What do you think of these names? Lucas is DP's suggestion, Theo is mine. Which do you prefer? If neither any suggestions please? Thanks smile smile

Theo -definitely- it's my son's name

Rtfairy Sun 16-Jun-13 15:34:35

Is Theo footbally? Wouldn't know as hate football and DP doesn't follow it either

only because of Theo Walcott..my ds was named 16 years ago

Slightly prefer Lucas.
Like Luke even better.

jaggythistle Sun 16-Jun-13 20:21:14

Lucas. (sorry! )

Rtfairy Sun 16-Jun-13 21:41:32

Looks like Lucas is the overall favourite. I do like it but just started thinking about Theo recently. Wouldn't be short for Theodore would just be Theo on bc. Luca is also very nice but sounds Italian to me and I am not.

Cambridgechick Sun 16-Jun-13 21:48:11

Lucas is great, I have come across a few Theo's at school but no Lucas's. I'm also a believer in giving children full names, not shortened ones because it gives them the option of using a more 'formal' name at work, if they want to.

bugsybill Sun 16-Jun-13 22:34:40

Both are nice. Make you decision based on how it goes with your middle name and surname.

kanx1976 Sun 16-Jun-13 22:47:22

Lucas is a good portuguese / brazilian name... Theo is also a great name.

Barbarashop Sun 16-Jun-13 22:50:09

I have a Lucas and a Theo! Even though I chose Lucas first, I actually prefer Theo.

feckawwf Sun 16-Jun-13 22:52:50

Love them both but prefer Lucas. Or you could go for a bit of both and have Leo-my ds name wink

Nimthenamechanger Sun 16-Jun-13 22:55:24

I like Lucas more than Theo as Theo does sound like a little bit nicknamey. However, if you're bothered about teasing potential, a Lucas I know would probably want me to point out that his name rhymes with mucousconfused
Lucian or Lucius?

rootypig Sun 16-Jun-13 22:56:00

Ha, I know 8mo twins called this. No help, just wanted to chip in smile

LittleDonkeyKong Sun 16-Jun-13 23:03:16

My top 2 names if I ever have a DS I prefer Lucas but only slightly smile

Ham69 Mon 17-Jun-13 07:22:40

Theo <biased>. I think it sounds perfectly formal on its own and never thought of it as 'nicknamey', 'faddy', 'footbally', etc. Theo Paphitis seems to have done ok and been taken seriously enough. And it was Vincent Van Gogh's brother's name (he chose to be called this though I think his name was Theodorus).

massagegirl Mon 17-Jun-13 07:29:53

Theo. not footbally at all, there's one footballer called this I can think of. Lovely name. Full name in its own right, strong and classic.

squashedbanana Mon 17-Jun-13 07:47:29

sorry, can't stand Lucas, it whenever I see it or hear it all I can think of is mucous

yep, Theo is a full name in it's own right, agree there. My Theo used to go to La Jolie Ronde where the teacher would pronounce it the French way, which was very sweet.

Rtfairy Sat 22-Jun-13 10:32:47

Thanks for all your comments. Think we have decided on Lucas with Theo as a middle name. As much as I love Theo my main concern would be people pronouncing it incorrectly as 'Feo'.

shockers Sat 22-Jun-13 10:36:24

Not keen on Lucas, but love Theo.

I wouldn't have linked it with football at all, despite the fact that I am forced to endure the game by the menfolk of my family.

shockers Sat 22-Jun-13 10:37:21

Sorry... I've just seen that you've chosen Lucas blush.

AmIGoingMad Sat 22-Jun-13 14:26:15

Good choice rt!smile

Sanjifair Sat 22-Jun-13 14:35:56

I like both, they are both on my list. I think I prefer Lucas with Luke for short.

5madthings Sat 22-Jun-13 14:40:31

They are both lovely my ds1 is theo(dore) and my ds3 has lucas as his middle name smile

KLou1105 Wed 26-Jun-13 22:23:14

Lucas

NowPlayingZone Wed 26-Jun-13 22:41:47

Both nice.
Lucas has a bit more staying power, think you made right decision!

MollyBerry Wed 26-Jun-13 22:43:22

Both are nice but good choice using both smile

FetaCheeny Wed 26-Jun-13 23:49:04

Much prefer Theo, dislike Lucas.

I love Theo!

OrangeKittens Thu 27-Jun-13 10:30:17

Theo! (Another biased poster. Mine is a Theodore though.) It's an awesome name. I think it's going to rise even further up the charts though, akin to Leo. Lucas is really popular at the moment as well. Both lovely names.

And DH and I despise football.
