think anyone knows what i meant grin <i'll get my coat>

We like Carina ....

give it time .... one of us will find something wrong with it!

mulling over Katrina now too.

Oh, by the way - Tarina was being pronounced sort of T'rina. Not Taaaarina.

But it's binned anyway.

Littlecherublegs Sun 21-Jul-13 20:51:28

Don't like Tarina or Marina.

How about:
Teagan
Tamsin
Tasmin
Toyah
Tonia
Marnie
Maisie
Millie
Moira
Maya

PuppyMonkey Sun 21-Jul-13 20:55:23

I love MN threads like this where op says what do you think of I dunno Maria or something. And people pop up saying they don't like it, but what about.... AnyTotallyRandomName grin

Thisisanoutrage Sun 21-Jul-13 20:56:09

Not keen on Tarina. I met a Terenia once. I quite liked her name.

Littlecherublegs Sun 21-Jul-13 21:02:08

Ooh crossed posts - I quite like Katrina.

Also thought of Stella, Catriona, Cara, Cora, Kristina, Coraline, Kirsten, Skylar, Hester, Esther, Astrid

Isn't Marina the name of the old tart on Last of the Summer Wine who was shagging Howard? please note I only watched this as a youth because we only had one TV and I had literally no vote on what we watched

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 21:06:10

little these are lovely names smile

puppy grin - ahh but it can be an inspiration. I just love opinions.

Schmaltzing - just been on that thread - Giselle! Lovely - and <whispers> DH and i just might be in agreement on this!

Littlecherublegs Sun 21-Jul-13 21:06:58

Well puppymonkey it seems like OP needs some additional name suggestions as not only has she changed her mind and mentioned a few different names on this thread, she has another name thread going too!

Seems like she needs & wants all the help she can get so I was just trying to be helpful!! smile

I have a beautiful friend called Varenka, which I thought was a very unusual name, and very pretty.

Littlecherublegs Sun 21-Jul-13 21:08:46

Oh crossed posts again!!!

fluffyraggies am happy to help!! smile

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 21:10:08

suzy - really LOL'd.

It was Marina. And yeah, we only had one telly and my mum and dad used to watch it smile

Onesleeptillwembley Sun 21-Jul-13 21:16:00

Made up and ridiculous. But hey, if you want to condemn her to a lifetime is spelling it and raised eyebrows, go right ahead.

RoadToTuapeka Sun 21-Jul-13 21:18:35

I have met one Marina, who is lovely, but I take the name too literally and always think of an actual marina with lots of boats tied up, so I don't like it as a name.

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 21:26:03

Onesleep - what, Giselle? Not made up.

Or have you not read the thread perhaps hmm

That's the last time I suggest names on these threads. My favourite name has now been rubbished sad

Onesleeptillwembley Sun 21-Jul-13 21:50:01

No, Giselle is lovely. I meant tsarina. In between reading, getting a drink and posting the thread has moved on a lot.

fluffy grin

fluffyraggies England Sun 21-Jul-13 22:00:39

Oh no! Akiss!

Loads of people have loved Marina! I was a bit stung by some of the Darcy haters at first. But, y'know, every single name will have some grotty connection if you think long enough about it. If someone told me their little girl was called Marina i would honestly think ''what a lovely and unusual name''

onesleep - It's ok. It's late and i'm hormonal smile

Onesleeptillwembley Sun 21-Jul-13 22:02:38

smile Marina is beautiful. I know two - both lovely as well.

valiumredhead Sun 21-Jul-13 22:10:14

Marina is lovelysmile

SJisontheway Sun 21-Jul-13 22:14:19

How about Triona, pronounced Tree-na. Often short for Caitriona. Although I would prefer Caitriona. Great name

hawkmcqueen Sun 21-Jul-13 22:53:42

Or Serena? Selena? Taryn? Random but sprung to mind!

Wbdn28 Sun 21-Jul-13 23:38:45

I like Tarina! Carina even better.

squoosh Mon 22-Jul-13 00:20:15

I like Marina a lot, I also like Carina even thought there is/was a Toyota model of that name.

Tarina sounds like a name Enid Blyton would give a princess who joins the Upper Fourth at Mallory Towers. Princess Tarina of Maldarovia.

sleepywombat Mon 22-Jul-13 05:49:00

I know a Terena. Think it is the feminine version of Terrence.

Don't like it however it is spelled. Sounds like a car.

QOD Mon 22-Jul-13 06:18:30

I know an adult tarina but it's pronounced trina really

painforlife Mon 22-Jul-13 09:52:04

hmmmm I think of the ones suggested "Marina" would be my fav grin

Wbdn28 Mon 22-Jul-13 11:01:54

Teresa?

fluffyraggies England Mon 22-Jul-13 14:30:59

I think i'm going to need another thread. sigh.

I'll let this and my other thread die away before i start anymore though grin

Corinna?

Merina makes me think of merino ...

WafflyVersatile Mon 22-Jul-13 15:32:09

I like Carina but as it's already been mentioned twice....
