I love the name Daisy - DH hates it so we'll never use it hmm

What names do you love that DP has vetoed?

Dillydollydaydream Sun 07-Jul-13 05:15:14

Phoebe. I wanted it for dd sad

NeedSomeSun142 Sun 07-Jul-13 05:17:18

Arthur, we settled on Archer so not much difference

sleepywombat Sun 07-Jul-13 05:55:34

Alistair, Caspar, Jasper, Toby, Thibault, Arnaud, Remy. Those are the ones I like atm which he hates but could list many more.

Anything 'forrin' or that he thinks sounds poncy.

Anjou Sun 07-Jul-13 06:03:23

God. EVERYTHING! We have 2 DS & both pregnancies were spent by me suggesting names and by DH saying "no". No suggestions of his own, mind. Helpful.

Sebastien & Hugo ("too posh")
Ezra, Caleb & Casper ("too Old Testament")
Iggy, Ziggy, Spike & Wolfie ("they're not names" - he had a point I guess)
Etienne ("we're not French")
Diggory ("not a chance")

BoyMeetsWorld Sun 07-Jul-13 08:03:24

Anjou, I feel your pain. I'm pg at the moment & DH hates all the names I love so I'm having to compromise to names I just 'like' sad

Vetoed girls names:

Vetoed boys names:

Wishfulmakeupping Sun 07-Jul-13 08:10:48

He hates Henry which is my favourite boys name ever and Arthur he vetoed.
Girls names he didn't like- Francesca, Ivy, Edith, Elsie, Betsy, Josephine all too old fashioned

NooMyx Sun 07-Jul-13 09:47:54

Linus and August.

He says any kids of ours are bound to be odd enough without names like that to burden them. Yet suggests stuff like Ohm, Watt and Volt himself... confused

isisisis Sun 07-Jul-13 09:50:44

Atticus - I love it, DH hates it. Fortunately we're having a girl so have agreed to disagree.

weebarra Sun 07-Jul-13 10:01:50

Almost all girls' names. We can't really agree at all.
I really like Astrid and Matilda but they have been vetoed.

Wishfulmakeupping Sun 07-Jul-13 10:05:23

Should have added that we did agree on a lovely name in the end that doesn't feel like a compromise

MissingMyMarbles Sun 07-Jul-13 10:05:57

Arthur is the only one that sticks out
but we never agreed on ANY boys names so the list for that would be endless. It's a good job we had girls smile

CheeseFondueRocks Sun 07-Jul-13 10:07:57

Casper, Linus, Sebastian. Matilda, Primrose, Posy. sad

teacherlikesapples Sun 07-Jul-13 10:23:20

Isisisis - we really love Atticus as well, but not brave enough to choose it.
I also really love Orson and Malachi but both have been vetoed sad

Luckily I'm not even pregnant - so we have some time to agree on names!

pygmy Sun 07-Jul-13 10:35:58

GaiusIsAnAceName Sun 07-Jul-13 11:41:42

Gaius sad

MortifiedAdams Sun 07-Jul-13 11:43:57

DH is an awkward bugger. Likes simple short names - Jess, Jane, Kate, Nell. I suggested Jack for a boy, however, and got hmm face. So I really dont know his taste.

I love Evelyn he hates it.
I love Lilian he hates it.

He fails to suggest any names though!

HotCrossPun Sun 07-Jul-13 11:48:29

All of the names I have suggested he doesn't like grin

He likes:

Ah well, at least we've got 8 months to decide!

MultipleMama Sun 07-Jul-13 12:03:06

Milo, Romanus, Remus, Ceri, Oliver, Megan, Louissa, Mae... but to name a few DH hated.

RaRaZ Sun 07-Jul-13 12:09:03

Juliet, Rosie, Rafe, Tom - I LOVE them and DP HATES them hmm

sleepingbeautiful Sun 07-Jul-13 14:43:17

We had twins and kept the genders a surprise til arrival. Agreed totally on boys names and v easily made a top 6 list we both loved.
Girls names was a nightmare. He hated pretty much everything I suggested (but not much good with suggesting alternatives): Harriet, Felicity, Lydia, Annabel, Elizabeth, Laura, Flora, Anna, Merryn, Elowen, Tamsin, Zara, Zinnia, Elise, Louisa, Juliet etc etc. It was a nightmare picking a girl list.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 07-Jul-13 16:51:15

Roxanne ("Red light").
Miranda ("Not very real world, is it").
Sophie ("Sofa").
Heidi ("Seriously?").

Sleeping - what did you have in the end??

sleepingbeautiful Sun 07-Jul-13 19:30:07

Girl/Boy - so at least there was one name we could easily choose smile

Livvylongpants Sun 07-Jul-13 19:33:32

Lyra ... Really wanted it if bump was a girl, the only name he would suggest was Rose anything else was rubbish apparently

Luckily we are having a boy so naming him Robert after my dad who meant loads to both of us. But now he is vetoing all middle names ?!

feedmewotsits Sun 07-Jul-13 19:45:50

Lara for a girl and Lawrence for a boy - both got vetoed. He suggested Jonathan - which I loathe....

We easily agreed on possible boys names but really struggled to find girls names we both liked. I suggested Imogen, Alice, Iris, Phoebe, to name only a few, and DH said no to them all.

luckyclucky Sun 07-Jul-13 23:30:38

He vetoed Chloe, Lydia & Cordelia,
any 1 syllable names ending in -eth (sounds like someone is lisping apparently)
& lots of boys names which were 'too biblical' but then suggested Joseph FFS confused

Its a miracle we found any common ground at all!

angusandelspethsthistlewhistle Mon 08-Jul-13 01:18:57

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Tamar and Nora were both rejected absolutely by DP. I've vetoed Ezekiel. We have 20 weeks to agree a middle name for baby. Not finding out sex so two names to disagree on.

rundontwalk Mon 08-Jul-13 04:51:29

Monty ('too posh'), Felix ('the cat'), Asa ('advertising Standards Agency/computer spelt wrong). I'm sure there were many more!

Gethin or Bryn, and Iris (apparently too "old lady" but then he suggested Martha?!)

MolotovCocktail Mon 08-Jul-13 10:22:25

DH vetoed Mia for dd1. Although I love the name we gave her, I do get a little 'pang' whenever I hear Mia mentioned.

We dot have any sons but when thinking of names when I was pg, I suggested Sebastian for a boy. My usually rather liberal and open-minded DH cast that aside for being "too gay" confused

MultipleMama Mon 08-Jul-13 10:25:35

We had twins too. ID boys so picking their names were easy. I find out on 21st what gender set I'm having this time. Hate choosing girl name. I no longer like the names we chose. Typical.

Exhaustipated Mon 08-Jul-13 10:28:20

DH is very open minded about girls names, not so much with boys names... Hence we have a girl with v unusual name, and a boy with a very popular name. Love both though smile

Boys names he vetoed include:

Charingcrossbun Mon 08-Jul-13 10:34:38

I think I'm going to be the other way around. As a teacher I can think of an 'orrible child to go with most names and so am screwing my face up at his perfectly sensible suggestions. He likes Genvieve - beautiful name but I'm dyslexic, what is baby is too? Seems cruel! (Am only 6 weeks pregnant so plenty of time to worry and argue!)

CruCru Mon 08-Jul-13 15:37:37

Pretty much all girls' names ending in a, Miriam, Hannah.

Atticus, Francis, Hugh, Johannes, Josiah, Lysander, Milo, Oscar, Sebastian.
